Recruitment and Retention for 2026

Reading that Souths have revised their offer to keep KK at their club has me thinking that this will be the finale of the will he or won't he saga. This revised offer in my opinion means that KK, after receiving great offers from the Dragons, Eels and possibly Roosters, has approached the Bunnies and given them the mandatory 10 days to make a better counter-offer before he can sign with the "best" rival deal. Well now we know that Souths have made that counter offer but I am wondering if the counter offer has to be better than the one he has received from the rival club or is it that it just has to be better than the one Souths originally offered him? What I have read is that Souths has bettered the term from their first offer of 3 years to 4 years with no mention of money. Is this then deemed the better counter offer?

At this stage there has not been any formal confirmation that he has or hasn't agreed to stay at the Bunnies but I'd say it is just around the corner and it could still be with the Dragons (if Damien Cook has his way like he got Ilas to join the Dragons. Cook apparently has been in KK's ears about coming to the Dragons).

To me he has used us to get that better deal with the Bunnies. His heart is with them. Prefer that if he is just after the money and better term, best he stay with the Bunnies. His heart needs to be wanting to win games for us and I don't think that he will have that feeling for 5 years..
Souths still look like the frontrunners to secure KK. If their revised offer is indeed the best and final one, and KK finds it acceptable, I’d expect him to commit quickly. The longer this drags on without confirmation, though, the more the balance shifts, with Souths’ chances diminishing while the Dragons’ prospects improving.

I've got a feeling (Toyota) that KK will officially be announced as being signed by a club on Christmas Eve, giving that club a great Chrissie pressie.

Hopefully not Ryan otherwise he wouldn't continue to train there. Those lower grade sides seem really happy with what is going on. We dont know it could be something totally personal. The kid may just need space for a while.
I hope not as well. Just wondering what it could be. If he was having personal issues away from football, I'd think he would try to bury himself in football. Better he is having trouble getting along with some players and/or coaches than have serious mental health issues.

I would guess he heard the offers from SGI and Parramatta, went back to Souths and said, "This is what you need to pay to keep me." And that was how Souths revised offer came about. He'll be announced for them any day.

Well they are entitled to do that and his manager wouldnt be doing the right thing if he didn't try every trick in the book.I'm in 2 minds about this cooling off period. If a club wasn't willing to have the best offer in the first place why should they be allowed to have a second dig. Just my opinion though , I suppose it might work for us one day.

If it was football related I think more people would know, but if its personal I'd rather not know.

I thought it might be something more simple. Like he got into his first NRL pre-season, as opposed to lower grades and found it really hard and wasn't sure if he wanted to continue.

Probably not. It's much more common for very talented players to just not put the effort required in and either cop multiple sprays from coaches or just fade away from the scene. Often without ever playing first grade. That is for schoolboys who join clubs after year 12.

Daniel Atkinson (Dragons)

The Dragons have struggled in the halves since Gareth Widdop and Ben Hunt last played together in 2018, and Atkinson could be the man to turn it around.
In his handful of first grade games he has looked like a star, but he’s been a backup for two very strong teams. With one of the weaker forward packs in the game, Atkinson’s skill will really be on clear display.

He will be given the keys to the side at halfback and all eyes will be on him and his halves partner Kyle Flanagan. There’s plenty of responsibility on Atkinson’s shoulders and Dragons fans will quick to let him and coach Shane Flanagan know if he doesn’t aim up.

I thought this was a somewhat positive review from DT on Atkinson. Will we have one of the weaker packs? If Luciano could turn himself into a decent front rower like KK has, I'd say "no". Not one of the weaker packs. Or need Gular to step up on his form last year. Or Kerr to be much better than he was in his first stint. Or Sele to play well and get through more than 2 or 3 games in a row without being injured.

One of those 4 with Couchman's and LPT isn't a bad front row rotation. I rate Cook and Liddle as well.

If these comments dont fire up our forwards then nothing will
