Round 5 v Eels - 3pm

What can we even say after a performance like that?

Really worrying in all honesty, the defensive structures looks terrible and we barely make 30 metres a set. We’ve lost the yardage battle in every game and my god the halves are an actual joke, watching them try and play off the cuff or do anything that hasn’t been practiced during ballwork is an absolute eye sore.

Id drop Sloan, Lawrie and Illias but sadly I can’t see Illias being dropped due to politics despite costing us the Iongi try and the kick out on the full they won the game off.

Going to be a long year by the looks of it lads, cross your fingers Atkinson + the kids coming through kick on and by a miracle we can convince a star player or 2 to join the club next year and maybe they can make the fans proud for a change

Every competitive top 8 team has a decent game manager. I watched our halves when we were 12 up but they don't seem to have that managing a game in their repertoire and especially Flanagan will never achieve that. So we rely on illias and today that pressure on him told, his kick out on the full led to the field goal. I always told my play maker your on the field, you have the feel of the game but its not necessary to kick towards the touchline everytime, looks for the grass, turn them around, make them cart the ball 80 yards up field if they are good enough and fit enough at the end of the 80, make them win it not us give it. I've watched every game of the ressies in the last 2 seasons and the halves are just starting to gel now but neither is ready for the rigours of 1st grade in my view

Wtf is the point of picking sloan, knowing he'll be a liability on yardage & then not utilising his speed through middle as a support player? Fkn dumb cunts everywhere. Why the f*ck pick Lawrie to only play him 19mins? & then bring on Liddle for 30mins. Dumb coaching, dumb strategy.

Liddle wasn't giving any indication he was struggling with fitness while he was on. Could have at least played 40.

Spot on. Yea that pressure in the last 30min in particular really showed, summed up by that kick. Sloan may have lost his spot and Lawrie I think has had his chances, doesnt achieve anything. Interesting to see what adjustments are made, very dissapointing.

Not much change if any after hearing the Presser .......

I hate to say I told you so but I said after the Storm win the next game against a winless Eels had danger written all over it. Who would want to be a 1sts coach.? Last week we had nothing to lose, this week they had nothing to lose, and achieved the same result.

So we rely on illias and once again today that pressure on him told. His kick out on the full led to the winning field goal. I feel for him but any mistake in golden point can change the flow of a game and the result.

Today was a carbon copy of the loss to Souths and confidence will now be low again especially in our halves. Everyone makes mistakes, the measure is if you have learnt from those mistakes, alas it would appear our play makers didnt today.

In saying that only 2 forwards managed to run the required 100m and you just can't be winning games with those stats.

In situations like this you can as a coach do two things, especially when history has repeated itself, you either stick or think outside the box. It will be interesting to see what the coach decides. I believe he will stick.

Next week is a must win at home game against the Titans. I believe we can bounce back but we have to have to start playing consistently if we are any chance of playing semi finals football this season.

I seen this coming a mile off , if we don't bounce back as you say next week it's all over ........ Roger Roger over and out ......

You still think we are a chance of playing semis this year? I never knew you to be so optimistic. There is a chance if a few more players in the lower grades can step up in a big way in first grade. And if Flanno doesn't stick with the same team.

No way we play finals, I like to think I’m an optimist but realistically we don’t have a star forward pack to carry the shit halves. 12th-15th place finish and a real hard look at why the roster got to this position it’s in and why we aren’t attracting star players like Terrell May who would have been a phenomenal signing

Season is not dictated in the 1st 5 rounds. If by round 12 we haven't found consistency then I will re evaluate but this current competition is wide open at the moment

Have faith yes at the moment it's up and down . I liked the go forward and enthusiasm of our young bench players Stewart/ Egan showed, except poor Lawrie who to be honest should not pull on a 1st jersey again, loyalty has its bounds. It's easy to be critical of your halves but our pack failed to go forward. I have said consistently that in my experience to be competitive 3 forwards must run that 100m , only 2 did today so that didn't help

So

Hes not running around on the field, it's the players that are failing to do their individual jobs
But they did exactly the same thing against Souths ! Tried to defend a lead instead of going on with it for an easy win ! They tried hard but you need to be more than just battlers. If they are not going to get Sloane into open air he is a liability. Illias’ kicking game sucks ! They also wasted their captain’s challenge.

Carbon copy of the loss to Souths. It would be disappointing to the coach that the player makers especially failed to learn their lessons

I’m more concerned about the defensive systems than anything else, the systems of the top teams are so elite that when there’s 2-3 changes to a lineup it’s almost seamless and there’s no real drop in quality.

Our system in defence is woeful, they wait at the defensive line instead of pushing up and then when the other teams let the ball sing the retreating defence lets them make 20-30 metres minimum. No wonder parramatta made 70-80m a set in that second half when they spread the ball.

We know the rosters not quite there yet but I expect more from a coaching perspective.
Not baying for Flanno’s head or anything but it’s a big concern for most people I’m sure.

Wrote this in another forum, when was the last time a player ran 90m to score to turn a game for us ? Every try they score is structured and has to be in the opposition 30m .......... So if our forwards don't get over the advantage line we got nothing ....... Also no 6 & 7 in attack ....... Lacking a fast player like Walsh the Hammer that can turn a game for us when things are not going our way ....... Just my thoughts ......
