Round 11 v Panthers Sunday

some of those other clubs like tigers/knights/dolphins/cows more or less just fell into the right squads for the new game.

Tigers have played this game for years and it suits them but look how quickly it turns to mud with a few injuries.

We've had 106 points scored against us in last 2 games, Tigers have had 96.
Just another example of how shit the game now is.

If we're talking the penrith game, seems unlikely Suli will play? They did say 3 weeks, so im not sure where that leaves us if Suli, Holmes and Val are all unavailable to play centre.. Lawson and Buchanan perhaps.. or maybe they throw one of the 2nd rowers there.. rly not sure what else we can do.

Wow news to me, it looked like just a strain to me not an impact injury.

Having watched Hayden closely in cup the last few games, I think he actually does have something unique. It's just not being utilised properly. I'll try to explain.

Hayden has one of those running styles where he has shorter strides but can accelerate quite quickly and change direction on a 10-cent piece. He is very elusive. He is also a relatively smaller player. With that running style that he has - short, powerful strides, footwork before the line on most yardage carries is unnecessary. At present, Hayden just jumps, puts on a half step and goes into the defence. This doesn't work very well for him. Just get the legs pumping and run between two blokes, and you are far harder to put down. Though he is nowhere near as talented as Hayden, I observed that this approach actually worked much better for Charlie Staines when he was a regular starter at Penrith, who went from 25pcm per game to 60-80pcm, just through pure acceleration into the defensive line.

In my opinion, footwork before the line is for bigger blokes who are easier to chop down (hence the need for footwork). Some (but obviously not all) of the time, this doesn't work for smaller dudes.

Thoughts?

Good appraisal KW, if you think about everything you mentioned it suites the FB's of today running around. Maybe give him a shot there.

Ive noticed most of our players often do this little jump just before they reach the defence, and i cant understand why. It just makes them easy pickings for the defence.
Btw, i agree with hayden being selected. I thought he played very well in our last win!

I didn't normally do a team list because basically I don't pick the team but here's my shot and a few points

Gutho
Ty
Moses
Hayden
CT
Atko
Kade

Toby
Cook
Hame
Luch
Dyl

Kyle
Loko
Ryan
Jake

Val can sit out until he 100% fit and fast, plus he doesn't deserve a trip home.
Maybe he can go to FB and Gutho bench

Ty back outside Moses where he scored 17 tries last year.

Some say Hayden is too small and can't break the line but I think he's elusive and can create. Ty and Hayden maybe get us some points

CT 90 meters in 25 min better than Gutho Val Mat, Ty 100 Tu 115 full game.

Atko hopefully he finds that something he had in first few games, remember that pass.

Hame he has line speed can that help with our attack and Guler offers nothing

Kyle defence that's all.
Ryan
Loko offers more than Kerr
Jake

Unsure what we do when Sua is back but I think we need Luch for attack so maybe they both share edge middle.
In all seriousness, you would make a half decent selector. Why not throw your hat in the ring?

My only question is should we allow Reed to develop more especially his defence in ressies?

Is O'Neil available to play in 1sts, I was impressed with him and his combination with Tyler Pecham- Harris against the Knights

To develop his game.
Thats exactly my point. To develop players first and foremost you need a coach with a good eye, secondly you need a decent set of teamates, thirdly you have to have a winning culture and mindset within your playing group.

Do we have 1, 2 or 3 at the moment? Not in my view. I believe that this kid could be our starting 7 for many years to come but he needs work on his defence and half the battle in today's game is your mental toughness. I know its not going to be a popular view but it is the way I see it.

Develop his game in an environment where it's hard, not easy for him.

Totally agree, Jo. Look at Dearden at the Broncos around 2020. Everyone thought he was overrated, would amount to nothing, the usual. Same with Tanah Boyd for years at the Titans. Chuck those same players into teams that were better (at least NQ was doing sorta OK at the time), and look at the result. They have changed drastically. It is literally impossible for a half to do anything with a useless backline.
