Flanno is at it again. What are Dean Young and Ryan Carr doing? They have to confront Flanno and let him know his love for his only son has blinded him to reality and it's either Kyle gets dropped or Flanno gets sacked then Kyle gets dropped.

Shane Flanagan slams nepotism suggestions, puts critics of son Kyle in their place

St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan has slammed suggestions of nepotism around his son Kyle after two heavy defeats for the Dragons. Saints fans went into meltdown over the weekend after the club’s second-half capitulation against the Cronulla Sharks on the back of 56-6 loss to the Dolphins.
Most of it was aimed at his son Kyle rather than a number of his teammates who have also been struggling in recent weeks. “To say Kyle is under pressure is ridiculous,” Flanagan said. “I think people are looking in the wrong direction.
“He’s been among our best players all year. It’s not me, ask the other players and coaches. I’m probably harder on Kyle than any other player.”

So Flanno thinks we should ask rival coaches and players for their honest opinion. He's completely lost the plot!!!
I would call being under pressure getting caught with the ball on the last tackle several times and numerous wrong options in attack. But no pressure there right ?

Apart from Kyle, and I just hope Flanno doesn't drop LKT, there is also the issue with the wingers and there is also the prop situation. Prop should be easy. Su'A comes back and Couchman moves to prop and Gular drops out, and I just hope LPT isn't dropped. Winger is much more pressing. I think Flanno has no choice but to recall Finau but then he'll look like an idiot if Finau plays well.

I was critical of his inability to control the game when Ramien went off, and then caught twice on the last ball in hand going to ground inside their red zone. Was he playing to the coaches instructions not to give away a 7 tackle set? I don't know.

As I said he never was, never has been and never will be a traditional 7. He has been thrusted into that position and like all our 1st graders trying his best, unfortunately his best is not good enough. But to blame all our woes on a 14 playing 7 is fallacy

LKT is coming along but needs a decent experienced 7 to help him develop.

Lachlan Ilias. He is ignoring the fact that since he dumped him Cup has not lost a game. That is six on the trot. Media noise too says Ilias needs to be reinstated.
I've watched every ressies game this season and to my eye Illias hasn't really stood out. I havent really seen any MOM performances by him. He is improving but is it enough for a recall? I dont know, I doubt it.

You can't coach according to popular public or media opinions, no coach worth his salt would do so.

I'm just saying that there is a big difference between ressies and 1sts especially in intensity and the pace of the game.

Kyle attack and kicking has been average but that is a reflection of our overall attack.

Kyle doesn't run the attack Cook, Jack and Gutho do, you need to watch the game closely.
Just about every 4th tackle we run the play to the right leaving Kyle with 20m space to kick on the last.

Kyles mapping shows he was caught 3 times on the short side with the ball and the one time on the open he ran Lyhkan scored.
His kicking shows 7 out of 8 first half and 5 out of 8 second half he kicked the ball right on the 20m tram track.
It gives him no open field to kick too and makes it easy for opponent FB winger to cover.

Who's plan is this...

Excatly the notion that Cup are winning now Ilias is playing is ridiculous.

They were 4 2 and 1 before he dropped back.

The big question should be does Ilias fix our attack and it's a no.

I'm not happy with Kyle but unfortunately we have nothing better.

Also, the people complaining about Fitzgibbon signing with canterbury, chill tf out. People are making out like we have lost the next Thurston
Hate the Dogs with a passion but by jeez their recruitment could teach us a thing or two. Take a look at the way they are building for the future in the vital halves with Mitchell Wood, Lachlan Galvin and now Aymon Fitzgibbon. Wood was contracted long term two yrs ago as they saw his potential early. WE should be following same blueprint as them, but not hearing of a long term contract for Kade Keed who to me is of similar ability to Wood at same age. We moved quickly by going outside the club to secure LKT, Jake, LPT and make them future Dragons, but when it comes to securing our own junior talent we seem to be moving at tortoise pace. Agree Ah Kee is another we should be locking in long term along with Heidke, Te Moananui, Hutchinson, Meafou bros, before those grubs come sniffing round for them too. Is so bloody frustrating supporting this club.

Totally agree, if anything Glover has been just as good if not better but I wouldn't be promoting him either based on what I have seen especially his defensive frailties. But what would we know?

He isn’t half the player Reed, LKT or Ah Kee are

Excatly, media driven agenda that fans fall for.

You never hear when club clubs sign other clubs juniors but as soon as its a Dragons player bam.

Why is a 18yo signing a Jersey Flegg contract news....

You can add Marley McLaren and Shadi Hammoud to the list of half's that are better than him.

It is refreshing to converse with someone who has actual 1st hand knowledge of the game.

The majority of armchair coaches and critics, not particularly on this forum but others seem to forget the 4 or 5 previous plays that are structured to reach a certain point on the field.

It's very easy and convenient to lay blame on the last player with ball in hand at the end of the set and so they do.

Now if I were to tell those willing to listen that our kick return metres are the worst in the competition would they now be calling for Gutho to be removed or the 2 wingers? I doubt it.

We have played 13 games this season and we have won this particular statistic 1 out of the 13.

Now any knowledable coach will tell you that it is extremely important where we actually start our sets in possession on the field from.

If you are starting from inside your own red zone and avg 40m a set which we are this season we end up kicking from inside our half and then the majority of those kicks are metreage kicks with no pressure on the oppositions back 3.

Get the basics right then start looking for scapegoats that are failing to do their jobs on the field and are not playing up to the desired 1st grade standard.

Is Flanno putting St George first or does his son’s career come first ?

I would suggest the latter !

We all said this would happen when Flanno had Kyle signed as a backup hooker.

NSW Cup has won six straight.

Bring back Lachlan !

Give the boy from Berry a chance !

Interesting. So you lay blame at the coaches feet? I've been getting more and more negative on him.

If KF is the best half we have to choose from, head coach needs to take responsibility, doesn't he? Was this his plan all along?

Not entirely our recruitment team have been abysmal over the last 5 yrs. Yes the coach has a big say in what his requirements are in regards to players and positions but look at our recruitment and retention team and they have to take some responsibility

The 2025 and 2026 discussion is very different in terms of our 7:
  • 2025 is really just Kyle vs Ilias, no point comparing them to anyone from external.
  • 2026 we dunno yet, lets see who we can land.. I dont think Kyle or Ilias will be anywhere near the starting halves positions unless thru injury.

Didn’t Flanno call up Robinson and abuse him when Kyle was sacked by the Rooster ?

Correct me if I am wrong.

I do not think Flanno has the right perspective on Kyle.

Kyle would be good in the Super League which is where he was heading before Flanno intervened.

Surely we will beat the Eels at home !

But is that a band aid solution ?

We need three in a row to get back on track….
