Dragons v Dogs Round 1

St George Illawarra’s anger towards Grant Atkins over some controversial calls in their loss to the Bulldogs hasn’t impacted his standing, with the under-pressure referee set to be retained for Round 2.

It is understood Atkins’ performance was given approval by the NRL and he will be back to referee in the top grade next week.

Just to repeat myself, since the JDB farce and the meek acceptance of the NRLs diktats from our head office, we have become the whipping boys of the competition. Or at least when he was found not guilty the club should've sued the NRL for all its worth.

If Rorters teed off on a ref for good reason, there would be action.

Apparently other refs are privately saying the calls were 50-50. The last one more was more like 80-20 against. As if that ref or any other would rule against the Rorters or Broncos or Storm for that in gold point. They wouldn't. But lets be liberal and say, "yeah, they were 50-50". So the 50-50 calls went against us 5-0!!!???
It seems we continue to not win. It is no wonder we are the laughing stock from season to season because if we have any gripes we don't appear to get any leniency or 50-50 calls going our way most of the time and then clubs and players then learn how to niggle us and get away with things and the refs carry on making "unconscious" decisions because we are not considered a "good" team. Chances of signing any decent players go out the window because they know we don't get a fair deal (and their managers know this as well). Even players that we have can see this which lowers morale - bastards.

Now Atkins will have a big smirk on his face. He better not referee any more of our games this year but in saying this, who of the current crop of referees treat us fairly or give us the rub of the green?

And what we will get back is "yep sorry the ref f$#ked up" V'landy's already set that agenda when he was questioned about it after the game.
I don’t think the club is raising concerns about the refereeing to seek retribution, J Justadragon. It appears they’re signalling to the broader officiating group that repeated errors in Dragons games won’t go unexamined. By making their position clear, they’re reminding all referees that poor decision‑making will attract scrutiny, which can influence future appointments to higher‑profile matches.

And unfortunately George from reading above it seems the NRL really dont care what the Dragons have to say. Just like Crichton got off scott free Atkins is clear to ref the very next round.

Well there is one way to bring this to a head in a big way. Let the club give Flanno the clearance to tee off at the next PC and pay his fine.

Agree 100%, Justadragon. The administration clearly isn’t concerned about the injustice. But if making an issue of it in the media prompts a few referees to think twice before handing the Dragons an unfair call, then it’s mission accomplished.

But the worst decision had to be the Crichton high shot. I get he was falling—-but Crichton came in with a swinging arm and hit him directly on the head.

The snake oil salesman (V’Landy) said it was fine, nothing to see here, move along…
No surprises there to be honest. That Crichton tackle is now the template when one of our players does the exact same thing and gets cited. Plead not guilty, off to the judiciary and use that exact moment as the precedent set by the match review committee

It was a very poor call not to sin bin him. I can live with a fine from the MRC (1st offence only) as long as they are consistent but clearly that won’t be the case
The worst one was the last. Does anyone believe the Broncos, Rorters, Souffs (with Bennett in charge), Storm would have been ruled against in the same circumstances? If so, I've got a bridge to sell them in the desert around Las Vegas.

Atkins was not sacked after his pathetic refereeing in Vegas. V’Landy (he looks like a shonky used car salesman) said referees are human and make mistakes. Well, all Atkins’ mistakes were directed against the Dragons…
No sympathy from the snake man V'Landys! I thought he had a soft spot for the south coast league players seeing that he was raised in the area and became a Steelers supporter? Maybe he didn't like the Dragons - only the Steelers and seeing that the first grade Steelers don't exist on their own anymore he is probably following a club like the Roosters as I think he is great mates with Uncle Nick, the man with so many gift bags?

This is their first stints at new clubs - which is Kerr and which is irreplaceable JDB?

JDB played in a team which lost by 48 points.
