While growing up at school we found out one of our teachers was a big gambler, we used to play this song every lesson on the classroom cassette player
As soon as i saw this article thought about it straight away

kids are so cruel! i've never heard that song before either...

How much do the top referees earn anyway ? There seem to be a lot of odd decisions especially from the bunker. Saints make all their money by betting on themselves to lose…

If this is true how on earth can he be allowed to referee in the NRL? I know it may be betting on horses or whatever but it is not a good look for the game. It will certainly focus attention on any questionable decisions that he makes.

Definitely Runner. It's his word and who knows, he might have had many bets in the past on league matches. He loves to give 6 agains I have noticed.

I will be really wary of him now when he referees games, especially our games.

I don't look at the refs carefully for the most part but I thought this guy was pretty good. They all love 6-agains but I thought he might give them less.

I think the top refs earn more than 330K.

What sort of safeguards are there to ensure they are not betting on outcomes of NRL matches ?
Exactly. Do refs have a favourite club that they have followed before being refs and even now. I know that Greg Hartley was an avid Bulldogs supporter. I think that these refs should advise if they have a favourite club and, for example, if say one is a Dragons fan, he should not ref our games.

Grant Atkins either loves the Dragons so goes out of his way to compensate. As if to go out of his way to show he's professional and doesn't play favourites or he hates the Dragons and is very unprofessional.

Who doesn't like a punt and a cold one every Saturday? As long as he wasn't betting on the outcome of any League games that's all I care about.

In saying that if the circumstances revealed he was indebted to a SP Bookie or loan shark as a result of his gambling then thats an entirely different scenario.

Whilst I know that this is an Ash Klein thread, I just want to highlight how refs can make decisions to determine the outcome of games. At the time of the moment I am wanting to talk about, it was earlyish into the game but in the end it did determine the result. The incident involved yesterday's game between the Warriors and the Sharks.

Here is a report from Foxsports on the incident and what Andrew Webster said during the post game interview.

What an absolute disgrace as far as I am concerned. Tevita-Harris asked Gerard Sutton the ref how much time did he have left to kick the ball because he could not see the time on the screen as there was an ad on - (effin ads - they are everywhere). Sutton replied 5 seconds then 2 seconds later the buzzer went and as such Sutton awarded the Sharks a penalty right in front because Tevita Harris violated the time. Both Tevita-Harris and captain Egan questioned Sutton and blah, blah....
