Sack Flanno….

Feel like cheika would be a good risk to take for a head coach role. He doesn't have baggage from previous nrl gigs, he's been learning in a good system but has big club/country experience & could probably deal with our club politics. He's a rookie nrl coach but experienced in the world stage.

I don't know if the selfish people at our club would allow him to be selected, as he would probably challenge them too much.

Main thing is he would bring a complete fresh view on our players & hopefully game style. I assume he would've had experience with Ando at the chooks too.

He definitely gets my vote.

I go with this guy. Talau one assistant, I think attacking coach. Maybe Dean Young stays on as defence coach. Or I don't know.

That’s certainly one from left field, Dave. He’d need a very experienced and successful assistant alongside him, perhaps Nathan Brown, but the club could do far worse. I’d be comfortable with either Cheika or with Brad Arthur.

It sounds like a loss to manly, particularly a dire one where we don’t look competitive And that should be that for old mate, if it’s not then it’s after a heavy defeat to Souths or roosters

This limbo struggling clubs/coaches get in when it’s so obvious the coaching position is untenable is always funny

So a win against manly keeps him alive for a week but a heavy defeat the week after is the breaking point? So pointless

My feelings exactly. What are they waiting for? I simply can't believe anyone believes Flanno can turn it around from here.

If I was Tim Watsford and picking the coach, I would like to spend a few hours talking football to each prospective coach ask them which players they would want to target and then pick the one who I thought had the best ideas and perspective. I doubt that would be the way the selection is done. Usually the board and CEO decide who they want, based off whatever criteria they use and then make a play for that coach.

The ones I would like us to get as coach are Bellamy, Cleary or Webster. If that even meant waiting until 2028, I would rather wait for the one I want, than get one who is available in the mean time. Bruce Gordon and the St George board should open the cheque book and offer those 3 coaches massive contracts to try and entice them and also tell them they get whoever they want as assistants, recruitment and pathways manager, all the resources they want and complete control of who they want to recruit. I would also give them 4 or 5 year contracts.

Flanno spoke of putting in a "pathways" program that wasn't in place when he took over. Hopefully that will pay dividends and reap rewards in the future.

The previous coaches were going just as badly, but they would get the odd win that would keep the tiny spark of hope (plus the strong preference for the board to keep doing nothing) alive.

But this run of straight losses is insane.. and has forced our hand in a big way.. unfortunately ur right though if we do get a win it will delay things, hopefully not cause them to do anything silly like let him continue beyond the coming weeks....

But.. it might also be a case of the club needing some time to find an interim and get their ducks in a row.. the bye week may have some merit.. i dont know if axeing Shane will buy us any more wins in the short-term, plus Shane will be a big hole to plug when hes gone.. and thats not even considering the financial costs to sack him.. but I do feel like there will be a breath of fresh air once hes gone and we can have honest conversations and get a breath of fresh air in the place again.

If we jagged that win against the Gold Coast they probably would have extended him for another 2 years.

I would get Cleary, Bellamy or Webster as well. I'd also get Cleary jnr to play halfback and Haas to play prop. I'd get Farworth and McClean to play left and right centre. Wingers would be Coats and Bostock. Fullback would have to be Reece Walsh.

Then I'd stop deluding myself and look for practical solutions.
