2025 Season - The season that was

The board should be totally hands off in relation to running the football club, apart from appointing (and sacking) the CEO. The board's role is to oversee legal governance, monitor the strategic direction of the club, approve major expenditure, and if there is an issue ask the CEO to report.

I feel your frustration, Dave. Unfortunately, accountability is unlikely to be accepted. That said, I’m hopeful that the changes across the executive team, starting with the new CEO and recruitment manager is the beginning of a more successful era.
Lets remind ourselves that the Broncos were wooden spooners in 2020, and in the last 5 years they have played finals except for one year, grand finals and here we are at next weeks GF. Whilst my feelings for Brisbane are minimal and even more so because of Hunt, I ask myself what have we done in the last 7 years, we have hung around like stale bottles of piss going from one f#@k up to another and watching the world go by, we really are a shadow of our former selves. This next year is a critical year for the Dragons and their future, the way our crowds are leaving us high and dry, if we are a bottom 4 out of 19 teams then god help us.

They were wooden spooners but they played a brand of attacking football. Something Flanno needs to do with us. The young, mobile forward pack of next year will be a good start. Having a new halfback will be huge. That is crucial. And I don't mean move this years halfback to 5/8. At least one more fast winger. I think Sami would be good. Preferably 2 but Flanno thinks the world of CT. Suli should be under pressure from Buchanan or Holmes moves to the wing to accommodate Buchanan. A lot of points in a team such as that.

With the Couchmans, maybe Tsougranis, Liddle and Cook, it's a really mobile forward pack!

Agree Dave, my only worry with your team is Gutho, and slowing in the next 2 years.

All your points are valid Justadragon. Our problem isn't that we have had some bad years, our problem is we haven't had the capability to improve. I was hopeful when WIN Entertainment became more prominent within the joint venture, that we would adopt the Broncos and the Storm model and appoint talented executives to run the organisation. As mentioned above, I believe we are finally moving towards a more professional setup. I hope the new CEO is strong enough to make the tough calls and smart enough to surround himself with ambitious and talented staff.

2026 will be a make or break year for the Dragons. Many good young guns coming through mingled into some decent experienced players and some external players coming - not many so far but I think that there will be a few more signed up before the year ends. The C of E should be finished by mid 2026 and at that point in time, we should know if we are a chance of making the 8 or we will be dunces again and if it is the latter, woe be tide for some officials/coaches I'd say. If heading in the right direction and looking the goods, well those same officials/coaches will get their due accolades and hopefully the fans return in droves.

A few ifs there, but we have been an iffy club for many years. So what's a few more ifs then?

I hope you are right George, you can say that this year is the baseline and we go from there. The previous CEO was supposed to be this business savvy guy and he ended up being a yes man to the board. Haran has also been the problem for many years.

The previous CEO appeared to me to be out of his depth. I believed he tried, he just imploded under the pressure. In relation to Ben Haran, perhaps his role is one that should be scrutinised by his boss.

I thought LKT was good. Has to work on his defence but partnered with a better halfback and behind a better pack, I think he'll go really well.
He goes ok but if Gutho has to play because they signed him for 3 years , then he cant stay at fullback lack of speed both in attack and defense .......... This is a big problem going forward , like I mentioned the only way I see it is Holmes to fullback and find a position for Gutho ..........

I reckon Gutho will be ok at fullback for at least another year but if not, Gutho halfback, LKT 5/8.

OK I'm going to put myself out there lads, watching bits and pieces of the KOE Cup, I watched young TPH running from fullback, lightening quick, great courage and fearless to a tee. Remined me of a Walsh and Papenhuyzen. So there, something to think of outside the box. Feel free to shoot me down anyway you want. We need something different, an x Factor, a point of difference to what we are always doing.

He's got great defensive technique, could he be trialled at hooker? Tbh even the elite fullbacks have flaws but in top teams those flaws are less exposed. I wouldn't mind him at fullback, obv oppo would try to expose his height but it might make their attack predictable too & we could try to 'protect' him. He's got some great traits & love his attitude. Jye Gray, Joash Papali, Trai Fuller are some of the shorter players who've played at fullback or in the spine.
