Round 5 v Cowboys

Yep .. ignore the two hookers ...

You need to pick 8 forwards and to me our best 8 forwards are
Stewart/SuA/Leilua/Toby/Loko/Jake/Ryan and Sele

so if that is your options you then put them in the best spots and build a game plan .. and it would have to be a mobile fast game plan with a lot of tip ons

SuA
hooker
Toby
Leilua
Jake
Stewart

Loko
Ryan
Sele

Obvioulsly with Ryan injured you need to use one of Lawrie/Guler/Kerr in that role which sucks.
next year (if we keep them) the 8 players become KK/Toby/Egan/Halangahu/Stewart - Loko/Ryan/One of Luc or Sua depending on the bears and recruitment

Time to pick the best players and mould them into the team not just say Guler and Cake are our most experienced props they start at prop.

The key to a team like that though is a first touch halfback who actually moves them around and gets teh play one pass wider into smaller collisions.

I’d like to see Nick T in there somewhere too

Maybe he isn't physically ready, but the other options aren't good enough. Look where the other options have gotten us. Flanno is now looking like his coaching career is over. I probably thought he wasn't physically ready before the Charity Shield, due to his light frame, but after seeing him be our best player in the Charity Shield, I changed my mind. I certainly don't think King Togia is ready for first grade either or good enough for first grade. I don't think Kyle is good enough for first grade. The only other option I see is moving Gutho to 5/8, but that may be off the table if he has done his hamstring. It appears Flanno is dammed if he does play Reed and dammed if he doesn't. There are lots of others calling for Reed to be picked including rugby league people on Foxsports and other media organisations.
I am just relying on my past experiences in the game. Play makers who appear to have the skill sets of young Reed are diamonds in the rough.

They don't come along very often. He has to be given time for his body to adjust to the rigours of 1st grade, not just talking about being able to take a hit but talking about the speed of the game today.

A player needs to be physically ready, have the stamina to compete. Tiredness and exhausted play makers don't do your team any good, trust me on that.

Introducing Reed into our current squad is fraught with danger both physically and mentally. I would wait, taking into consideration the current mindset of our team. Just my personal views.

We owe Reed a better coach.

We owe Reed a better coach.
We owe Reed the opportunity to come into 1st grade with a competitive team. The last 2 weeks tells me we have some deep seated behind the doors issues between the coach and some players.

Last week I was at the ground and the team looked like they were going through the motions against the Titans, very little talk on the field or leadership which surprised me.

Yesterday they didn't even go through the motions. This is a team that is in disarray.

When Flanno first came in, I gave him credit, and still do, for the way he spoke about the club and his aim to restore pride in the jersey. Unfortunately, despite the intent, his methods haven’t worked. When he said earlier this year that this team wouldn’t be winning the premiership, he was being realistic, but it’s not something a head coach should put out publicly. I thought at the time it could affect the players. Whether it has or not, I don’t know, but as Jack Gibson said more than once, a coach needs to know when it’s time to move on. For Flanno, that time has arrived.

You may recall as well as others on this Forum that the only game that we have won, in between the four consecutive losses late last year and the five losses this year, was against the Knights in the trial game and yes, Reed played in it. I say, I say there was the sign then and there that Reed should have been the half from day 1 of the comp in Vegas and Atkinson the 5/8th - his best position. At that time we were not in this predicament of struggles but to get our attack in the right picture, which at the moment is a flop, to overcome these struggles a player like Reed is needed irrespective of his age and build and any thing else. His good points outweigh the negatives we see of him. Any player can cop an injury at any time as we see every week and that is part of playing league and who knows, he might come through unscathed for many weeks and in that time we have won games. If there is that concern that he will be targeted every time he gets the ball, what's the use of over protecting him like a young kid who then becomes shy and unwilling to face the world. Give him that chance to prove himself and if needed have some player that can be there on the field to ensure that Reed is not overly rag dolled - but I don't think that that will be necessary.

My views only.

Scott Pryde a fan of the Dragons because of his commitment on Zero Tackle will go and watch the Dragons play Manly next weekend but is reluctant to do so because of how we have been. Many fans are like Scott. Things desperately need changing at the Dragons. We have the new C of E and now its time for new staff and players.

I didn't realise what all the fuss was about in regard to Gutho until yesterday. How slow did he look when he was trying to get across to tackle Purdue? Reminded of Blake Lawrie in previous years.

As for Reed, let me repeat that I'm usually ultra aggressive about promoting young players. But putting Reed in this team after only a handful of NSW Cup games? No, not in favour. Give him half a season in NSW Cup first.

In the beginning, there was a lot of "Dragons' Way" bullshit propaganda. The team would play badly and he would say, "that's not the Dragons' way". Unfortunately, it is the Flanno way. Performance is reality. You are how you play, not what you say.

He is good at self-promotion. Not good at coaching.

Key takeaway: It is foolish to judge coaches on what they say.

Flanagan has apologized so is now owning the blame for our continued under performing. WE are not playing as a unit with only a handful of players bucking that trend every week, Luch, Toby and Hamish. Luch ran a whopping 241m, made 34 tackles, Toby 140/38, Hamish 121/43. And they were in a side that had 30 unanswered points put on them. So where were the rest, where is their contribution. We had only two line busts in 80 mins of footy.

Well I will concede based on how you have put it Eric, but if all goes well with him in many more games in the Cup, then I would agree to see how things are overall and if needed say in July, then use him if he is actually playing well.

Drop CT & promotes Fegai or Tu
Tu not Feagai, had far too many chances. Why did useless SF drop Tu anyway, I figured he must have been injured. He impressed me with his energy and enthusiasm. This is shades of Sione Finau treatment.
They delayed it last week and look at what they got this week.
Yeh Watsford no more bull crap, sack him. He has had two more games than Seibold did, he dont deserve any more.
but the mail is Dean Young
Give him a crack at the top job, he deserves it.

The others were simply not doing their job or not capable of doing anything that benefitted us. What has got into these players? Even though they were just beaten unluckily by the Bulldogs in Vegas, then battled away ok against the Storm, that last 20 minutes against the Storm basically got us to this situation for some reason, which then put us in a negative trend to be beaten by the Eels, Titans and now the Cowboys. Maybe the trip back from Vegas and it being an anti-climax has changed things or something happened over there that riled Flanno and he took it out on several of the players?

Flanno doesn't have the answers. He doesn't know why and will be investigating it. However, it is not a case of why they are not performing and winning it should be a case of how he can get the players to win matches - but I fear that that is now not achievable in my view under his coaching system

Our big 3 signings have all been major failures for the most part. Gutho was good last season, so too Holmes. Cook was good in patches. But 3 year deals for players who were definitely past their best was simply ludicrous and it’s showing right now. They no longer have the energy or passion/drive, and most importantly, physical capabilities they may have had upon arrival to the club, simply because they are far past it.
