Experience means nothing tbf

Young’s resumé is gash but he talks a good game and is stoic so he gets praised

Hornby Resumé isn’t great but I’d feel better if he get the job because it’s not the ‘safe’ and ‘lazy’ pick

What are the odds the coach to get us back to the promised land happened to be right under our nose in young who we had in house and didn’t have to cast a wide ranging net to find?

At least if young gets the job it’s black or white - succeed and we all eat crow or fail and we say told you so stop with the boys club nonsense

Seems to be a big push in the media for Dean Young. They mention his winning 2 from 9 in passing but highlight how much the players supposedly love him. If the players love him so much, he must be an even worse coach than we imagine because the players are playing for him but his tactics, selection and use of the bench is so clueless the team is still a rabble.

Obviously they understandably weren't playing for Flanno.

1. Media a inbred sluts that push friends/flavour of the month ... they are in the in crowd in clubs and seek to continue close relationships - they wont be controversial. They know who the third applicant is but are deliberately supressing the name to keep the happiness status quo on par
2. Dean Young's birthright is to coach the dragons, do not stand in the way of this.

Wow, experience means nothing?

Based on my own personal experiences, you are right experience in itself won't necessarily get you a promotion or the job.

You can't simply rely on the fact that you have been doing coaching jobs for any number of yrs, more than your opponent. It is the way you portray that experience.

During any of my interviews experience was acknowledged but the majority of the time I was asked how my experience has improved me or the club/teams.

Leadership, communication, influence all important factors but the most important question was, can I show how my experience showed any measurable achievements, examples of how I made improvements and initiated success.

So to dismiss a person's experience as being inconsequential I must disagree.

In my view I have seen no improvement over the years by Young during his tenures as assistant coach or interim head coach.

I am sure he is a likeable fellow and players love him but that in itself doesn't mean he is going to be a success.

History shows we have had little luck with previous players who become our head coach. "Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

i think the biggest risk with Young as a HC is the absolute need for a decent attacking coach and with that the humilty from young to listen to and give that coach control over our attack. Young is doing a lot of things right esp with respect to player buy in and attitude. Defence in the middle third is actually quite good but defence outside our edge forwards is problematic and a lot of that is cattle as well as coaching.

I dont get the sense from young that he is humble enough to delegate what he doesnt do well to others.

Griffin and Flanno had so much experience but someone like Peter Wallace hardly had any experience as an assistant before he became head coach. Hannay at the Titans seems to be turning them around as well. Slowly but surely. Same can't be said for Dean Young at the Dragons.

Need to find assistant coaches who can compliment Young. He seems to be a good man manager but history shows he's tactically poor. Willie Talau seems to be good tactically, he could cover defence & someone else can come in for attack or vice versa. Everyone has their strengths & weaknesses, complimenting them to form a good coaching unit is key imo.

Ditto with the team, we've got good middles but getting KK & keeping guys like LPT & Halangahu who bend the line compliment the athleticism & work rate of the couchmens, stewart & egan. Having outside backs who have speed & creativity can compliment the likes of power athletes in Suli etc.

99% confirmed it'll be Young from the players answers, actions from the board & media information. We now need to focus on getting the right assistant coaches imo. I hope Talau stays on, I think he's very important, especially since he has the ear of the younger players & knows our NSW cup players too. That information is valuable, especially with team selections & positions.

There is evidently a third Head Coach candidate that is a bit of mystery. ZT is throwing round some names, Trent Barret, Jason Demetriou, Ben T'eo. No Michael Cheika.
I like the idea of Ben Teo. Much more than DY, Hornby, Barrett, Demetriou. If they haven't even given Cheika an interview, it would suggest they decided on DY long ago and are just trying to create the illusion they are searching for the best candidate.

surely not

Is it fair to say that nobody decent wants to coach us or more importantly has the inside knowledge that applying would be a waste of their time.

Seriously if all we can conjure up is Young, Hornby and Barrett its sad

Trent Barrett lol, he’s the very definition of assistant coach material.

Not cut out for the top job, nice to see we’ve narrowed down our HC search with our ‘net cast far and wide’ to three beloved former players

Shameful stuff
X2 ........ I'll be surprised if Young doesn't get it ......... Just me , he was always going to get the job ........ I for one want someone that has not been involved with the club , so if it's out of Young and Hornby , id rather Hornby at least he has been away from the joint for a while ......

Try and get Barrett as the attacking coach, been successful at Broncos and Panthers
