Recruitment & Retention 2027

[Xuiz]

Haven’t seen him play much

Anyone who’s seen him, who’s he compare to?

Farah? Grant? Cook?

His defence is great and he provides good service, needs to work on his creativity and running game

Closest comparison in the NRL would be Mitch Kenny

There is also the fact most or all clubs start the season with at least one top 30 spot free. The guy with the least to offer is Kyle Flanagan. Need to take off the kid gloves with him. Everyone knows, not least Kyle himself, he wasn't signed or extended on merit. We need that extra spot in the roster! What is he going to do next year? Back up halves will be Reed and LKT. After that will be Hodges and Atkinson. WE NEED HIS SPOT IN THE ROSTER OPEN! GET HIM OUT OF THERE!

Rant over.

[RufusRex]

WE NEED HIS SPOT IN THE ROSTER OPEN! GET HIM OUT OF THERE!

Nope - we have 2 spots in the roster ... We dont need his spot ... We need his cap money - the clown is on over 600k

We cannot afford mid tier players to come in and boost the squad because of deals like that.
However because no other club will pick him up we are stuck with his 600k+ on the cap

we cannot simply cut him and get an immediate benefit to our squad/recruitment posture.

correct ... you need to have 24 by Nov 1 (check), 28 by round 1 (check) and 30 by June 30.

Yes. Need one of the 28 free to promote someone who might be some use to first grade, or even to reserve grade. Can't see how that person will be useful to either.

[GCRV]

Just not sure which other forwards we're finding at this stage. I think Ryan Hutchinson deserves a crack but at this stage what other forward options do we have? I do also think Kerr is unfortunately must-keep by virtue of your point, though.

It seems they were being 100% honest when they say they are happy for Kerr to finish his contract or leave a year early.

Metcalf drinky Setu and burton all on field at Bruce Gordon Burton and Setu were catching Metcalf bombs it’s all happening

Hope the hammy survived

[Justadragon]

Yeah very cool if Drinky and Metcalf are already hanging out there, and I noticed Jake Webster on instagram hitting the gym at the Bruce Gordon Centre. I doubt this would've happened in prior years down at the Mary McGregor painted gym

As long as finishing wooden spooners this year burns deeply, and are planning for it to never happen again, or at least for the next few years.

[GCRV]

If the club has money but misses out on Bostock, Matt Burton would be a good recruit to play centre.

[Dragons faithful]

Had the sg and and Matt’s sides been announced yet?

Young hooker Lachlan Coinakis signed from Parramatta.

Was a schoolboy in 2024 alongside Halangahu

Interesting signing, he had dropped down the order at Eels, from starting Flegg hooker to bench.

Still had a year on his contact so Eels were happy to release him.
Would say its a Pathways signing only.

So, Sloan is now actually going to Super League, after all. Good luck and all the best Tyrell - you should kill it over there with the Castleford Tigers.

Tyrell Sloan makes final contract decision

It was questioned whether his move to the Super League would eventuate after the coach's dramatic exit.

Sitting on the fence with this one Dave, so much talent and wasted so many opportunities until it was to late. you never know he could come back in a couple of years.

Ty was officially going to ESL in July when he signed a contract.
Everything since has been rumour and speculation, never once has he said he was not going.

Just wish him all the best. Deep down he did want to stay. But that's life.
