Title needs a rewrite. I get that it's meant to be a bit pathetic, but it's too confusing. Are we saying it to the dragon? Or is it death to the day itself, ie dragons day. Or are the lads - the dragons day lads - experiencing a happy death?

Y'know outside of this echo chamber filled with grumpy old men, there's nowhere near this level of pessimism.

One of the biggest reasons given across the media for Young being favourite for the job is that the playing group really want to play for him and are putting in during the game.

Although I'm not going to argue with the importance of this, I don't understand what else would be expected. As a player when a new coach takes over and is likely to get the job permanently as is the case here, it is normal and expected for the players to say good things about him and work hard, knowing that he will be making decisions about their careers very soon. There's always a honeymoon period.

The real test comes when he's been in position for a while, and results don't improve, and the recriminations and back-biting starts. Whether the coach can carry the team with him in times of adversity, this is yet to be tested. When he has to start dropping players who thought they were shoe-ins, when contract negotiations start and players don't get what they want, when young players think they're ready but the coach knows they're not, when players need to be asked to move on. This is a real leadership skill and Young has not been in these positions yet so I will reserve my judgement and not get carried away every time someone tells me how much the players love him.

True. But it's also true of every candidate on this poll aside from perhaps Cheika, and he's only done it in rugby union. *

You mentioned Arthur, Zen and some one else Carr a few posts back. Carr's Castleford Tigers team finished on top of Arthur's Leeds Rhinos team on the weekend - 36-34 in a great game. Leeds leads the comp while the Tigers are coming 10th. I think that both Arthur and Carr are superior coaches to Young. Young wants to be in Australia and not feel homesick if he was to coach in the Super League which I think he definitely should have after leaving the Cowboys instead of being the assistant to Flanno. Too bad about Arthur, yet I doubt he was even contacted about the job - mostly has been media and fans mentioning his name. This is what pisses me off because so far they have not been transparent as to who they have chased or put into the hat and in the end we still won't.

Getting players to give 100% is the easy part of coaching, especially when they believe in you, wait till they start doubting you.
Next cutting errors, that just goes hand in hand with play simple footy.

The hard part is team structure, attack game plans and bench use, haven't seen any signs of this.

Playing with heart and effort keeps us in the games it doesn't win games.

We might push for the 8 next year and everyone will be happy, that's the standard the club has set.

Probably some fans who don't follow that closely don't mind Dean, or are guided by the media outlets which have been pushing him for ages now.

Personally gutted we still havent learnt our lesson.. even after finally reaching rock bottom this year.. obviously disclaimer that I hope we are wrong..

I actually heard someone talking about the Tigers during the week and it resonated with me.. that the club was supremely confident.. if they could just get Luai into the club he would fall in love with the club and want to stay.. now most people can see that is unlikely to happen at that club in particular.. but the Tigers dont see that.. and its because they don't realise how others see them.. they only see things from the inside, via their own lens.. and its exactly how the Dragons got to where they are now.. too many living inside the echo chamber.. the same 4-walls.. atleast Watsford is 1 voice from beyond it... but every year he's here he becomes part of the establishment himself.

If Young is picked, it would be good to hear/read from Watsford why is it so - as Professor Julius Sumner Miller would say. They make this decision and it goes pear shaped, we as a club will be really down the test tube. The chance to add to an "improved" squad, new C of E inclusive of more or less everything the players and coaches need, etc., the recruitment of a high flying head coach you would think would be top priority. Selecting Young on how the players talk of him as happy that he is coaching them is not the best yardstick to measure how successful we will end up. We sail along a bit then we reach dead calm and drift and meander along as in the past. Due Diligence please - look beyond taking the easiest route and try much harder to get a much better accredited person who can bring us success continuously year in and out.
