Round 15 v Sharks

They lack killer instinct. Our players don't go for the jugular. They play one good half and then for some reason they change tack and drift rather than charge at full pelt until full-time. Yes a couple of games they have been good but they just cannot maintain consistency and that really needs to be addressed by someone who knows how to coach!!.

Once the Sharks were rolling over the Dragons in the second half I turned off because there just wasn't any fight and resilience shown by our players - no-one seemed to have a clue.

Another loss to the Sharks. When will we beat them again - maybe never?
You have to have a killer instinct to get to the top and win a premiership. Not try to win a game by sitting on your hands and kicking into corners. Twelve points up and what ? Chance you arm, play some football, have some fun. We lost anyway, so what do we have to lose ?

When Flanno has surgery to remove whatever is struck up his arse we might actually win some games…

We havent had that killer instinct since Bennett left, we just roll over like dogs waiting for a belly rub, until we get some hard arses in there thats the way its going to be, and I hope our juniors do follow that mindset.

Just watched the replay..
Our poor marker defense which gave them the momentum to dominate the field and put us constantly on the back foot was our major negative in the second 40. How many times did Brailey and co just waltz thru our line. But what about our errors that handed them a brace of tries, the mix up by Gutherson and Sloan going for the same bomb, poor defense by Suli and Lawson on Katoa, a sloppy spill by Lawson and a shocker drop out by Gutho.

Rudderless again in the halves. How many times did Flanagan pass the ball to the slow poke and well covered Klemmer when an eager back line was waiting for the pill. And why is our half continuing to favor one side while the other is starved. For example how many times did Nick T touch the ball in general play compared to Suli who is slow and a liability in defense. Needs to be moved out of the backs. Nick T had a strong debut, specially in defense. But for mine he is a back rower.

Good summation. I was just asked on another forum being an old coach how would I get this team to play better.

In my opinion the coach has squeezed every bit of talent and effort out of this playing group. They are trying but their best at the moment is not good enough for semi finals football this season again.

We need an alpha male bookend, we need an enforcer in the engine room and importantly we need a genuine 7 guiding the team around the park.

There will of course be a review of the team and coaching staff at season end and it is there and then some tough decisions need to be made.

The future looks bright but these kids need good experienced players to pass on their knowledge and tricks of the trade to learn their trades. They can't be rushed or used as stop gap band aid solutions to our current issues. They must be given the best opportunities to shine on the field whilst wearing the big red V.

More offloads - we've got the players like jdb, guler, klem
Agree second phase is something we sadly lack and it is so important to gain momentum. Other than Toby C it is not a natural play for most of our other grunt forwards, specially Klemmer. Tho I did see Guler offload once yesterday. Jack can offload but reckon his kamikaze raids into the line do sufficient damage plus his sharp work as a receiver almost always sparks our attack. When he matures LPT will be a good exponent of second phase play.

There's a lot I could say about the game and players, but I'll keep it positive.

The Bull was impressive and very solid. Didn't look like he was thrown in the deep end, didn't get caught out, just did his job, played hard gave 100%.
Well said. 20 year old on debut playing centre and did bloody well in my eyes. Nick can hold his head high, carted the ball up all game making 162 m, wasn’t intimidated and made 20 tackles missing only 2. Pretty solid debut and didn’t look out of place at all. Well done, hope Flanno finds a place for him in the 17 moving forward

I do agree his positional play took into consideration his lack of genuine speed last night . 64m p.c. is impressive 2 tackle busts. Imagine him in the backrow in the future with the Couchmans, Egan, Stewart and LPT. Goodness thats going to be a mobile pack that will be feared moving into 26/27.

Sometimes should call a spade a spade. Like I do😇. Just my views. The Bull, Mr Tsougranis, was excellent. Will be even better in the forwards.I didn't know his nickname was The Bull but easy to guess.
Had prob his best game of the season topped off by terrific aerial work. Lawson was poor. Finau for him please.
Sir, Mr. Tyrell Sloan had his worst game yet. His game is continuing to go backwards. I think he's played his last NRL game.

We need to talk about Mr. Clinton Gutherson. I said in the off season he's a good player but absolutely not what our slow backline and old team needs. I was absolutely slammed for it. So now I can see.............. he's a good player but not what our slow backline needs. Is he the slowest fullback in the competition? Slowest by far?

So what is the solution? What are the strengths of Mr. Gutherson? Excellent communication, pretty good tackler, good hands and ball skills, can break a tackle. Weaknesses of Mr. Gutherson are his age and the fact he's too slow to be a good fullback. The solution is very obvious. Do a Mr. Ben Hornby. Mr. Gutherson is even better suited to play halfback than Mr. Hornby was. Mr. King-Togia is also similar to Mr Soward. Not as good kicker but maybe better running game.

I feel your pain, Dragon David. I believe the effort was there (first half anyway), but they just lack the skill necessary to be a contender for the semifinals. We have some good youngsters coming through and two class senior players in Holmes and Su'A, and a good leader in Gutho. However, until we can recruit a few more representative quality players we are just going to have to rely on Coach Flanno motivating the team to produce an eighty-minute super effort, which will generally be followed by a wipeout in the next game.

With respect sir his worst game was the week before and he was dropped for it and deservedly so. But for mine he made the most of his reprieve. Was more involved tho ball rarely went his side, handled his own defense well, I recall a snorter of a ball and aller. Took it up strongly and as I already said was good airily. Not his fault nor Gutherson over that spilt bomb which gifted them a six pointer, simply lack of communication, neither called, but not easy to act quickly in heat of the moment.

Because we have no one to take charge at vital stages DD.

Nail on the head. Dean Young said just after he came here that we need to give our best to the final whistle. Never throw in the towel. We have done the opposite far too many times over the past 5 yrs having these two coaches.
