Recruitment and Retention 2028

A big upgrade for sure but still a better winger than centre. He played really well in Origin on the wing as well. He runs hard like Lomax and has a pretty good passing game like Lomax and is good in the air like Lomax. As far as beating players one on one with footwork and speed like Farnworth and McClean do, I haven't seen it. Not saying it doesn't happen, just saying I haven't seen it.
It does happen, saw him carve up the Storm for a try i think it was one night. But anyway, he's only played 16 games of NRL so far at centre (coming off a knee reconstruction no less), and you're comparing him to two experienced centres who happen to be in the top 2 or 3 for the position in the world. He beat them both for try assists this year btw, from fewer games. Pretty key stat for a centre, I'd have thought.

Beyond harsh to dismiss him so casually.

Signing Bostock would be a coup but he'll cost a lot. I continue to believe our centres in 2028 will be Heidke and Burton. I'm probably overoptimistic but anyway. I've always been super-enthusiastic about our lower graders even when it isn't warranted.

I'm just going to trust DA. If he thinks the club can afford close to or a million a year for Bostock, I'll go with that.

If he is going to leave the Dolphins, there is no indication he'd choose us rather than Perth or PNG or even existing teams with a lot of cap space like Gold Coast and Parramatta.

To dismiss him casually? What are you talking about? Lomax was the NSW and Australian winger when he went to rugby. I said Bostock is a big upgrade on that. If that equals, "dismissing casually", what would you call rating someone? Kneeling down and praying before his image?

With November 1 looming - it will be interesting to see who the Dragons could look at signing for 2028 and beyond. One guy that would be great to have return to the Dragons is of course Jack Bostock. If he doesn't commit to the Dolphins by Nov 1 he will be go on the open market to test his value and any club chasing him will have to make a really decent offer to secure his services now that his value has gone way up after playing Origin and now for Australia in the World Cup. Any offer will be subject to the Dolphins being given the chance to counter any offers in the cooling off period.

If Bostock goes onto the open market I sincerely hope that Anderson chases him and corners him to make a deal to come back to us - he is the guy that will be our new Mark Gasnier if he does come.

another brilliant play by his manager in nailing the Phins to the wall.

Roosters are apparently going to sign Stefano Utoikamanu. I hope they do. He's really overrated. That might leave the way open for us to snare Bostock if it means as a result of signing Stefano Utoikamanu and extending Sam Walker, they can't afford Herbie Farnworth who stays at the Dolphins.

The story Bostock has apparently told dolphins he isn’t staying past 2027 is pretty good for the dragons imo.

If he knows he wants to come home why would he say that to the dolphins just to move to parra or Newcastle

I do think it’s all starting to align with Bostock coming home, 850k a year is an overpay
If they got that down to 750 I’d be happy with it although if it gets across the line at 850 it’s obviously not the end of the world

If he is a quality centre with the new cap in 2028 then 850k can be stomached

Genuinely feels like our R&R is top class atm, at least since Anderson settled in

There’s no real panic buys or bizarre signings/retentions

I like the little gamble on Coinakis from Parra + would love to see more low risk, high reward punts like that

some of the young guys pushing through that have been signed instead of going elsewhere (bar Chapman/Ah Kee which kills me) look really promising and in positions of need as well

Think in that aspect Anderson/the club deserve credit, very interested to see how the recruitment of forwards does at pathways level with the first grade side virtually roadblocked by all the young guns

Yeah I tend to agree, but I cant help but think the Dolphins losing both Farnworth and Bostock would be a disaster for them. We would go off our nut if that happened at the Dragons.

I like Jack he's a good player and I'd like to see him back.

The media and forum talk and hype seems OTT for me.
I can't remember a winger signing getting this much publicity and chat

He's a good winger may even be a great winger . He is an unproven centre and FB so at this stage he is just a good rep winger
