NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg, 2025

Well there are points in this team and more and more we are seeing 1/2 to 5/8 to centre to winger, lovely try to Finau we kick away. That was as a result of a great tackle by Jet Lui ball turned over. Dragons 30 - 18. Lui has been impressive off the bench.

Forgot to add Lui to the list.
If the first grade team continues to play like they did last week, the following are ready to pounce on those positions:
  • Tonga
  • Liu
  • Tsougranis
  • Latu
  • Halangahu
  • Egan
  • Buchanan
  • King-Togia
  • Rumble
  • Lawson
  • Finau
Add in a couple of Jersey Flegg and U19s like
  • Reed
  • Stanley-Traill
  • Afu
  • Treweek
and we have ourselves a team. Only need to import a hooker I guess.

If we had another goalkicker, and possibly a 6 who could kick long.. you could make it work for Glover, his running, toughness and scramble defence are all rly good... that highlights vid showed some excellent pass selection also... not sure how far he goes, but a good nsw cup season is really valuable for player development whatever comes out of it for him.

Note.. he could also play a 6 role potentially.. but we do have a few in that basket.

SGI Jersey Flegg
agreed on glover. Have to give credit where it’s due he’s been really good in the opening 2 games. He was a massive handbrake last year and I still don’t think he’s an NRL player but it’s good for lots of the other young guns if the Halfback for cup is playing well so they can thrive.

If they can keep that team on the park that played on Saturday they’ll be a top 4 team in cup and play finals footy.
Despite the NRL teams bad start the pathways and flegg/cup teams could all genuinely go really deep in their respective competitions.

The Dragons are sitting pretty at the top of the table following wins over the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs.

Tyrell Sloan’s promotion to first grade opened up an opportunity on the wing for Ben Rumble, who took it with both hands by bagging a hat-trick. Up-and-coming centre Hayden Buchanan also turned heads with a try, two try assists, two linebreak assists, 115 metres and 10 tackles — no misses.

Buchanan try was as a result of his ability to support the man with the ball . He was a bit slow to realise that a break had been made but showed blistering pace to be in a position to accept the pass. Young Rumble tall, lanky, yet to grow into his body, but the sign of having a good football brain and was there at the right time to create the opportunity to score, and score he did.

Jonah has had a good start to the year, I must say he has surprised me.
It will be interesting to watch his progress and see how much he can improve.

Sometimes kids can have a breakout season especially after having a ordinary one previously and catching you out because you as a coach had decided that the player had reached the peak of their ability. This kid may just fall into that basket. Time will tell

Basicly given his tries. Dont recall him splitting the line. He did tho spill cold at least three kicks in our end zone putting the side under immense pressure. Lacks what it takes at this level. For mine his younger brother Toby has more upside.

Not picking a No.5 is a new thing with this team? I wonder if they are thinking of playing some of Buchanan, Halangahu, LKT, Nick T, Liu. With Latu and LPT in the top 30, does that make them ineligible for Jersey Flegg? Playing Buchanan at No.5 might be an idea. Don't want to break up that centre pairing going forward, assuming Buchanan will be in NSW Cup but need a winger.
