Sydney Roosters stun Broncos to set up decider against St George Illawarra Dragons
The Roosters may be the first team to beat the Broncos in the NRLW finals, but they won’t start favourites in Sunday’s final at Redcliffe’s Moreton Daily Stadium. That honour will belong to St George Illawarra, who held off a late flurry from the Titans to claim a 24-18 win. The Red V have arguably been the form team of the competition under new coach Jamie Soward, and now have the chance to claim a maiden premiership.“I expected to come in and make the finals as a minimum. To win this game today was a great result for the club,” Soward said.
“I feel like we’ve got another couple of gears, but we were probably just tight and frantic in that first half because of the situation of the game. That’s what a prelim final does for you.”
Madison Bartlett, Emma Tonegato, Jaime Chapman and Keeley Davis crossed for the Dragons, who have played a high octane, attack-first game to surge all the way to Sunday’s decider.
Our girls are really doing the club proud. Another outstanding display. The poor last play options aside. It was much closer than it should have been. They got a few completely unjustified square up penalties late and our girls put the cue in the rack.
As for the grand final, of course they will start favourites. When they played the Rorters two weeks ago, the score flattered the Rorters. Our girls had caught the Zac Lomax disease in trying to score off every play.
