I really hoped you had been given false information.

I know he is only young and has a long way to go, but gee he looks like he has some talent. From the matches I saw not only was he a good attacking player, but pretty reasonable with his defense as well. Hope he kicks on AND we keep him long term if he does.
I'm pretty confident that if his body is willing, he is going to make it to 1sts.. backline position completely TBD... that sort of footwork and pace just works in the modern game.. Averillo's value went up 50% (400k to 600k) where as 6 months ago he was considered too small/vulnerable in defence.... Drinkwater also another small guy who misses tackles but 'worth it'.

That said the refs have eased off the 6-agains lately, but those fast/skillful teams are still thriving.. but perhaps been bought back to the pack some... my footy tipping has never been worse.

Kiwi teen who could be Australia’s hottest schoolboy rugby and league prospect in the future

He is the schoolboy talent who could well find himself at the center of a future cross-code tug-of-war between rugby union and rugby league - but with a unique trans-Tasman twist.

At the premier showcase for Australia’s rising rugby talent, transplanted New Zealand teenager and St George Illawarra Dragons signing Rocco Walker has turned heads with his blistering speed and elite playmaking.

Representing NSW Schools I at the 2026 Australian Schoolboy championships, Walker has been one of the standouts of the tournament and called ā€œjust sensational by his coach Kieran Wallace.

On Friday, his undefeated team will fight to defend their Australian schoolboy crown on the Sunshine Coast against Queensland.

For Walker, it is a prime opportunity to cement his place on the performance spreadsheets of national selectors ahead of the Australian Schoolboys and Australian U18 rugby team announcements later this year

Walker - the son of former Highlanders fly-half Willie Walker -signed with the Dragons to great fanfare last year, earning rave reviews during his stint in the Harold Matthews Cup earlier this year.

Currently attending Cranbrook School, the 16-year-old plans to continue juggling both football codes for as long as possible.

ā€œI was at Auckland Grammar and I loved it there,ā€ Walker said ahead of Friday’s final. ā€œI moved over at the start of the year to Cranbrook and I really like it here as well.

ā€œI came over for the opportunity - to get a schooling and play both rugby league and rugby union so I have full-time training all year round.

The Dragons are happy for me to pursue both so I focus on union during school time then Harold Matt’s at the start of the year.

ā€œAlmost after school I will have to choose.ā€

For now, his immediate focus is finishing the schools tournament on a high and catching the eyes of the selectors putting together the Australian squads to face their New Zealand counterparts across the Tasman later this year.

ā€œI’m eligible to go for Australian Schools or Australian Under 18s selection. That’s my ultimate goal here,ā€ Walker said.

Despite his rising league profile, Walker admits right now he is still more comfortable playing what he knows best - union.

ā€œI’m signed with the St George Dragons, but I’m not sure if you would call me a ā€˜leaguie’ just yet,ā€ he laughed. ā€œI’m still learning the ropes. It’s my first year playing it (league). I’ve been a union boy my whole life.ā€

I wonder if he might be the reason the club seemingly didn't fight to keep Ah Kee. If it indeed didn't. I'm just going off what has been made public.

It’s going to be a real challenge to hold onto him. So much potential as a 1 or 6. I really hope we can.

Think of Walker as a young Fletcher Sharpe, just hasnt bulked up as much yet.. his feet are electric.. I think hes probably a fullback, but in a different mould to Burton despite being within 12mths of eachother.. but could play 1-6 in the future.. noone rly knows what his best position is yet..

Ah Kee was a different beast.. purely a 6 or a 9.. shame to lose him but life goes on. And Chapman I dunno what his best position is.. maybe reminds me of a Wishart perhaps.. just a professional footy player.. footy iq very good.. dont rly know where he will end up though...
