The guy in the video is playing 5/8. That indicates to me, he could be a 5/8, or fullback or even a centre in League. He must have a good kicking game to be playing 5/8.

To me the union fly half is more like the League halfback ... The union halfback getting the ball from the back of the ruck and feeding it to the 10 ...
I dont disagree with you at all on fullback or 5/8 but the halfback option is there as well.

Tim Watsford could honestly be our best signing since Wayne. I know he’s only been in the gig for half a year but geez he is a breath of fresh air. Just demands success on and off the field. Looking forward to see him take the club forward into the future
I think Shane Flannagan is one of our best signings ever. He hasn't had the cattle to work that Bennett had. In his first season he had us overachieving. In his second season, we had so many injuries. No coach would have done much better, if any better with the roster we had over the last 2 years and injuries last year. Last year Wayne Bennett had a much stronger roster than Flanno did, but Souths too were ravaged with injuries and they only won one more game than we did. Bennett did manage to win a comp with us and that was the last one he did win. I used to say, my mum could have coached Brisbane to win comps at Brisbane with the roster Bennett had when he was winning comps there and my mum doesn't even know the rules to Rugby League. Bennett could have resigned with us and stayed. He didn't have to leave after 3 years, like many who blame Doust for not giving him a 5 year contract with us. Maybe he thought he got lucky too? Maybe he saw a declining roster, but he could have stayed as our coach, but didn't want to. He didn't have our long term interest at heart. He didn't bringing many juniors through, besides Merrin and Kyle Stanley. Stanley was considered one of the best young talents in the game at the time, but he only got to play 1 game at 5/8 while Bennett was here and that was the final game of the season when Bennett rested most of the team before the semis. I am not saying Bennett isn't a good coach either. Winning a comp with us as his greatest achievement. Flanno has our long term interests at heart. He wants to be here and be our long term coach. Flanno may prove to be even more important to us than Bennett was. After Bennett left, we went into decline. Bennett also recommended we appoint Price to replace him. That turned out to be a poor recommendation. When Bennett left Brissy, then us, then Newcastle and then Brisbane all of those teams had poor seasons after it and it made Bennett look even better. Flanno has Saints in his blood.

Bennett was a mercenary. He went to Newcastle, with Tickler as owner and bought more players in that time than any other club has bought in my memory. He then went to Souths, who had the backing of Crowe and Holmes a Court, who both were very wealthy. He then went back to Brissy, who have always been a powerhouse "silvertail" club. Then back to Souths with Crowe and Holmes A Court still there. Then he went to Redcliff and didn't make the semis. I didn't expect him to make the semis there. Even though he didn't make the semis, I thought he did well with the roster he had to work with there.

The team Flanno has this year is very much "his team". Is Blocka the only one not signed or extended under Flanno's watch?

He will forever be known to me as St Benny as I sat there at the 2010 GF and with 20 min to go waved goodbye to the Roosters supporters sitting near us. Memorable

Yep been banned also , who ever is running the show over there is a wanker , gutless , would not give any explanation why so had to change my name and email to get back on ........ They or he thinks he has the power over everyone ..... Anyway as you say , here is much better so if I get banned again I don't give a rat's .........
I have never considered myself left or right wing. I have always considered myself an independent thinker and had/have some views that are labelled left wing and some that are labelled right wing. Going back 15 years plus, I think others would have put me in the left wing category. I noticed that site would ban posters for expressing views/opinions/beliefs that are now labelled right wing, but often wasn't labelled right wing 15 years ago or more. That in itself is what bigotry really is, which the site says, they do not tolerate. I am quite certain that no one has been banned from that site in the last 13 years plus for expressing any views/opinions/beliefs, which are now labelled left wing. I also use the word "labelled". One thing I thought was left wing was "freedom of speech", but the left wing don't fit that criteria anymore. 15 years ago or so. I also thought the right wing was "politically correct" and the left wing were the ones who weren't politically correct. Was I wrong about that or is it that it has now it has been flipped.

PS I am not interested in getting into any political discussions on this site. I am only pointing out what I have "noticed" and noticed long ago and think should be pointed out and said.

I wanted Flanno to get the job with us and glad he did. But if you have a look at the last game we played against Souths, they had more injuries than we had and had nearly all their big name players out. We got dusted up 40 to zip and Bennett coached that game to a tee. For me it will always be Bennett first and daylight second and the fact that Doust refused to give Bennett 5 years right from the get go will come down to one of the biggest mistakes this club has ever made.

As for KK ... it is a massive massive signing for us.
It shows that there is a change, even if we had to pay overs and agree to a contract potentially a little long, we have gone to market and signed the best available player in their position.

Happy that we have Watsford and Anderson on board leading this and if TPAs were involved to close the deal then a massive thumbs up to Club 17 and whatever connections were involved to close it out.

With the tigers, the first signing was the important one and from Luai they secured several more off the back of it. I hope that we can do something similar and by the time KK arrives have a balanced squad across all positions.
We didn't at all pay over's for Koloamantagi. I think we got ourselves a good deal. If I was Ando, Watsford or Flano, I would have been prepared to go 1.2 mil a season for Kolomantagi. He is one of the best props in the game and they are very hard to sign.

As for Wests signing Luai, I think they paid massive over's for him. I think he is worth 800K max and even then he wouldn't have been on my shopping list.

Absolutely. As was pointed out above, there is an incredible list of outright stars of the game who over the years have debuted at 17 and 18. Be great if we can turn out a few. They just have to be able to take the knocks. So I looked up Rokko Walker's highlights to check his physique and got the following. Is this him? Bcs, geez, if this is Rokko Walker at 16, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him debut at 18 (it says 2024, so he could be 15 years old here!).

I will also add that Union 5/8's are often good goal kickers, so we may have signed our next goal kicker too.

I agree they paid overs for him ... and i also agree i probably wouldnt have gone that way ...

But getting him has meant they have signed Turuva/May x 2 all of whom have improved them - yes they may be flogs but the one key signing gave them the next ones. My hope in this is that KK opens the door for others who may see the pack building and think - yep, i could enjoy running in the space KK creates for me.

Flanagan also said Atkinson could be our long term half. That is a double whammy on young Reed who I think will be FG ready before you maintain as he has the ability of other similar aged halfs that have already debuted in the top grade. He has only been extended to '27 too.
In the early 2000's we had Brett Firman playing halfback for us and he was doing pretty well too, until he got injured and that opened the door for Matty Head. That was the end of Brett Firman. As I previously mentioned I was a massive fan of Matty Head and like many others thought he was going to be our long term halfback. It was only injuries that prevented that being the case.

From interviews or media quotes, I know Flanno does think highly of Reed. I am pretty sure he mentioned him playing against fully grown men in the Illawarra comp. Flanno has also spoken of not rushing him, due to his size and wants him to develop physically.

we are a funny bunch of supporters ... we are so skittish when we actually look to be trying to build depth in positions, we cannot seem to grasp it.

If we buy another half we are not nessesarily blocking Reed, we are taking care of ourselves and creating depth/competition for places strenghtening the entire club.

If Reed is good enough he will demand selection in a starting spot, if the other bloke who could potentially come in is better then bully for us we are a stronger team.

We have been shit for so long having depth scares us.

Of course this is predicated on actual respect by staff for performance and depth at the selection table.
We just don't want it to turn out like when Canterbury let Thurston go, because they had Anasta and Sherwin as their halves.

Chat at the time was that Firman was a victim of Barrett ... Something happened in that Round 1 game vs the Raiders and Baz had a whinge ... Firman was blamed/relegated and then snapped his leg a week or so later.

Head was probably the 2nd best halfback option we had post Noel, for mine Dean Byrne was the one who had the ability but again injuries were cruel to him.

Byrne and Head though, actual halfbacks ... it has been a while.
