NAS wasn’t NRL standard this year, so we would be taking a huge punt that he can’t get back to his best (or close to it). I agree that 1.3 is huge money for a prop, but still would argue that it’s money better spent than NAS at half that amount.
Agree, although it is always a risk spending a huge amount on a long contract for a front rower. However, Tino would be a great example for the Couchmen, Stewart , LPT, Liu etc, etc

While I think NAS will be a bad example, only show our young forwards what they shouldn't be doing.

I think NAS was in the Melbourne team when he wasn't injured or suspended. Either way, I still think anything north of 1 mil is too much for Tino. It's not like he has been really good for the Titans. Hasn't excelled in Origin. He had the one breakout year under Bellamy at Melbourne with some very handy players around him.

Yea he is. That's why he's a qld starting player and aus rep player. Eels finished below us and they've got a few handy players. Salary cap going up too. Nas is a basket case now. Either suspended, injured or unfit. We've got no one like tino.
Would you be in favour at throwing 1.3 mil a year at any QLD or Aus rep player? I don't want it to seem like I think he isn't a good player. But worth over 1 mil a year? No way! He's not close to that good as he has always demonstrated for the Titans.

Yes. He's a player in an area where we have no one. An elite carry 1 prop. Age is perfect too. Why get 2 avg players when you can get 1 gun player?

I just think he's a bit overrated and need good outside backs more than forwards.

I can't really remember him playing. Very rarely watch Gold Coast games and don't remember him standing out in Origin but for 1.3 million a year, if that's true, he'll be on more than Ponga, Walsh and about the same as Cleary. I can remember those 3 playing plenty of times. But a lot of media pundits who should know what they are talking about seem to think he's worth that. Personally I'll stay on the fence.

As for NAS, I think if he is fit and not suspended, he's still NRL standard. Media reports seemed to believe NAS being suspended was a big loss for Melbourne in the finals.

Media has lot a lot of agendas. I think Gutho goes well and had.good, not great, season. But he played a number of bad games in the second half of the season. Commentators always made excuses for him, never criticised. While JDB could crank out 150 rm, 30 tackles no misses, 2 offloads and a try assist but never got any credit.

Tino is a good player. I've watched him play for Titans a number of times. IMO 1mil a season is overs but sometimes have to pay overs. But for 1.3 mil a season! NO WAY as far as I'm concerned.

Its a cruel world now that this once mighty club has to pay way overs to get a player to show up. I've always been against getting a player purely on money and not because he wants to play for the club. It reminds me of Hunt and that fiasco. I'm with Eric and will stay on the fence on this one, but we need more than just Tino.

I honestly think that if players like the Couchman brothers, Egan, Stewart, Suli and Holmes didn't suffer long term injuries this year, we would have ended up higher on the ladder and at least near the top 8. With them in the team next year we should do OK but with maybe a couple of decent players from other clubs being signed up for 2026, I think that we could be top 8 material. It has to happen next year otherwise it will only get harder.

What happened to Phil Sami? Is that not happening now? Probably not a big loss. He's past his prime and was never very good but I think he's better than CT and Sloan.
Maybe Josh Hannay is wanting Sami to stay - I just saw some of his highlights which was mainly in attack and they were very good. His defence is proficient as his tackle efficiency rate for 2025 was 86.5%. I rate him as he is faster than CT and can take the high ball really well and outdoes Sloan who is quick but has limitations with defence and power.

I hope that Sami does get signed by the Dragons though as he can play Fullback, Centre and Wing. The Titans did say that he was free to look elsewhere even though he has a contract to the end of 2026 with that club. This is what Zero Tackle says -
"Phillip Sami is on an off-contract deal with the Gold Coast Titans set to expire at the end of 2026, and the club has given him permission to look for other opportunities. The Titans are unlikely to offer him a new deal beyond the completion of his current one, potentially leading to a move to the new Perth Bears in 2027 or an early release to the Dragons in 2025".

You are right. From what I've seen of him, I'm surprised Gold Coast are looking to get rid of him. They must have some very good young wingers.

The Club has lost 12 players. Some have been signed elsewhere, some have retired and some still to find another club. With these departures, Anderson must be looking at our good juniors to be secured and signed for the next few years and also some external signings that would enhance our squad. Anderson knows what we need in consultation with the coaches and now that the comp has ended and Nov 1 is looming, I expect that we will see some guys being signed up and announced in a couple of weeks time.

NAS and Sami would be very welcome in our round 1 team. But yeah, who is going to be promoted? Since Halagahu and LPT were already top 30. I know Reed is supposed to be on a development deal. Then there is Josh Kerr.

Does the 12 include Klemmer and Sloan?

No Chris. Sloan still signed to the end of 2026 but told he is free to look elsewhere which he has done but no takers yet and still wants to prove to everyone that he is worth keeping. So he is still able to be picked as the winger or back up full back so remains in our top 30 for the time being. Klemmer isn't listed as one of the guys to depart so for the time being we still have him as he has not been told he is released as yet, maybe if we get NAS then he will be?

I'd prefer someone picks up Lawrie's and Gular's contracts and we sign NAS and keep Klemmer.

I know that NAS is a penalty giver and has riled Bellamy for the amount that he gives and the suspensions that he cops as a result of his on field actions but he is the type of enforcer we need and if we do sign him Flanno will need to get him to adjust a few things - he still needs to be the enforcer just like Andrew Fifita. It has been something that we have lacked for far too long.

Melbourne would probably pay a significant amount of his salary for the next 2 years as well.
