Isn't it for 2 years? You mean including this year? If he gets good assistants with orders to listen to them and act on their ideas he might go alright. If it's true the players all like him.

I wouldn't have a clue because I don't think that in reality anyone of note actually applied because maybe their thought was how awkward life could be being a head coach of the Dragons. Going back to when Griffin got the sack, there weren't many who applied, Deano was one (he has always shown an interest), or asked to apply and the one that the Board liked was Ryles but he in the 11th hour turned us down and we then got Flanno who was in the shadows waiting for a chance. Flanno's history with us as an assistant wasn't great. The same with Recruitment but he was chosen anyway because there really wasn't anybody else. Why not Deano then? How is he different to how he was when he was assistant coach of the Cowboys? Not good enough then to take over from Griffin so what is different now?

Anyway, the notification by the Club officially announced today clearly shows that they did not do interviews persay. Not saying anything about who were the applicants or who they actually interviewed. It was a decision made ages ago and their due process was limited.

At least now there is no need to wonder who will be the Dragons coach next year. Just get on with this year the best they can and plan next year the best they can and away we gooooooo.

Yes I wonder about the term - Says it is 2 years with an option for another year in the club's favour. What does the rest of this year count towards? I guess he is still the interim head coach until next year.

Isn't that what the poll above was for? I voted for Michael Cheika. A new guy with new ideas from the outside with a lot of contacts and coming from a team which is sitting equal second on the ladder and will almost certainly finish in the top 4, if not top 2 if not minor premiers.

But then again, Steve Price had an excellent record as an assistant.

What pisses me off is how they had this whole dog and pony show to talk about how they were searching far and wide and etc when we all know DY was locked in most likely from before Flanno was fired or quit.

I don't remember that but I remember Trent Robinson saying he'd do a good job if offered it. I mean he said Michael Cheika would do a good job.

There should have been a committee set up the minute Flanagan was fired to assess every single assistant coach across the NRL and Super League (approximately 60) as well as some of the existing Head Coaches who may interested for strengths and weaknesses. We should have ended up with a very strong shortlist of 5 to 10 young up and coming highly talented coaches for interview stage. And we should have been the ones contacting them and selling the opportunity. Some of them would have been busting for an opportunity like this.

It makes me so angry that the club keep trotting out this rubbish that they searched extensively. Liars.

I know we need to support etc etc but right now I'm far too angry to show my support to a man who has been given the job because of his father, and ahead of potentially better candidates. This was an opportunity wasted with possibly what is shaping up to be our best squad in a decade assembled for next year to be gift wrapped for Young. I'll support the team but not Young, not unless he proves me wrong and that will not be an easy task.

Exactly. Watsford will end up the same as all of the other failed CEO's we have had. Deano needs to get wins for this year. If he can get 3-4 more then next year we will know that we have a chance to win many games with the new recruits and the appointment of Deano will be justified. Have to wait and see like it has been for many years now. Wait and see!

Absolutely correct. In my day just to be promoted through the system from coaching juniors, reps, seniors, ressies and eventually the peak 1sts nothing was guaranteed.

Applications came from everywhere which included internally.

I can only imagine how many EOI were received for a prestigious 1st grade coaching position such as ours, or in fact for any 1st grade team.

I am bemused by the fact that there appeared to be on face value very few applicants for this position.

Does that realistically mean those in the know were aware through the grapevine that the process was effectively a closed shop?

He needs to have the humility to listen to good assistants and allow them to be effective ... that is my biggest fear/doubt with him.
