The first half was 2 teams new to finals playing awful (tbf we have been a bit clunky for a while), was 8-8... but once we got thru half time we seemed to get back into the groove that we were in earlier in the year.. pushing out to a 24-8 lead... mostly off the back of the forwards and Glover was in everything.. tenacious, tackle busting.. amazing, he really needs to get the ball as often as possible moving forward. NickT is a huge inclusion also, guy is a powerhouse and fast.. huge improvement with Heidke being out.
2nd half we did let them back in late (24-18 final score), but the ref was awful.. I rly wish we had a captains challenge or bunker for finals.. crunch games and I would hate to see one decided by a howler. But anyway we went on with it, big challenge with the Warriors next week however! But we still have a 2nd bite of the cherry also.. the good thing about next week is we get some of the 1st grade boys back.. so as strong as possible.. noting that Lawrie is out and Lawson went down with a leg injury while sprinting early in this game.. so that could be another one gone.. Glover was injured at one point also but seemed to play on OK.. cross fingers there..
Well done boys, some positivity out of the weekend =)
Fantastic, thanks Justa.final 24 - 18 Dave
I think we drew with them last time, so there is always hope.NZ v Saints. Winner to gf, loser plays the winner of Parramatta v Canberra
100%. They’ve been the standout all season losing just 2 games and we had a draw when we last played them at the gong. But pressure and expectations in the finals is a different beast especially if we can get off to a cracking start. Few players to come back next week won’t hurt eitherI think we drew with them last time, so there is always hope.
Very strong 17With the rules that I've been told we could have a line up like this next week.

No Lawson then Nick in Jett to bench.
Jet, Hutcho, Cyrus, Jesse, Pek, Webby, Jarrah from tonight could all miss out
Fingers crossed for Lawson, but could be pushing shit up hill, didn’t look good. I’d say Feagai to wing and Nick to centre would be the goJett has been one of our best so he will be unlucky, id prefer him over BMM, but I get the BMM experience.. and he can turn a game if we need it.. CST i like but fair enough.. and Williams unlucky.. but might play a game yet.
When you say 'if Lawsons out = Nick in', do you mean Nick to ctr and either Buchanan or Feagai to wing?
Did Hutcho play well? Any chance of him making the cut for next game? With the rules that I've been told we could have a line up like this next week.

Not sure what the injury is.. he was sprinting and I thought we would score until he just stopped.. if there is any risk, we really dont need him with Feagai and Allan coming back into the mix and Williams has been solid...Fingers crossed for Lawson, but could be pushing shit up hill, didn’t look good. Ref was aweful, really taking the pi$$, we got lucky tbh the Eels had so many completely unforced errors in the 1st half.. as I was saying before I just wish there was a captains challenge like they used to have in flegg i think it was.. esp for finals.. were not gonna be beating the warriors by 18pts ya know.. and were gonna have to play the warriors twice if we make it to the g/f. tbf were gonna have to overcome a bad decision or 2.. just hope its not all 1-way.That 2nd last eels try where Talataina took Ramsey out for catching the bomb
what an egregious refereeing decision, lucky it didn’t cost us the match
How good is Tsougranis btw, feel bad for him with the timing of his injury. Would have played a load of NRL games and done really well
Should be competing for a spot in the 17 next year no doubt, immense value in his versatility. Very similar to Tallis Duncan/Dylan Lucas
Hutcho is good, he's a different cat to the other forwards.. he has that curve in his running style, he doesnt just run straight like the rest.. slightly lighter frame too (but big enough), I rly like the kid.. hes just behind a bunch atm, but if hes not in a huge hurry, maybe 2yrs in NSW Cup first... still feel decent that he might make it if he doesnt take opportunity elsewhere first.. its just Liu and CST in front of him still at this stage.Did Hutcho play well? Any chance of him making the cut for next game?
He's still only 19, isn't he? Hutcho I mean. I imagine he'll easily add quite a few kgs. I haven't seen that much of him play but from what I saw, he runs and tackles hard, has an offload and a pass, as you say, doesn't just run straight and does it for a lot of minutes. JDB mark II.Not sure what the injury is.. he was sprinting and I thought we would score until he just stopped.. if there is any risk, we really dont need him with Feagai and Allan coming back into the mix and Williams has been solid...
Williams is a funny one, he is REALLY good at catching bombs.. positioning his body for impact in front of the ball.. and hes rly fast so hes decent @ scramble and obviously scoring tries... but the things he has to improve, he needs to get no more injuries in this next month and spend the offseason doing defensive training with 1st grade.. he can be a bit helter skelter.. a bit random with his movement.. which could be partially be becaues hes so fast he can potentially shut things down easier than most.. and tbf he often saves it by scrambling with speed.. but its something he has to work on cause a good 1st grade winger if given the space will burn him... but good progress.. just gotta stay fit.

And yes imo the disrespect of NickT this year has been gross (imo), was so many weeks he should have been in 1st grade (before he got injured), I know everyone is all aboard the Halangahu train (and I cant wait to see what he does, probably as a middle as he ages) but NickT is several years ahead of him and so much more of a threat in attack.. hes fast he has footwork, he breaks tackles, hes more agile.. imo ur 2nd rower has to be able to generate points (either he does it himself, or create space/opportunity for his ctr/winger).. you cant just defend your way with 2nd rowers who make their tackle imo. Halangahu is doing great for his age, but before hes a 1st grade 2nd rower he has to find a way to turn his tractor runs into attacking opportunities, or he has to play in the middle which I think is the real answer.. but hopefully he can have a chilled 2026, floating between grades for injury etc.. and maybe by 2027 hes a bench prop for 1st grade, when his body is a little older.. something like that.. I mean who knows, 1 preseason can change everything.

CST hasnt been the same beast the back end of the season either, maybe the season has just gone on a bit long for him.. was rly loving him mid-season, hes got all the characteristics to make it somewhere as an edge or middle.
Souths will have 4 former halves at the club - Hornby, Glover, Ward and Sullivan. Hornby of course being Bennett's assistant. The halves that Souths will have will mean that there will be plenty of back up if needed but what gets me, the main thing is to be able to play first grade. Souths also has Humphries so go figure!!??Glover played well ! Souths will have three former dragons in their halves…
They still have that English halfback on the books as well but it seems he'll get getting 700k a year to play in the Sydney Shield for the next 3 years.Souths will have 4 former halves at the club - Hornby, Glover, Ward and Sullivan. Yeah I think LPT/Egan/Halangahu/Couchmen/CST are sort of setting a benchmark that isnt normal in terms of age for forward development... Liu is more a normal trajectory as Jack was.. get 1-2 years of Flegg & 2 full years of NSW Cup under ur belt... then come into 1sts somewhere between 22-24yrs of age..He's still only 19, isn't he? In my personal opinion based on my experiences we simply cannot keep them all. Kids these days tied to managers who are money hungry will dictate the number of these youngsters that will leave and find a 1sts spot elsewhere in the competition. With the introduction of another team in 27 these kids are already on their radars. Let us hope we keep the ones we need and really want. Time will tell if I'm right.Yeah I think LPT/Egan/Halangahu/Couchmen/CST are sort of setting a benchmark that isnt normal in terms of age for forward development... Hutcho if he can do that, be rly interested to see where he is in 12 and 24mths time.. I like that there are different types of middles.. Couchies, Latu, LPT, Halangahu, Hutcho even CST, they are all uniquely shaped.. Hutcho I guess he is not agile enough for 2nd row, and I assume he is not a lock.. so hes a prop but a more mobile one which is totally good.. and like you said he will get much more solid yet.. but its a good base to come off with some lateral ability.
Love this young pack, just need to hope we can keep the side competitive so we can keep em happy for another 1-2yrs while they come of age, and we need some luck recruiting some backs, we have some holes to fill for sure.
