Yep this wasn’t a planned outcome where we are at now, the Gutho and cook + Leilua were all knee jerk signings
Just lock our young guys in for as long as we can, retain the good ones and flog the dross. That’s a mantra for any club/GM can follow

Because he’s a terrible communicator and doesn’t know how to get on with young guys. Benji for all his faults is adored by the young kids at the tigers (apart from Galvin who’s shite and overrated)
Because he always panics and looks to buy a comfortable and recognisable name that he thinks can help him win the next game. Doesn't think long term at all.

I was in favour of signing Gutho (but not Cook or Leilua) but it seems like the wrong call now. He's struggling. Though if his halves were decent so he could play like a fullback rather than a 5/8 it would help. Also if his wingers weren't slow as a wet week.

It’s more than just him out the back of shape(which he’s dreadful in) but it’s also his kick returns. It’s such a big issue that never gets brought up. He poses no threat and his yardage carries etc are woeful
Fullbacks need to be able to punish teams with a poor kick chase and he can’t do it
He’s also no particularly great under the high ball despite the narrative that he’s safe as houses
The Cook one I was ambivalent, neither here nor there as long as the money wasn’t outrageous
The Leilua signing was just so obviously bad and the money being touted makes it even worse
A pure desperation signing, this coach was managing our list a few years ago ffs

I think Atkinson on 3 years 1.5 mil allegedly is the only Flanno signing that I thought was a slam dunk
I think Val is a good signing as well despite the big coin, he’s still actually good at rugby league

Cook extends for another year surprised me but it is what it is. So 2027 should see a more equal time for both he and Liddle in the 9.

The way he plays makes injury almost inevitable for someone his age. But we'd get much more out of him if Flanno put him on his favoured side.

His pre pass movement and soft hands make him so good on the left edge
Also covers his defensive deficiencies because most teams tend to favour the left wing for attack so their going to our right edge/centre/wing
