SGI NSW Cup
Gotta call out this strange club policy we have of playing two hookers in sec half. Mulheisen is a good defender but lacks the nippiness needed when taking on the line. Also his staying on deprives us of good mins from a rested middle.

They just seem to switch off thats the 3rd game in a row. It's up to the cpt and senior players to ensure this doesn't happen and more importantly continue to happen. We will win this but deary me I would suggest that the coach would be far from happy.

NSW Cup Notes (32-22 Win):
  • Reasonably strong team today, missing Heidke though, Feagai into left Ctr with Buchanan switching to the right, Lyric in on the wing with WIlliams.. CST also in the 2nd row.. oh and no NickT at all.. interesting.
  • First try is a conventional backline movement with a big floating pass over the top from Glover into Lyrics hands, whos playing wing today.. easily scores 6-0.
  • Liu has copped foul play twice now.. late flop on his head... then a 3rd man diving at his knee.. all souths cop is 1 penalty out of it.. thankfully stays on the field.
  • Second try.. Lyric competes for a Glover bomb and manages to rattle the defender who drops it cold into Ilias's hands.. 10-0.
  • Lyric went within a metre of a highlight reel try with his footwork and speed.. we almost scored another dozen times in sets to come.. a bit later Lyric takes an incredible intercept and is running the length.. and the ref calls him offside.. very harsh fmd.. honestly Lyric has fast become my next face wing prospect.. hes well in front of Williams 'currently'... and it costs us too, but off the back of that ref call... Souths with some sort of 2nd phase blokes running a very messy and but hard to read set... and we cant stop it.. instead of 16-0 its 10-6.
  • Ilias kick on the 5th travels 1m above the ground to Ashton Ward who nearly runs the length.. just killing it apparently.
  • Just watching Halangahu.. wonder if they have had the conversation with him that he needs to use his feet and find the ground quicker instead of trying to tractor his way to more run metres and slowing us down... never seen him look urgent before to get to ground.
  • Glover digs into the line twice in the 1 movement with speed and gets it to Ilias who um sort of chucks a vertical floater which was 1-2m forward but not called thankfully.. and Williams with his pace gets there and just charges to the line, with 1 step part way thru to leave a defender in his wake.. made it look easy...not sure what to make of that.. but I do love watching the high socks pumping. 16-6.
  • Off the kickoff Liu has a big charge then Haele gets Halangahu into a gap and he runs a long way down field.. used his footwork to get into that gap mind you.. couldn't find the pass but puts us 30m out from souths line and we put together a conventional backline movement for Williams to go in again twice in 2 minutes.. 22-6 converted from the sideline again. Just to mention Williams has taken 2 difficult bombs also.. but his hitups still need work (he gets belted).
  • RFM with a nice charge and late offload.. puts Glover into space and he went himself for a ballsy try.. just getting it over with an outreached arm.. cheeky against his 2026 team.. 28-6.
  • Playing razzle dazzle footy now.. Glover passes it long and souths get finger tips to it to prevent Lyric going over.. but the kid was fast enough to turn around and pick up the ball from the ground.. turn around again and still beat the defence to score.. Lyric is smashing it guys... I reckon he's gonna make it. 32-6.
  • Williams bombs this one, couldn't take the pass and loses it on their tryline.
  • Let in a bit of a soft one here, late offload and we couldn't defend it.. 32-12.
  • Man the very next set.. Souths spread it and Feagai misses a 1on1 tackle.. Williams does the right thing and stays on his winger, but the centre is pretty quick and just does enough to put his winger over eventually in the corner.. damn 32-16.
  • Managed to defend the next set and Lyric looks away again for a length of the try but its called back... and somehow called a knock on against us ffs... loving his speed though.. Williams takes a tough catch to save the set.. wingers in everything today.
  • .We almost scored off a Muhleisen break but the pass was called forward.. they go to the other end and big Shaq throws a forward offload and its called fine.. 32-22.
  • Bit scrappy against the team coming last on the ladder.. but its enough..
  • Note: Happy with TPH also, rly miss Ramsey but he is doing most of what Ramsey was doing for us.. fast feet, getting into space and quickly setting up the guns around him.. I mean maybe its cause the side is going well that helps.. but that's the case with all the players.

Flegg has the week off, so a pretty chilled weekend for us of 1st Grade + NSW Cup.. possibly 18th/19th man wont get back for cup? We shall see.. hopefully Nick is in the 1st grade 17 and not the fallback NSW Cup ctr that has been left vacant.

Few names back this week.. Sele, Ramsey, Fifita, CT.. must be almost time to start asking some questions about who gets the NSW Cup spots.. though i spose this team is going into finals yet.. so its not all about development.

Cup is playing the Jets (4th) and Warriors (very much 1st.. but at home atleast) in the next 2 weeks.. so geez.. gonna be a whole lot tougher than the last few weeks.

Just as long as they dont continue this trend of backing off in the 2nd half's

  • Ramsey back already! I thought he was out for a couple of weeks yet.
  • With Jersey Flegg taking a week off, I can only guess Lyric Craft-Te Moananui and Charles Heidke are injured. Otherwise surely a place would be found for at least one, if not both of them. At least one might be a late inclusion though can't guess why he wouldn't just be named.
  • Doesn't really matter for NRL now but hopefully Sele plays well and doesn't get injured in order to put himself in the shop window, as they say.
  • Liu at #13. Interesting. I wonder if he stays there.

Big game for Jesse Williams today. Up against that winger who played pretty well for Cronulla against the Dragons last year. He's apparently coming back from injury and looking to force his way back into first grade. If Jesse Williams has a good game against him, in theory he might be ready for first grade next year.
