I am also saying blaming the coach for teams losing, when they have a poor roster is very short sighted and the coaches are constantly made the scapegoats. But there is a recurring pattern.

I am also saying we are living up to expectations. We have been either favourites or second favourites for the wooden spoon the last 3 years or more. The Gold Coast are also living up to expectations, they were the other favourite or second favourite for the spoon this year. Last year Hasler had forgotten how to coach and was blamed for the Gold Coast going badly. How long is it until Hannay is to blame for the Gold Coast not winning?

Speaking from my own personal experiences the buck stops with the coach. The coach is the face of a club. No matter what previous credentials you had to obtain the job, it means nothing.

If you have had the opportunity to create your team and it fails to perform then the old saying comes to mind, " You are what you create".

Which means your identity, legacy, and reality are shaped by your actions, choices, and creations rather than your circumstances, thoughts, or past experiences.

The one denominator that all coaches are measured on is your win lose ratio. Comparing Flanagan to Hannay or Bennett or the Easter Bunny means nothing.

Its your success on the field which will always dictate your continued viability to remain in your position. End of story.

The word Poisoned Chalice readily comes to mind here. Whoever steps in as an interim coach will still have " the same cattle ".

So what changes? For 1 there will be no extensions to those off contract at the end of this season, that is a no trainer.

Will anyone want to drink from that Poisoned Challice for the rest of 2026 only? Time will tell.

Personally I hope its not Young, if it is then let him drink for 2026 only. He is partly responsible for this mess.

2027 coach, possibles, Hornby, Chieka, Arthurs in no particular order.

I said in another post if Reed can step up to 1sts next season we will have a competitive team from 6 - 13.

Our issues will lie with 1 and 9 in the spine and enticing a couple of speedy backs. Hopefully a well respected new coach can deliver the players we need.

These things are a start ...

But some simple things could start to get us moving in the right direction

1. Last play kicks from the middle out to the egde ... i know i bang on about it, but we give them quick play the balls with numbers in the area the way we play our last ... Kicking at an angle we know gives us one on one changes and if you go up you are a chance of coming down.
2. Contesting kicks - easy one .. we are so focussed on trying to make the first tackle immediately we dont actually try to score .. we would rather get tackle 1 complete inside the 10 and limit their set distance rather than attack. Would work better if we were not so passive/stupid in defence.
3. Play a bit deeper and time our passes better .. we are easy to predict, our pass timing is horrible, we do not look like we could deceive anyone ... PLay a little deeper and pass a little later, try to commit the defence or at least step late into easier collisions.

Some r saying it could be 2 weeks away (the bye after Anzac day), I imagine there is a fair bit to sort out before then.. but whether there is an 'ideal' time to do it I dunno.. I dont think we get any more wins if we sack Flanno tomorrow vs in 2 weeks cause I dont think an interim (assuming Young) will make any difference.. its more just is it easier to do it now and get Flanno out of the equation and everyone can be a bit more open and honest...

Why would we hang onto him any longer, I certainly would not want to be going to Anzac Day with Flanno getting the axe a week later. Its embarrassing enough as it is without really making dicks of ourselves on one of our premier days.

Yeah, I do, just like Hasler, Holbrook, Brennon and Henry all were. They were all scapegoated. I see a recurring pattern, with them and us.

No it is some kind of defence for Flanno. I am pointing out that Hannay has taken a job similar to what Flanno took. That no coach has been able to make the Gold Coast successful in the last 15 years either. I am saying that taking the job at the Gold Coast is similar to taking the job at St George Illawarra. I am saying you can't keep blaming and sacking the coaches and that who ever takes those jobs are more than likely going to fail, get blamed and get sacked sooner or later. If I was an aspiring young coach, I wouldn't have taken the job at the Gold Coast either. They have been unsuccessful long before Hannay took over. You must have missed many of my earlier posts. I have identified a pattern that keeps happening, but am not allowed to discuss it anymore.

If our new coach doesn't have us being successful in another 2 years or so, will you be blaming them? If Hannay doesn't have the Gold Coast being successful in 2 years or so, will it be his team and his fault?

Remember Hunt wanted out before Flanno got here. One of the reasons was because he said promises about recruitment and improving our roster were not kept or met. Our recruitment problem has been here long before Flanno arrived.

We have had 6 captains leave us since the merger "joint venture", including our last 3 before Gutho was made captain.

We have been knocked back by more coaches than any club I can think of.

Here are the facts, some things were not Flanno's fault, other things most definitely were, I'm not going to enter conversation with you with what they were, we are all aware of them. Flanno has no doubt lost the shed, he is immensely under pressure with no answers. No hard feeling, thankyou for your service, lets move on, doing nothing is not an option.

Of course they are, I totally agree with you and you would find 99.9 % of the members on here that are well aware of what our problems are and have been. Unfortunately 99.9% of members on here can do nothing about it except converse on here. ATM the focus is on the coach and for the time being deservedly so, he has reached the end. The other issues well they are pie in the sky for us , and unless your name is Gorden we just have to suck that up. We are not a member owned club like the dogs.

WTF are you talking about? Some of your messages make you look nuking futs. Bennett didn't recruit any big recruits. He turned them into big names. Flanno has done the opposite. Taken quality players like Holmes and turned him into a reserve grade standard centre.

First it was Price's fault, then McGreggor's fault, then Griffin's fault and now it is Flanno's fault and the cycle continues. Whoever gets the job next, in 2 or 3 years time. The same thing applies to Henry, Brennon, Holbrook and then Hasler and in 2 or 3 years time the same thing will probably apply to Hannay.

I actually think Bennett got lucky and then got out as quick as he could. Before Bennett came here, we usually had a very good roster. Ever since he left, we only had a very good roster in 2018.

He was almost crying. It looks like abuse at this point. Like they are playing some kind of game of chicken. The club is going to keep tormenting him until he resigns and he is going to stick around until the club fires him and gives him a payout.
