Tariq Sims could be on the move in the next week.

I read that. I can't quite believe it's true. Who is the club going to recruit or promote to the top 30 in his place?![]()

Bennett seemingly has a habit of disrespecting his old clubs. Apparently he slammed Newcastle in negotiations with Ponga. I really don't care if it's true or not but was surprised by Bennetts arrogance in blurting it out to the captain of the team. I don't perfectly remember what happened in the lead up to that game but I know some Saints supporters were commenting on the lack of respect. That lack of respect has come back to bite him at least twice now.St George Illawarra Dragons star in line for shock immediate switch
DRAGONS STAR SET FOR SHOCK SWITCH TO STORM IMMEDIATELY
Dragons forward Tariq Sims has reportedly signed a deal with the Storm for 2023, but the clubs are in negotiations for an immediate release. Channel 9’s Danny Weidler reported Sims has signed a contract to join the Storm next season, but the Storm and the Dragons are in talks to make the move happen as early as this week.
“Melbourne want Tariq Sims to be playing for them now,” Weidler said. “They want him to boost their team now, and I think that could actually happen. “There are talks underway between Sims and the Dragons and Melbourne to make Tariq Sims (move) in 2022, which would be a fantastic result for the Storm... not so much the Dragons who I think will miss his extreme strength and utility value.”
The sticking point in an immediate move to the Storm is Sims’ $800,000 contract for 2022, with the Dragons expected to have to pay a large chunk of that sum to fit the second-rower in the Storm’s salary cap for the rest of the season. Sims was devastated to learn last year that the he was not in the Dragons’ future plans and was free to negotiate with rivals, despite having a contract for 2022.
Sims eventually agreed to play out his contract with the Dragons, but has found himself in and out of the side to start the season. The 32-year-old has scored 43 tries in 209 NRL games for the Cowboys, Knights, and Dragons since his NRL debut in 2011 and has played five Origins for NSW and five Tests for Fiji.
I'd still be surprised if it happened this year but if it did, my best memory of him would be in the preliminary final against Brisbane in Brisbane. Broncos had an easy last game and were playing after the Dragons. Bennett set up the for and against in the last game specifically so he could play Dragons. Dragons gave them a good-ol-fashioned shellacking. Sims score a hat-trick in the first half, had a blinder, sledged Broncos players late in the game when the loss was assured and they become super aggressive and it turned out to be Bennett's last game coaching Brisbane.
I don't remember perfectly either but pretty sure there was a range in which the Broncos had to win their last game by and they were playing a basket case team, last game in the last round. Can't remember which team but Bullgrubs are a basket case every second year so they are a safe bet. Broncos had to win within a certain range to play the Dragons in week 1 of the finals. Something like more than 20 but less than 30. They were something like 28 points ahead with 30min to go but didn't score a single point after that. And didn't let the opposition score either.Bennett seemingly has a habit of disrespecting his old clubs. Apparently he slammed Newcastle in negotiations with Ponga. By all reports, he's been kicking stones around the club because the club doesn't want to re-sign a backrower who'll be 33 at the start of next season in what is already the oldest pack in the competition by some distance. If Melbourne are picking up a significant part of his remaining salary, better to let him go.St George Illawarra Dragons star in line for shock immediate switch

Sounds like the right thing to do IMO as well but need a replacement in the top 30. If Griffin has Gerald Beale or any of his other U20s winning Broncos of 15 years ago lined up, forget it! Keep Sims.By all reports, he's been kicking stones around the club because the club doesn't want to re-sign a backrower who'll be 33 at the start of next season in what is already the oldest pack in the competition by some distance. Let's say he has 550k left. Wouldn't it be worth paying 150k of that, adding a clause that he can't play against St George and then having 400k for someone else? Because he's playing like someone who is getting paid less than 400k for 3/4 of a season. If he were on the market right now, doubtful he could get 250k for the remainder of this season. Could probably get that if signed before round 1.Maybe the question should be how much the club is willing to pay from his salary. He's probably already had about 1/3 paid. I don't think the club should pay a cent more. If Melbourne wants to pay the remainder of his salary for this year, good luck to him and them. But if they think the Dragons are going to pay him anything to play for Melbourne, forget it.
When you put it like that, maybe paying 150k of his salary would be worth it.Let's say he has 550k left. That a nice idea. I love it but who is going to take Sims place in the top 30???When you put it like that, maybe paying 150k of his salary would be worth it.
Paul McGregor wanted to be friends with certain players ahead of being coach of a successful team. Or so it seems. 800k for Sims is a black comedy.Believe it or not he is on $800,000 this year and has officially signed with Storm for 2023.
No wonder he (Baldy McGregor) was apparently so popular among senior players. If Sims played near his best every week, he would have been worth around 650 max.Paul McGregor wanted to be friends with certain players ahead of being coach of a successful team. YesI guess this means he is staying for the rest of the year.
No room under the salary capThe club is saying Melbourne haven't asked about Sims coming this year. I presume they don't feel they need him this year. So there it is. If he doesn't do a little better for the Dragons, he may need a spell in the NSW Cup.
When he is on 800k a year at the Dragons, I'm surprised we have any room under the cap to keep him.No room under the salary cap
