Recruitment and Retention for 2025

Another fringe first grader for one of the most highly regarded young players in the competition? As someone associated with the Bullgrubs would say, "no, no, no, no, NO". Everyone whinging about KF, justifiably so, but Sexton isn't much if any better. He's just playing in a better coached and more confident squad. But if Bullgrubs wanted to swap Latu and KF for Sexton and a good, SG Ball or Jersey Flegg player, that would work. I just can't see them agreeing to it.
Sexton is locked in 1st grader. A genuine halfback & million times better than Kyle.

Why would the dogs release Sexton, they are going gangbusters and more than likely finish top 4 at worse and have a great shot at winning the GF, they have fark all back up at 7, Hutchinson, Taafe are basically it, this wont happen..

They wouldnt release Sexton early, but next year I think is very likely if they do manage to sign one of DCE or Galvin (even though hes not technically a 7).

They do have Hayward, Tia and Woods in their system also, Woods however is our equivalent of Reed, i.e. a while away still.

Next year he certainly won't be (Sexton) needed.

Some very random rumour on another forum, ok yes its mighty unlikely... but either of these does sound mighty tempting:

"mate Heard on the radio this morning, not confirmed officially, Atkinson to Dragons, Outside back from Dragons to Sharks. Latu to Bulldogs with a unnamed Dogs player (Wilson) to Dragons. Either way some exchange being looked at."
Could it be Sloan to the sharks ?

Doubt they would want him. I think Sloan is heading to England. The game, not as defence orientated as over here will probably suit him really well. And seeing how Gutho goes about his business these past few months will help him as well.
yeah you are probably right Chris, that would complete the trifecta wouldn't it, Sloan Amone Sulivan, all gone, we expected so much and got so little.

Been an awful conversion rate for our local juniors developing into high quality players the last 10 years

Lomax/Sele/Luciano the ones I can think off the top of my head and I’m really stretching the use of ‘high quality’ talking about Sele/Luciano

Bostock/Dylan Lucas that have gone elsewhere and are doing well

Promising signs with some of the current crop so interesting to see how it plays out for thrm

Remember Cameron King and Kyle Stanley? They were supposed to be the dynamic duo to keep us in the promised land.
Not sure what happened to Sullivan. I think Griffin didn't help him by starting him in first grade as a hooker.
Amone and Sloan's defence was just so bad. Though really not sure what happened to Amone's running game. Why did it become so bad? Was it to do with partnering Ben Hunt in the halves?

young, middle forwards
Yep, but only one bookend, LPT is ready for Firsts . Name me two young props after him. Those middles you alluded to are all backrowers. The only possible other one is Jett Liu. We need a player similar to Klemmer, a seasoned, tuff as teak guy, plus with an offload and can make it past the advantage line. We had one in our sites Campbell-Gillard but were too crap to land him.

Gotta agree Jd. All three failed to live up to their hype after winning the '19 Ball final. The old case of buckling under the pressure of expectation me thinks. Happens often in cricket too.

Yes but will his body stand up to the month in month out trigors of FG prop play as Jo was saying he badly needed a rest just before his injury. I see Ryan as an edgie and prob Toby too.
I don't see any reason why not. Big enough, strong enough, athletic enough. I see one of them a long term starting prop with LPT and the other a lock.
Then there is also:
  • Stewart
  • Liu
  • CST
  • Hutchinson who I think is C of the Jersey Flegg team and someone I wouldn't write off yet
  • Daniel Meafou a year or 2 behind them.

Absolutely agree both brothers have done a great job considering their ages. Ryan has done what JDB did in previous years taken a hit for his team and club by playing a bookend and that is as a direct result of being unable to attract a decent experienced bookend into the club in the last 4 yrs.

Riccio definitely spoke with Flanno earlier in the week.. Riccio came out with a detailed list of our current injury situation, and that we had a large amount of cap space ready for a June 30 signing.. the way he spoke was like flanno had put the words in his mouth.. my point is we have cash now and 2 spots.. but can we find anyone external, or are we gonna have to burn the cash and maybe upgrade a lawson and a liu or some such...
