Dragons v Dogs Round 1

For the knowledgeable people on this forum, can someone please explain to me that with the difference in field size if that will have an adverse effect on Burtons kicking game ? As we all know shutting that down will go a long way to us winning the game.
Yes sir. That would be me, wouldn't it? Who else:rolleyes:?
I got my high school geometry case out and came to the conclusion that because the field is narrower, it would give Cook and Atkinson more chance of a 40/20 that they had and Burton less chance than he had. Burton is still more likely but if his chance was say 50-50 before, now it's 30-70 while Cook and Atkinson have remained 20-80. Kyle is next to zero. JDB has more chan....... F*CKING FLANNO!!!! Hamish Stewart has more chance.

We know that Burton's kicks are lethal and in nearly all of his kicks, he has total control whether very high and swirly or long and spinning and if you have any doubts about catching them you are in big trouble. With his kicks his team mates have ample time to put pressure on the catchers and pin down the opposition players well in the red zones.

The details of trhe field size is as follows:-

"It is 94.5 metres from goalpost to goalpost and 64 metres wide as opposed to 100 metres by 68 metres. The in-goals have also been cut down from eight metres to six-and-half.

As for where the length has come off from, foxsports.com.au confirmed with NRL officials that each 10-metre block on the field is instead 9.45 metres — and the referees will adjust the defensive line’s position to ensure it is still at 10 metres.

A smaller field is not unprecedented though. The in-goals for the Rugby League World Cup final at Old Trafford were less than five metres and the field at Olympic Park that the Melbourne Storm played on for 15 years was 64.5 metres wide.

The field has been expanded as wide and as long as possible and Fox League’s corner cameras — which usually sit on the edge of the field — will instead sit in the grandstand to create more room."

I don't think that the size of the field will have any adverse affects on Burton's kicking game because of his accuracy. What our players must try and do is not allow him the time to get those good kicks away that could upset his accuracy. If our fullback and wingers catch the balls without knocking them on then we would be in a much better position obviously to have possession which we can ill afford to hand back to the Bulldogs.

I have a feeling that Burton will pull his hamstring in the game as I think he hasn't given the tear time enough to heal properly.

Jeez I wanna say we can win this but unfortunately I am only kidding myself, given the 17 our coach chose and the strength of our opposition, as much as I hate admitting it. So sorry that this is probably our best lineup. What a shame this match is not a yr from now when we will undoubtedly have a stronger team.

Well in my view if someone doesn't straightening up the attack and we keep crabbing across the field our wingers will end up in row 1

Just want to say RVH that the Dragons seem to be a year or two behind with player strength compared to the recruitment abilities of the better clubs. Next year we should have a better squad with KK and maybe a couple of backs but by the time 2027 comes around we seem to still be behind those better cl;ubs who like us will go for better players who they get and we go for better players who we don't get. I though that with the signing of Gutho, Holmes and Cook for 2025 that we would have ended up higher on the ladder for 2025 - but no, 'cause in 2024 we finished 11th while for 2025 we finished 15th. This year we signed Atkinson supposedly with high opinion and a couple of backs and that's it so I'm not expecting much chop.

I always hope for a great recruitment of players for the right positions we lack and we get some players then all still fizzles out which becomes so frustrating.

So Round 1 in 2026 will give us an indication to some degree where we will be heading for the rest of the year. Even if we win against the Dogs it won't tell the full story. We have to win games consistently not win/lose/win/lose like we have experienced for a few years.
