Recruitment and Retention for 2026

The Sloan timing is interesting with less than a week till June 30.. but I dont think another NRL club would pick him up for 18mths, or even 12mths, not @500k.. I think his future is in the Super League, its just a question of whether he is ready to accept that.. I hope he is, cause we dont want this to linger into next year like Ravalawa did.

St George Illawarra tryscorer Tyrell Sloan is free to explore his future at a rival club despite being contracted with the Red V until the end of 2026.

Sloan’s manager George Mimis is believed to have met with new Dragons CEO Tim Watsford on Tuesday where it was determined by the club that the 23-year-old would be granted permission to speak with rival clubs.

It’s understood the decision is unrelated to any interest that the club may have in Broncos Selwyn Cobbo
Shame he hasn't been able to live up to expectations but this is obviously the right move.

Biggest thing I've noticed in the last few years is who we thought was a star junior, has been superseded very quickly by the new breed of Steelers Jr + Dragons external recruits... I never had faith in Sloan, but I could have sworn some of those other guys in his era... the Corics, or the Stewarts or the Amone/Sullivans, or Pereira or even last years Tuitavake was pretty awesome.. or maybe Ward or Quinn as our best up and coming halves... even BRumble destroyed it through the Flegg years.... but its a sliding scale.... and when 3or4 quality players r competing for 1 position.. only the best of the best of the best makes it through.. iron forges iron.

Field was forced out with competition (guys like Sailor and Dufty, plus Sloan/Stewart were about to come thru SG Ball), but Sloan & Dufty should never have skipped reserve grade.. they would have been found out before impacting us @NRL level... and they only got those opportunities because we had noone else in the system to beat out for the jersey... compounded by Ramsey getting sick... it's something that is fixed the stronger your pathways are..

Sloan hopefully will go to the UK (rather than another NRL club), it should be a much happier place for him,,, though I still think people over-estimate his ability to create line-breaks... compared to Field who has the footwork, and Dufty has the mad acceleration, thats their thing, Sloan is more open-paddock stuff, but I just think the game there will be more open and he will find his groove.. get that big fend going regularly... and less stress/spotlight too.

What is the latest re Cobbo. Coming or not? Do keep us in the loop BOD.
The Dragons giving local junior Tyrell Sloan permission to negotiate with rival clubs is an indictment on the the clubs ability to unearth and develop talent from one of the games biggest nurseries.

How bloody true Fox League. Like to know how many local juniors, from both nurseries we have jettisoned over past 5 years.

Flanno's regime has turned into a surrealistic nightmare.
A bloody train wreck mate. I am beginning to detest this coach, prob more than any past ones. Jack had two years in him Flanagan, you didnt even offer him one. There goes our consistently best player week in week out and with it a mans dream to be a one club player.

Fans will complain but those same fans would complain if we signed him for 2 years.
He wanted 2 we offered 1 he took 2 elsewhere, end of story.
Exactly what I said elsewhere ahh the ' fair weather supporters' coming out of the woodwork everywhere with their own take of what has happened of course with no actual knowledge

Look is it a shame after all these years wearing the big red v, of course it is but it's mutual agreement Eels believe they can get 2 more years out of him we didn't
According to the media, Eels offered him 1 year with a 1 year option in the clubs favour.

I'm not even against it due to his age but who is the middle rotation going to consist of next year?

Wait for the outrage if he goes before June 30.
Well the facts are that they can actually accommodate him under their salary cap so it wouldn't surprise me. Whether the club is willing to release him especially with the 2 end of season injuries to our youngsters Couchman and Egan would surprise me if they did unless we have someone in the background

I guess Parra r entitled to ask re: June 30, but Flanno needs wins man, would have to be someone very good offered in replacement cause we can not afford to lose our best middle for the rest of the season... meanwhile Toby is in the 2nd row ffs.
