Dean young

That would be a great hire. Dolphins attack is the best to watch in the league. Wonder if he will bring his son back with him if it happens
I remember him in the GF. Scored that late try to seal it.

He's obviously done well at the Dolphins but we'll have Ben Creagh as general manager of football, Dean Young as head coach and now Nathan Fien as assistant? Old Boys still running things for their own benefit?

There is a difference between local bloke who has demonstrated not much being promoted beyond his capacity with no due process and a bloke who came to the club as a player late, fulfilled a role, moved on, took up coaching, rose to a decent level and was recruited to the club with familiaral connections.

was thinking we would likely have the assistants sorted in the next month before pre-season kicks off.... first vie heard of Fien even being an assistant NRL coach.. but im happy they are looking around.. dunno what effect hes had on the Dolphins but theyve been killing it obviously... tbf its a killer roster also.

That was my first thought is their weapons are unbelievably good and their is strike everywhere lead by Katoa who’s a top 3 halfback in the comp

Interesting to see how Fien does, especially from the POV of playing in the middle in his career he would have ideas about opening teams up through the middle and attacking from dummy half potentially

Watched Deano for an hour on James Graham's podcast. Have to say he is a humble great guy who absolutely loves the young guys and his Dragons.
Nothing too insightful here that we dont know, but he handled every question very well and there is a real passion from him.
I really hope for all of us it comes off next year.

He didn’t really say anything interesting like you said just a very casual chat about what it means to him but no inside information was hoping for some dirt lol

A couple of things

1. hinted that the AC has a specific role in the overall scheme of things but the head coach still makes the final calls .. reading between the lines on that there were differences of opinion between Young/Flano at times.
2. culture culture culture seems big .. also the assistant coaches in the last half of the year were focussed mainly on the pack and defence. That makes sense as it was the area of the team that is going to be there this and next - the attack will be different given the massive changes in the spine but in terms of Eisenhuth etc it was all about the middles and the edge forwards - this definately improved.

Was more an informal chat than an all holds barred interview - i didnt mind it. Hope that Fien comes off for a few reasons, Kodi the main one and how he forged a partnership with the younger developing Katoa.

The big difference in an interview like that and a flano one - Flano wouldnt shut up about 2016, Dean was downplaying 2010.

Thanks for your account of that Young interview Rufus. If we can get Fien we will be winning many more games with many great tries I'd say.
Glad we don't have Flanno anymore.

He also mentioned assistant COACH not Coaches… maybe I’m reading too much into it. Don’t think anyone has ever had one assistant?
