Recruitment and Retention for 2026

If I remember last year, after mad monday there was atleast a month if not 2 months where Flanno was doing player debriefs and staff debriefs and what not.. and then kicking into the preperation for 2026.. essentially you can rest when ur dead or something if ur a head coach.

The good thing is this year he can go and do that while Ando works on recruitment at the same time.. and I imagine Shane has a lot more brain space to converse about recruitment with Ando now that first grade is finally done...

Will be curious when we find out about Dean Young staying or going.. our new assistant (or 2), new cfo, maayybbbee a new GM? Interesting off-season coming.

Is a GM needed? Now Anderson is on board. What would a GM do? Oversee Anderson and Flanno? So what would be the CEOs job?

I think every club has one, ours is Haran currently, but id rather it be someone like Frank Ponissi.. and the role he does for the Storm, everyone raves about him....if u hear him on the radio hes very astute.... or Gus Gould at the Dogs... more good footy brains in the organisation is a very good thing, we have been very lazy in signing quality staff to support Flanno, which is why we r in this mess.

Technically I think the GM role is a lot about managing things around match day, away trips etc.. but im sure the role differs depending on what you need from it... you can always outsource the gruntwork to an assistant.

Totally agree Rev, the GM would also handle most of the media in recruiting and have a say in hiring other staff whilst assisting Watsford in making the club business savvy. On Ponissi, he is so well respected in Melbourne that the Melb Afl club has him sitting on a panel to select their new coach. Thats because he works with the AFL in trying to get RL to where it is in Melb, no mean feat.

Yep. Ponissi is a big reason why the Storm are always in the top 8 for the past decade at least. Very astute person which the Dragons need for sure.
