We are on a winner with the Pup twins, they look all quality. Cornelius reminds me a of a young Critter, big, pacey with ball skills while Alexander was close to our best often taking the leather over the advantage line. He will likely develop an offload once he settles in and gains confidence. Both are also strong defenders. Like to see Cornelius with room to move in coming games.

Impressed by Gardiner's all round game, has some organising ability, a decent kicking and running game, is a sound defender and he kicks goals too. Early days but he looks to be a worthy replacement for Ah Kee. Cooper Young will be our work horse as he appears to have a strong engine. Will Pappas looks a goer in the centre as well.

Injury update

Pappas shoulder popped back in,
Farquhar shoulder was put back at hospital both will have scans but looks like no major damage.

Shadi message to say Layth was taking to hospital for precautionary test but is ok.
sux though, its a short season and they could be long injuries.

I didnt see the tackle that took Hammoud out, they walked him off with 2 trainers, so everyone assumed it was a lower leg but it clearly wasnt.. was it concussion, possible neck issue? I thought I saw a brace as they wheeled him off on the ambo stretcher.. all very strange..

I am not looking forward to valentines day.. makes last week look like a bludge... these are in QLD Time, add an hour for NSW, all games on BarTV (apart from 1st grade).

Saturday Feb 14th:
  • 12.30PM - Steelers HM (Commentated)
  • 2PM - Steelers SG Ball (Commentated)
  • 2PM - Dragons HM
  • 3.30PM - Dragons SG Ball
  • 4PM & 4.45PM - Jersey Flegg & KoE Trials
  • 7.10PM - Charity Shield (Commentated/KAYO)
Probably watch the Steelers SG @2pm, and just watch highlights or skip through the Dragons HM as they are the same time... prob the game im most looking forward to is the Flegg/KoE which iirc is half a game for each grade? I thought they just mashed them all together last year.. but my memory isnt great... also I dont think they will have an official team-list, so theres gonna be some detective work on a few of em.

Edit: Note that the entire Souths Reserve grade squad are playing in the charity shield also.. so something has to give there..

Winning is now even more of an outside chance with the omission of skipper Luc Halangahu who was terrific in the season opener.

The halves Walker and Rapp looks to be promising partnership.

Are there big wraps on Rapp?

Steelers HM Notes (12-22 Loss):
  • Api Amone not named due to last weeks dog shot, Asher Chapman the gun 9 is playing in the 13.
  • Roosters are a gun team and hitting us pretty hard, but off some penalties Chapman scored the first just beating his man close to the line. For some reason Chapman is taking goalkicks and missing a simple one here.. not sure why Burton isnt..
  • Just on Burton, there is a lot of niggle in this game, both captains called out already, Burton loves a bit of niggle.. I dont mind it from a competitive point of view.. he will have to eventually dial it in a fraction though.
  • The young Toia brother (rooster) is a hothead.. but anyway our #11 Ruiz dropped the ball in a big collision.. then returned the favour on one of their boys causing them drop it.. this is the sort of game we r having here.
  • I've changed my mind about BarTV having a commentator, I have to mute whoever this kid is, good lord, hes getting every 2nd name wrong and has no rhythm at all.
  • Our ctr Tausala dives his way over for our 2nd try.. scrum play and we created the extra man and he took advantage.. was a good run though... good pace... another Chapman missed goal.
  • This next period.. yuck... .. we defended rly well for a while, but they just jave athletes across the park hitting us with skill and speed... eventually they dive in from dummy half and it starts a shit sandwich, we let in 18 points in 5 minutes.. 3 sets in a row.. all converted.. some of our boys are out on their feet. 8-18 Half Time.
  • We nrly go in thru burton and then chapman who was ankle tapped 1m out... and from there couchman gives a crazy intercept.. crazy as the rooster caught it at full pace... and went the 80m, but we chased him hard... and just got a foot of his into touch 'as' he puts the ball down over the line.. was a kade reed like chase.. it was winger Preston Sager who got him (who was a star last week).. big tall ranga beautiful chase with great pace.. Ollie was there too and hands on him, but it was Sager who did the work.
  • Finally the little pr**k Toia gets sent for 10 after yet another dog tackle.. I bet this bloke is living off his brothers name, everything is high and forceful and just a cat.
  • We had a full set on their line and they held us back easily.. very frustrating.. then the Roosters were happy to march up field and score again even with 12 men.. Jed Young our #12, this wasnt just his fault.. but he has missed a lot of tackles, think the game is too fast for him. 8-22.
  • Another try for us.. with Tausala attacking where the missing roosters ctr is and doing a good job right on the left touchline, 12-22. Ollie back goalkicking but just misses..
  • Few more chances but that was the final score.. we really let ourselves with that one 5-min period into halftime, 18 damn points..... and goalkicking.. otherwise we were competitive, but really missed our best forward in Amone.. we needed him against a side like that.. I think thats the missing piece for this squad.. the forwards.... maybe the new brigade are a year young.. I do like Fangupo but hopefully he is young cause I think he has the body to be something special, but hes quite there just yet.
  • The other noticeable performances.. Ollie didnt have his best game but he was always trying, Chapman is a genuine gun can almost play anywhere.. first grader in him wherever he plays.. Couchman I dunno what to make of him either.. hes playing #6, he has footwork and is scheming.. but hes as big a body as most of the others on the field, wouldnt that be a 13? Dunno hes alright though, and he gets the ball to the right ppl, but not sure if hes a longterm 6... Destin Tausala is one to keep an eye on, strong burrowing nuggety centre... and my new favourite winger at our club (with Williams on a break and Sione gone) is Preston Sager.. love this kid.. he looks srsly tall and strong.. like a Brent Tate or something but younger/slimmer.. but looks big, rangy, strong and clearly fast the way he chased down the roosters ctr with a huge headstart.. good game kid.

Just turned the HM Steelers game on - is the commentator taking the piss?!?!?!? WTF!
I had to mute him after the first few minutes.. hes probably calling the next game too, he was calling Coleho (the #14) as Chapman for ages (Chapman is in the 9 jersey), then when we score it was "Chapman passes to the number 9.. Chapman!" without apology lol... but I can handle that... but he keeps raising his vice in excitement at the wrong times, was hurting me..... Not sure what BarTV should do cause most fans want or need the commentators to know who the players are... but I guess its a harder job than I realised.
