I thought we should have only signed Gutho for 2 years at the max and that was only because we couldn't sign anyone else better.Problem is, Gutho is on a lot of money to be retired.

I was in favour of sighing but only for 2 years or with a club option for a 3rd. He's fading fast. Shouldn't have signed him.I thought we should have only signed Gutho for 2 years at the max and that was only because we couldn't sign anyone else better.
If we didn't have Flanno as coach, it would have been Dean Young's or Ben Hornby's 3rd year. Do you think we would have done any better with either of them and been better positioned for next year with either of them or would the fans be calling for them to be sacked by now? It was always going to be a tough 3 years at least when Flanno took over. Anyway, if Flanno is to be sacked early. All the mail suggest Dean Young will finally get to be our first grade coach. In Flanno's 3rd year this is where we are? He should have been sacked this week.
I am wondering if Flanno didn't pick Reed, because if Reed did perform really good, he would have to keep him there and that would be the end of Kyle's first grade career? So he picked King Togia instead.Flanno will be moving guys around making sure nobody gets a fair go until the boy is ready to go. He won't want anyone showing boy up. Ideal time to give reed a shot in my opinion can't be as bad as it is now
It has pretty much been that way, since Steve Price coached us. He was reluctant to play youngsters. I remember his saying something along the lines of a softly softly approach with youngsters. I think it may have had something to do with Bennett's influence. Bennett didn't blood many juniors when he coached us. The only 2 I remember he blooding were Merrin and Kyle Stanley. Stanley had massive wraps on him, but never got a chance to play 5/8, except one game last round of the season, when Bennett rested pretty much the whole first grade team. Jack Debelin should have been playing regular first grade when Price was coach, but he held him back. Bennett also made the famous remark saying get the defence right and the attack will come. That has been a mantra at our club ever since Bennett took over and our attack has always been lacking ever since, maybe except for 2018.I’m over the Gutho chat, he’s washed now and it’s well established 3 years was way too long
We have a coach that won’t sign players he hasn’t heard of or aren’t well established in first grade
He would have shuddered at the thought of signing Kaeo Weekes when he was being misused at manly
If it wasn't Flanno, we wouldn't have Kyle and in all likelihood would have signed one of the halves that have become available in that time.If we didn't have Flanno as coach, it would have been Dean Young's or Ben Hornby's 3rd year. Who? Most players we try to sign, knock us back and that has been the case since at least 2012. Who do you think Dean Young or Ben Hornby would have signed to play in the halves? We have been surviving on other clubs off cuts since at least 2012. How many in demand players who were not let go early by their current clubs have we signed since 2011 or more precise, who, besides Koloamatangi and possibly Ben Hunt or Gareth Widdop? If it wasn't Flanno, we wouldn't have Kyle and in all likelihood would have signed one of the halves that have become available in that time.

Not many teams sign big names. They don't become available very often. Good coaches identify young players before anyone has heard of them and they become big names.Who? Off the top of my heaed, since Crowe and Holmes A Court bought Souths, they have signed Asotasi, Sam Burgess, Inglis, Mitchell, Wighton, Fifita, Brandon Smith and Haas. That is an impressive list. Not many teams sign big names. They don't become available very often. Good coaches identify young players before anyone has heard of them and they become big names.
And which of those were Dragons in the market for? Which big names has Penrith signed for example?Off the top of my heaed, since Crowe and Holmes A Court bought Souths, they have signed Asotasi, Sam Burgess, Inglis, Mitchell, Wighton, Fifita, Brandon Smith and Haas. That is an impressive list.
How about Easts. Brandon Smith, Reece Robson, Joseph Sua'ali for massive money, who was contracted to Souths and had massive wraps on him. Angus Crichton, David Fifita who backflipped, Cherry Evans, Luke Keary, Cronk, Dom Young, Fletcher, Brett Morris, Maloney, Sonny Bill Williams, Warrea Havgraves, who had massive wraps him at Manly and who wanted to keep him.
Canterbury Tony Williams, Brett Morris, Burton, Crichton, Galvin, Leo Thompson, Kikau, Foran, James Graham, Pangai Junior
In the 80's and 90's when Manly were a big name club, they used to sign heaps of big money players and were usually a top 4 team.
I have a saying, if you can't compete off the field, you can't compete on the field. That has been our predicament, since 2012.
Tend to somewhat agree but at some stage if your leaders are underperforming and being embarrassed, then they have to be called out.For me this doesn’t show Kingsley in a good light. Looks like a coach under immense pressure. I don’t agree with calling out your captain & best players like that. I’d call them to a private meeting then give it to them but that’s just me.
Which ones do you think would have signed with us? I heard we were in the market for Luke Keary and Cherry Evans and we almost signed Kikau, but changed the amount of the deal at the last minute and he then went to Canterbury. And which of those were Dragons in the market for? I don't go into hypotheticals though if we were paying overs, I think several. In hindsight, should have payed overs for a few of them. It's also not as if our last 4 coaches, including this one, have had a lot of pulling power.Which ones do you think would have signed with us? Penrith haven't signed many big name or in demand players that I can think of. The only one I can think of who could fit the bill was Merrin. They did sign Soward, but I don't think he was in demand.
