Junior stars switching clubs or re-signing during the NRL off-season​

The SG Ball and Jersey Flegg captain is highly regarded in the Illawarra and is steadily making his way through the ranks, joining Shane Flanagan’s NRL side in pre-season training for the third time.

With their 2025 NSW Cup halfback Jonah Glover off to South Sydney, St George Illawarra is putting their faith in Kade Reed, locking him in until the end of 2028.

“He possesses all the qualities you want in a halfback; he’s fit, fast, kicks well and is a great competitor,” Flanagan said. “This pre-season will be another big one for him as he continues to work on his game and his body. We’re excited to see his continued development over the coming years.”

Reed, 19, made his NSW Cup debut in Round 26 this season and will be vying for more minutes at a higher level in 2026. It marks a significant change at St George Illawarra who have struggled to retain local talent, but with Lyhkan King-Togia promoted to the NRL side, he and Reed are signs the tide is shifting.
This was in the DT. I didn't know he was the Jersey Flegg captain.

A few gaps but this is an early prediction for the reserve grade team for round 1:
  1. Sloan
  2. Feagai
  3. Buchanan
  4. Heidke
  5. Setu Tu / Williams
  6. LKT (I hope KF but doubt it. Coach will want him on the plane to Veges)
  7. Reed
  8. Gular
  9. Muhleisen
  10. Lawrie
  11. Nick T
  12. Halangahu
  13. Meafou

  15. CST
  16. ?????
  17. ?????
Need a couple of props on the bench but without Liu, Molo, BMM, who will that be? It's set up perfectly for KF to play hooker, Muhleisen on the bench and Hammoud 5/8 but Flanno is absolutely going to want Kyle on the plane to the US.

Makes sense. It will start the same week as first grade as a whole starts, 1 week after the Veges games. It probably shouldn't affect NSW Cup. 1 week is ample time to get over jet lag.

Hutchinson will be starting. On thr bench at least. Is it just me who rates him very highly? Seems to me to be a JDB 2.0.

Penrith recruit on one wing, CT on the other, Gutho fullback. That back 3 is still far too slow. Ideally will be able to recruit a good, fast winger before the start of the season to replace CT.
