Round 13 v Newcastle

Is that part of his job description tho Jd. Has he been given a license by coach to go looking for the pill, like he did when at the back. He has to be told now as he is half the player when he stays stuck on the wing. Looks frustrated, like a dog being held back from a big bone.
Yeah I dont know what to make of him RVH, it should be an interesting selection next week with CT back.

Tale of two halves that, so good first half and then lacklustre in the 2nd

JDB/Couchman/Stewart/Klemmer all really good

Holmes/Sloan/Luciano disappointing and LKT first half meh 2nd half much better

Most important thing was the result and defende for 65 mins was really good

Hated our last 15, the retreating defence towards the end of games is awful to watch

Ita basically us waving the white flag and giving away all the field position
To my eye the 2nd half was one of consolidating and protecting their lead keeping in mind possession at ht was
62 - 38% and it was always going to even up ended 54 - 46%. Completion rate was 84% at ht, dropping to 77% .

We were never in danger of losing that one so it was good to see we defended and managed the game as to not open the door to them. We only missed 20 tackles that's very good. That has been the big improvement on last year we are 50% better in that area.

I still believe we will finish 8th as long as we keep playing consistently especially in this season of crazy upsets.

He is playing as if he has been told in the backrooms that he is no longer wanted very disinterested and dissolutioned

Pretty clear decision for me, CT will absolutely walk back into the left wing so it was always a play off between these 2 and Lawson certainly won that battle.

Great win and great to see Loko get his first tonight, hope to see plenty more from the big unit.

Yeah I dont know what to make of him RVH,
Moving him to the wing has killed much of his attacking skill set mate. He is an eyes up guy who likes creating so needs the ball in his hands. Now that he is basicly only a try finisher with defensive frailties people want to move him on, probably justified too. His coach has not helped him either by not backing him to stay and keep learning to become the long term team custodian. Imho there were clear signs of improvement in most parts of his game, even defensive attitude, before his move to the flank. Jo and I say he now looks disinterested, disillusioned and frustrated, not the correct attitude to have for FG footy.

Thats true but if you watch the replay you can clearly see Lawson came in looking for the ball whereas Sloan didn't. The final stats:
Sloan - 10 runs for 90m
Lawson - 17 runs for 180m which is very impressive in his 1st game.

The kid is going to make it in 1st grade to my old coaches eyes. Very grounded, learning his job every week, just needs to increase his stamina and get more minutes out of him as the season continues.

  • High-Completion is really all I ask for, we will win our share of games when we play like we did today, and defend well
  • Klemmer is starting to be the guy I was hoping for.. we need that 2nd guy to match JDB and doing longer minutes is essential with all our injuries
  • Lets see what Sua's injury is, thats the 2nd serious 2nd rower injury in opening minutes, and we still won.. wouldnt have happened last year.. Id like to see Nickt as right 2nd rower next week, but this is why im not happy with him playing centre.. because he hasnt been training for exactly this situation.
  • Lawson had a great debut.. more class and skill than our other options, but hes still very dicey under pressure, I think Val closed down a lot of situations tonight that might have led to drama for him.. its why im very nervous about him playing outside Suli if he switches to the right.. but it is what it is.
  • Would love some bomb catchers, god were missing Lomax, we had no answer for Hunt tonight.. none.. thankfully Newcastle were ordinary otherwise.
  • Sloan is Sloan, I just wish he would atleast finish a few more tries, not sure how he missed that one tonight, plus that offload with 2mins to go, craziness. Between him and Vals missed try.. we score those two and its 30-6 or something.. and its dominant.
  • Val is rocks and diamonds as ive said before, mostly diamonds though.. hes our only real x-factor as a runner dont get me wrong, but gosh he has some unforced errors in him, not sure where that comes from.. glad he kicked all his goals tonight though.
  • Kyle's defence was superb tonight, they ran the untouchable Fletcher Sharpe at him all night and he hit him hard and solid every time.
  • LKT had a good 2nd half.. though I still dont quite understand some of the mad love for his performances, but I am glad he made his tackles thats the baseline we need from our halves, but he also put a total of 0 points on for us.. its good that hes challenging the line, but for me he has to keep growing each week... hes not there yet.. hes a work in progress and we need to see what his ceiling is. I will say kicking to the ingoal is my last preference also.. we dont have aerial catchers (for dropouts).. I mean maybe tonight that was the only option...not trying to be too critical, just mentioning that id probably rather roll the dice and go for a try on 5th.
  • We needed that win and we got it, thank god! Honestly this and the Broncos game has taken us off the bottom of the table and given us a nice little buffer.. definitely reduces pressure on us.. and maybe Flanno can pull a gun before June 30... Good night, esp with nsw cup also!

Watching on Fox with cameras on the field after the game. Illias, Egan, BMM, Ryan all out on the field congratulating the boys. Lachie went straight to LKT. Some good team culture building me hopes.
I saw that as well, it's something we haven't had for many years. We are heading in the right direction which may help us recruit a better quality of players

I believe that you would have made a very good assistant coach to me. 😆

I agree with everything you have said. You have an excellent understanding of the game and what the individual players jobs are.I enjoy reading your educated posts. Thank you

Everything except, "good night". The night has just started.
  • Lawson good, Sloan no good.
  • Nothing else stands out except Newcastle is a rabble.
  • One more thing, Couchmans are better in the middle than on an edge.

Love it Rev and agree with most of it as usual, really enjoy your summaries mate.

- Hoping that Suas injury is just the low grade they think, even then I do think itll be a week or 2 for those kinds of injuries so potentially could see another young fella getting ready to suit up as it seems pretty clear they dont want Luch playing 80 (which i agree with).
- Unfortunately for Sloan I just dont think hes done enough to hold his spot with CT back, maybe carving up ressies for a couple weeks will get him some confidence up cause he just didnt look interested tonight. Lawson on the other hand a very solid debut looking forward to see him on his more natural side.
- Also glad you mentioned Kyles defence cause it really was outstanding, wasnt just Sharpe they were running at him either he made some huge tackles on Lucas as well whos been in outstanding form of late so was really impressed with that edge. That was the danger zone for me going into this game but they absolutely nailed their job, plus was nice to see Toby moving a bit more freely without all the strapping.
