Just wondering anybody in the know if the Dragons has offered that magical $1 mill a year to Drinkwater? Got a feeling that a club like the Sharks will sneak in and sign him for less because of their chances of playing finals looking better than us. Remember AFB and what happened to him when we looked home and hosed to sign him?

Not going to lie of course it is however when you're struggling like we are atm you have tom overpay to bring quality player like Drinky

honestly depends on what is above and what is below the line ...
If it is on cap at 600k and third parties/club 17 etc are coming up with the balance then its a great deal
If it is all on cap at 1M with no third parties then it is an overspend that will cause problems esp given Nuffo.

Im sure we could handle the cap for the 1 year that Gutho is there, its not like the rebuild will be done within 1 year, its a process where we take a hit here and there but will benefit the year after contract ends, its the mess we are in and there is no immediate quick fix for the roster, also getting in some cheaper players on 1 year deals, will be required as well to compensate where we have overspent..

Been killing it for a couple of weeks. Last game he ran a lazy 250m and almost 80pcm and made a late break a three quarter would be proud of. Not much is said about his defense, but he usually nails his man by crunching or smothering him.

Amazing hey! Purdue 750,000 to fullback and say goodbye to Drinkwater and receive 1m for3 years at Dragons. .......If players can break their contracts fairly easy these days. Then give me McLean at fullback for 1m over 6 years and Sharpe at five eighth for 1m over 6 years and Reed at 7 there is our backline sorted. And the money is there to do this after we let a few go.

It’s funny seeing some of the discourse around us signing Drinkwater from rival Clubs fans atm, $1m a year for Drinkwater is an overpay but I don’t think it’s a scandalous overpay for the worst team in the league needing an elite attacking spine member
They’ll say what a bad signing it is then not have an alternative besides Bula who will almost certainly be staying with the tigers next year
We’ve got enough good young forwards on smaller contracts to accomodate big money in the spine
The dead cap hit next year on Gutho is a killer but thankfully we have a lot of dross leaving the club at the end of the season so there is a fair bit of scope for change in the roster if required
