St George Dragons U18s & U16s played the first of their '26 nswrl trial development matches yesterday. Our 18s drew with Tigers while our 16s did the same against the Panthers, 16s also had a gutsy 4-0 win over the Tigers. These are encouraging results by our Saints juniors.

There is a kid in the 18s, big agile Pacific Islander centre who pulled off a miracle four pointer with a kick chase/regather on the full, then an offload almost in the same movement.

No team lists on Bar, so will scout round and attempt to identify him. He looked like Cornelius P, but is surely not him.

No dice.

DT Matts Ranking

11. ASHER CHAPMAN
Rank change: ↑1

Position: Hooker

Skills: Speed | Running game | Step/footwork | Passing

The speedy hooker was a key asset to the Steelers side early in the season.

His pace out of the ruck and ferocity at the line has often quickly led to defenders starting in front of him and finishing behind him.

A stint in the lock role also proved he is just as capable there, helping to unlock his side’s attack in more ways than one

8. ROKKO WALKER
Rank change: N/A

Position: Five-Eighth / Fullback

School: Cranbrook School Bellevue Hill

Skills: Speed | Step / Footwork | Running Game | Vision

There were plenty wondering what would come of the union convert, with eyes both here in Australia and abroad in New Zealand eagerly watching to see how young Walker would get going.

He certainly hasn’t disappointed. Bringing over his distinct running style to a new code has so far worked a treat with the five-eighth more than adept at taking on the line.

His finest moment came in Round 2. With the scores levelled late in the game, Walker puts in an audacious chip kick that he regathers before putting his hooker away to seal the win.

The gamble from the Dragons looks to be paying off.

Note Rokko has a lot to learn and a long way to go but has all the skills to make it..

4. OLIVER BURTON
Rank change: ↑1

Position: Fullback

School: Illawarra Sports High School

Skills: Speed | Running game | Step / Footwork | Tackle buster

The most expected thing with Burton is the unexpected.

It’s that trait that’s proved so damaging to oppositions so far this season with his knack of picking up the scraps of an otherwise finished play to create something out of nothing.

With pace to burn, Burton has no issue getting on either the outside or the inside of defenders.

With four wins so far, he is at the crux of Steelers’ success to this point.

Good to read, cheers.

Chapman has only played the 3 games so far also, one at hooker, two at lock.. this week its 5/8, honestly hes solid as in every game he plays, but I think his ranking is more based on last year, cause he hasnt rly had a chance to make his mark this season.. but hes a quality player no matter where he plays he is very professional.

The Steelers HM side had a pretty tough draw first up also and rly hasnt hit their stride.. they r jagging some close wins.. but they dont seem to have gelled yet.. luckily there is still time and they have the wins under their belt to be a shot at finals.. whereas the U19's has lost all the close games and its already over.

The other question is whether its still a 5-man finals series, cause being a 17 team comp now, pretty tough ask to make Top 5...

I think it might be a top 6 this year?
