Recruitment and Retention for 2026

CT would go well if his lack of speed was made up for with very fast centres and fullback. And was Tamale the worst player on the field yesterday? Only a bit worse than Ben Hunt.

Yep, need to build around the yardage backs. His lack of speed get exacerbated when you have feagai, allan, gutho in the same backline. He compliments Holmes, unfortunately they were both injured quite a bit. Need to find some quality wingers & also a fullback.

Gutho probs has 1 season left at fullback, his form fell away big time in the last 6 weeks. If we could get even one athletic quick winger who can be an aerial threat to play outside of Suli then our backline would have good balance.

Who knows what happens in the recruitment space this off-season, still a bit of footy to be played. Injuries can change priorities for teams.

If the wingers are Feagai and CT, we are in for another bad season. Unless a lightening fast fullback suddenly becomes available.

Flanno needs to get over his love of a lot of things !!!
He can continue to love Kyle but he shouldn't force him to do something he isn't good at like being a pro rugby league player. He should be a house painter or a sales person or something like that and have fun training two nights a week for Sydney Shield.

ok people time to have a serious talk about Ramsay, wtf is going on, is he going to the ESL and if so WHY ? Another preseason and we could have a FB. Hey dont get me wrong I dont want the kid to get hurt, but what difference is getting hurt in the ESL compared to NRL going to do. Put him in at FB next year and Gutho to centers or something.
He's a gun player but would have to bulk up quite a bit to play in first grade.

He avgs 184rm which includes a 15rm game where he played 20mins. For a team that struggles getting yardage, he's our best in that area. Why would you want to remove a strength? Good teams add to their strength. His issue is with injury, I don't think we can rely on him due to injury. It's not a performance issue, when he plays he performs his role, he's elite in yardage.

CT? I'm neither here or there with him. He makes a lot of metres but a lot of tries are missed and scored against us for his lack of speed.

Roosters and Eels looking at Ramsey

'Genius' moment could save star's NRL career

A moment of pure genius from Cody Ramsey last weekend is set to save the forgotten Dragon's career.

Last week, Wide World of Sports revealed that Ramsey - who nearly died from ulcerative colitis in 2022 before coming back to footy this season in the NSW Cup in one of the most heartwarming stories of 2025 - is set to be cut by the Dragons.

Ramsey is without a club but a sensational solo try in the final minutes of the NSW Cup semi-final against the Warriors that has gone viral on social media may have changed all that.

Two Sydney clubs - believed to be the Eels and the Roosters - are suddenly showing interest in the fullback/winger.

"It was an amazing try - he must have beaten six players," Ramsey's manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports.

"Cody is a great kid and such a good story.

"He just refused to give up where other blokes would have tossed in the towel.

"He was out for nearly three years but this season has topped the running metres and line break assists in the NSW Cup."

So the Dragons don't see any reason now to enter a contractual arrangement for Cody Ramsey and have given him a train and trial deal for 2026 only.

We know that he has been "looked after" by the club throughout his debilitating ulcerative colitis syndrome and he has been given the chance to show that he can play with this illness in the KOE Cup and that he will help lead the Dragons to win the grand final in a week and a half's time or thereabouts.

My question is why are we not continuing to help Cody by signing him for say a 1 + 1 year contractual deal rather than just a train and trial? His try in the final against the Warriors typified his ability to individually create and score a very good try to virtually seal the game.

Now, Cody can look for alternatives because he doesn't like the train and trial deal and there are some people suggesting that he might remain in the NRL at another club and not go to Super League. Like this -

I know that his manager would be building up a case for him because that is his job. Is this to try and get the Dragons to offer Cody a better deal is my question?

I would definitely not like to see a dashing Cody Ramsey scoring doubles/triples against us one day.

He's a gun player but can his body withstand the rigours of first grade? It'd be a pretty big gamble.

No one can readily say, except for the medicos who have experienced many people go through this disease of the colitis and whether or not those afflicted have normal lives thereafter, especially sports enthusiasts. Cody in himself should know what his body is going through and how it impacts his ability to play 80 minutes of high intensity rugby league. The clubs reported to be interested in Ramsey's services will really have to dig deep and do the in depth due diligences on him before even talking to him, same too with any overseas interest(s).

The Dragons must have done theirs and that is why they have only offered a train and trial just in case he won't go the full distance, I suppose and by that I mean have the ability to keep playing at a high level. If Ramsey stays on a T and T with the Dragons, who knows, he might get through the whole year in good enough shape to then sign a better deal.
