Recruitment and Retention for 2026

I don’t expect us to get Tino whatsoever. If we did somehow manage to pull it off, how much would you guys be willing to pay for him? Don’t think he’d come down for any less then 1.4 mil per season which is some huge coin.
My concern would be how old is he ....... ? If he is still young enough and coming into his prime , I'd take him ........

GCRV

He’s still only 25
He ticks all the boxes about what the Dragons need, except he's injured a lot. Not as bad as Sele. He only plays about 60min a game. He'd need over 1mil a season. He's a very good prop or lock but I think the Dragons should spend money elsewhere. I think Ponga for example also has clauses in his contract. Plays 80min, doesn't play in the middle hopefully leading to fewer injuries.

You would have to think the LKT/Atkinson will be our halves pairing in 2026. The kid is still raw defensively but is improving, another off season on the tackling bags and one on one tackling tuition will help him and us.
I'll back that, even tho Atkinson is a bit of an unknown quantity, either him or Ilias. Not Flanagan. That play on Sat when LKT went to the line and laid on a beaut pass for a try, convinced me he does have organisation skill after all. That and his improving kicking game and defense says he could be ready to step into the all important #7 boots next season.

If Buzz has it correct that we are offering him the richest deal in our history which was the unmentionable one, then is it more than $1.2m, surely we havent topped the Perth Bears $1.5m. That is mind boggling.
This is the modern reality. Within the next 5 years unless they impose some kind of rule where the minimum wage is increased as a % of the salary cap, the highest paid will be on 2 million a year.

Yeah, that is crazy money.

Tino gets injured a fair bit mainly due to his high energy work rate. Players that run hard in both attack and defence, hit and get hit hard. Provided Tino doesn't suffer a season ending injury but maybe one or three weeks over a period of time during the comp, he should be able to give plenty for his asking money. We obviously cannot afford to sign a player for say $1.3M per year and he doesn't play for most of the year. Sele is tough, has strong legs and hopefully his longish term injuries will not be a problem for him next year.

Having Tino as the marquee prop will give us plenty to cheer for when he helps guide us to many wins. He is what we need and Ando and Flanno know that. Give him the keys to the City, well maybe to a nice comfortable pad in a nice suburb near the water which he and his family would be used to.

In saying all of this, I'm not taking the bait :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I agree he plays in the middle and goes hard. Doesn't hold back at all. That's why he's injured a lot. That's the main reason I'm against signing him. Plus the fact he doesn't play the entire 80 minutes.

Lets hope Tino does then DD. As you say he is precisely what we need, post Jack.
Well RVH if Jack, in the eyes of Flanno, has now reached the point where he cannot offer anymore to the club, while still quite efficient, the recruitment of a younger person of similar qualities of when Jack was Tino's age is what the club has to go for at a cost for a forward that we have not ever paid. In my eyes, Jack has been a trojan for us but now that he has reached that age where we need an upgrade of his type, a player like Tino doesn't come around too often so whatever Anderson can do, with the Boards's blessing and in keeping with the salary cap's limitations, every effort should be made to secure Tino's services moving forward to the next 5+ years.

Injuries can happen to all of the players in the NRL. Some injuries much worse than others. A player will not escape being injured if they play with intent and purpose. Lots of props get injured as you know GCRV and lots don't play for the full 80 minutes, especially the ones that are needed for impact and hard line defence. Haas for instance suffers injuries a reasonable amount of times and he doesn't play the full 80 minutes.

Tino reminds me of a young Rod Reddy and you know how he helped us with our games.

I'm so glad we didn't sign Reagan Campbell-Gillard who is Tino's playing partner at the Titans.

Tino could end up like things did with Doueihi - not the money but happy to stay because he loves the club and family reasons.

True but I think generally half backs, 5/8s and fullbacks are injured less than props.

I agree GCRV but we are talking about having a prop/lock forward signing in this case. Yes the halves and fullbacks may not have as many injuries, but they do of course have serious ones and frequently depending on how much effort they too put in. As I have said, injuries are part and parcel of being an NRL player. If you go through our squad, most have had some injury or concussion. There are a few like Kyle Flanagan, Gutherson, etc have been lucky - cross fingers.

He would be an upgrade over JDB but personally I would have not signed or tried to move on the following before not extending JDB for 1 more year with a club option for the second, as he's getting at Parra:
  • Lawrie
  • Sele
  • Leilua
  • Gular
  • Kerr

Yes in this regard you are right Eric. To have those 5 remain over Jack must mean there are other issues that might have been circulating within the inner sanctum of the club that concluded in having Jack free to go. Maybe it could be to do with his past indiscretions, even though he was cleared of them, that the club sees as a problem that other players that the recruitment staff has experienced when talking to them joining the club. I really don't know why. It has got me beat. But he has gone and therefore the next step is to get someone equivalent to replace him.

You would think though that Jack being told ages ago that he was free to sign elsewhere because the club wasn't going to extend him, that the Club would have at least got someone in mind way back then. Maybe nothing worthwhile until now, if of course Tino is actually going to leave the Titans. Maybe it has nothing to do with that inner sanctum stuff and the Dragons just want to put Hamish Stewart in that lock position or someone else - but it still comes back to why have the other 5 remain and let Jack go?

Will we be told the truth?

To me, our chances of getting Tino are at high odds. He is still contracted to the Titans to the end of 2033 albeit with a get out clause that is subject to what direction the Titans are heading and if things are stable there and if they don't suit him he will look and go elsewhere. That elsewhere is the one that can offer the best deal he can get and no doubt will also consist of plenty of clauses to cut short the contract if things don't pan out his and/or the club who he goes to, way. Dangerous territory in my opinion. Also big money offers to individuals while the other players put their guts on the line for less pay could result in disharmony.

The Bulldogs and the Perth Bears, are the other two clubs that have been reported to be interested in him at this stage besides us if what has been said in the media can be believed.

Bulldogs are surely no chance. Unless Phil Gould has half a dozen pubs to give him.

pretty easy to say we should move these guys on but reality is they probably dont want to go and are under contract, someone has to be sacrificed, we couldnt offer a contract to JDB and then hope one of the above goes, i reckon if they club had a couple of more spots, they would give Klemmer another year but reality is our cap management and top30 squad has been farked around for so long its all over the place, players signed for too much and too long..

I know. I would have tried to move them on. I know the cap is much more complicated to manage.
