Supposedly we met with RCG today (https://archive.md/6AL3P ) and were yet to table an offer.. I find it hard to believe we would have gotten this far without talking numbers.. but anyway lets hope we can secure him.. would be nice to wrap it up before the game.

I think yesterday once again highlighted that our pack is definitely holding us back still, obviously every position could be improved, but we cant be getting thumped up front on the regular... need 1-2 who make an impact like JDB.

Update: Read on MMM indicating he thinks we have him.. just waiting to see that confirmed with a little bit more assuredness!

Wonder if everyone is waiting to announce it after the game?

Thoughts on Oregan Kafusi. Thought he went well against us but he's a big bopper, 25yo & has a mutual option for 26. Sharks have AFB coming in, re-signed a few so they shouldn't have too much salary cap room either.

Over the next 2 years there will be a big cleanout of the forwards. In 2026 maybe JDB if he keeps playing like this, Couchmans, Su'A and maybe Leilua and Sele will still be around. Molo's, Eisenhuth, Russell, Coric, Shereb, RFM, Lawrie, Fifita, BMM, Alec T all gone. So someone like Kafusi might be a wise signing for the right money. Because there is a tsunami of good young forwards coming though in the next 2 years.

Definitely Flanno is keeping those forward contracts short so he can a) keep the older blokes motivated and b) give him options for upgrades if they come...

Its the bluddy hard way to do it.. and it means Shane needs to be able to motivate these older blokes.. which tbf does seem something hes good at.. but yah I think he will look to move molos out at some stage.. and I think the jury is out on sele but mostly due to his injuries each year, im sure if he could put games together he's atleast a good bench prop.

It would be super nice if JDB really can keep his form up for another 1-2yrs.. we have so few props we can really rely on.. and hes been good with lack of injury also.

Couchmans might be exceptions in terms of contract length.. may aswell be 3-4yrs.. they have youth on their side turning 21 next month, they r probably starting to hit their peak for the contract after that.. maybe the contracts will have incentives built-in too.

Given that we want the contract to be 2yrs, you'd have to assume the 3rd year is something RCG could trigger.. whether its on a lower figure or not (like birds contract), dunno.. perhaps.

Seems an option in the clubs favour means 2 years. An option in his favour means 3 years. It might be in his favour with various types of performance clauses.

Yeah could be kpi's in there of some sort..

My understand of the way Birds one worked.. was if club & player both wanted that final year, then Bird gets his full salary (was big money), but if we wanted to move him on (which we did), but he chooses to stay on... its on a heavily reduced salary.

Worth noting Shane Flanagan only has 2 years left, he's more likely to be in a win now mode to get a contract extension rather than doing a full rebuild. Another factor for 2 year extensions or contracts for a few players.

Article behind a paywall in the DT.
  • Saifiti is not ruled out but RCG more likely. Club not budging on 2 years. He wants 3.
  • Tom Eisenhuth looking at an extension "following an impressive first season" at the club. Utter BS! He's been average at best.
  • Bird, Lawrie and Rava all free to move on now.
  • Ramsey is in the top 30 next year but doubts he can make it back next year, if ever.
  • Max Feagai in talks about an extension. If you asked me before last Sunday's game, I would've been in favour of it. Not sure now. How is their defence so bad? It must be attitude. No way they could have made it this far without being able to tackle. It's not just missing tackles but the way they do it. Ball runner just blow right past them. Better this year than last year but still so frustrating to see.
  • Russell and Muhleisen on the way out.

Eisenhuth is ok but time to give youth a chance.

All sounds pretty accurate.. coupla points:

o Justa mentioned the current RCG offer is 2yrs + an Option for a 3rd, but no clarity yet on what sort of option were talking , nor should we know those details until its agreed on, and I do think even if we sign RCG this week, it would make more sense to announce it either after the round or even after the season.. just 1 less headline for Parras last home game.. and also their spoonbowl which will be a huge game.

o Bird, Lawrie, Rava and im almost certain Fifita will be tapped to go.. Fifita and Bird r on 1yr deals I think we could break even on both, the 2yr ones r tricky.. I think Rava would be a good prospect for the UK.. I think his big runs would get bums on seats.. whats letting him down is his defence in nsw cup.. and its 2yrs left on his contract.. hopefully it wasnt huge money... Lawrie I dont know how were gonna move him.. I rly dont.. we might just need to suck it up.. maybe we can frontload the money into 2024 where I'd say theres a reasonable chance we cant spend all our cap dollars... not sure if thats allowed though.

o Ramsey is tricky.. Ramsey himself would have to be fairly positive that hes not gonna make it back.. otherwise im sure hes going to want to keep training into 2025.. its a tricky one.. we might not get his Top30 spot back until mid-2025.. so maybe we could chase someone mid-season.

o Tom & Max I think are dependant on removal of those other players.. I think thats Phase 4 or Phase 17 of the roster rebuild.. we will get em if we can, and if it suits the make-up of what we need.. for example if Holmes rly does end up our fullback, then Max could be a really smart right centre cover.. but he has other offers it was said i think on here.. so its not a sure thing he wants to stay for bottom dollar.

o Lastly we still havent gotten our halves injury coverage.. perhaps it ends up being Bird (given hes already signed).. but if we can move on Bird.. then we could get someone new.. that someone could be Marshke for 1 more year, but I am starting to wonder whats going on with Marshkes injuries.. maybe we are better off looking further abroad.

I hope it's an option in the clubs favour or at least an option in his favour with a bunch of very specific performance clauses.

Problem is, finding someone to take them. I agree Rava and also Bird might be in demand for the ESL. Not sure about Fifita but like you, don't know waht they are going to do with Lawrie. He's had a good run. Was a fan favourite for a while but his time has come.
o Ramsey is tricky.. Ramsey himself would have to be fairly positive that hes not gonna make it back.. otherwise im sure hes going to want to keep training into 2025.. its a tricky one.. we might not get his Top30 spot back until mid-2025.. so maybe we could chase someone mid-season.
Before he got sick, I rated him. I thought he needed to put on several kgs of muscle but had a frame which would allow that. But it's been a long time out and still might not be ready to come back next year. I hope he is ready to come back next year but medical retirement might be the best option.

Not a big deal to lose either. But if the club can rid of those you mentioned above, I'd be in favour of keeping both. Just as long as it's short term, especially Tom given the number of young forwards coming through. I hate the talk about how he has been good this year and earned himself an extension. Really? In which game? Seems the bar is set so low for some players.

Hopefully LKT and someone mentioned Sloan playing 5/8. If he's put though rigorous defensive work in the off season, that could be a possibility.
