2025 pre season

I know LKT broke his jaw but if that's the extent of the injuries in the first part of the pre-season, Dragons are lucky. Just saw Euay Aitken, who was never much of a centre but is a very decent backrower, is going to miss a month for Souths joining Murray out for the first 10 weeks or so. Then North QLD lost one of their big guns for the entire season. Luki is a backrower I first saw play against the Dragons. For memory shortly before Griffin was sacked. They were all talking about Nanai but Luki was by far the better of the two in that game.

Anyway, too bad for North QLD and Souths but glad Dragons seem to have fared much better.

Is it correct that in the first part of the pre-season they do mostly fitness and weights but in the second, concentrate mostly on getting combinations and right and working on skills? So until the trials, there's less chance of serious injury?

Sounds logical.

Who’s most under pressure at every NRL club

DRAGONS

Kyle Flanagan

The son of Dragons coach Shane Flanagan was impressive at different stages of last season, but now he’s got to deliver without Ben Hunt. Kangaroos and Maroons star Hunt joined the Broncos and left Flanagan as the chief playmaker in Wollongong, while he has also signed a two-year extension.

As we’ve seen with father-son duos at the Eels and Broncos, if the losses start mounting up then the criticism will come thick and fast for both Flanagans. No longer a youngster, Flanagan turns 27 in 2025 and will play his 100th game in Round 1 after he was banned for biting late last season, so it is time to step up and deliver, especially with Lachlan Ilias and Daniel Atkinson joining the club over the next two seasons.

Honest comment for the most part.

Minor fracture, still training in yellow vest.

No, it's balanced over the week.

Roughly like this
Wollongong
Monday Gym Field
Tuesday Wrestling
Wednesday longer Field
Thursday rest
Kogarah
Friday Field
Saturday gym split Kogarah Wollongong
Sunday off

Cheers. What is it like when the season starts. I know the day before the game they have a "captains run" and day after recovery.

Bit of useless info:

Defensive Jekyll and Hyde

The Dragons conceded an average of 13 points in their 11 wins in 2024, but a whopping 38 points in their losses. Here’s hoping the additions of Damien Cook (Rabbitohs), Valentine Holmes (Cowboys), Clint Gutherson (Eels) will add some veteran resolve to the soft underbelly.

Lucky seven

The Dragons have missed the past six finals series since finishing seventh in 2018. They have never missed the finals (in the joint venture or otherwise) in seven straight seasons. The Dragons are the longest odds of any team ($4.25) with the TAB to make the top eight.

Players from every club under pressure to perform in 2025 NRL season

Dragons

2024: Tyrell Sloan, 5/10

Didn’t make the strides off the ball that were expected heading into the year. Was dropped for a game.

2025: Kyle Flanagan

Had a strong first season at the Dragons but will now become the senior halves partner in 2025 following Ben Hunt’s decision to return to Brisbane. Flanagan showed that he can be a regular first-grader but will now be lumped with added responsibility as he plays alongside Lachie Ilias.
