Recruitment and Retention for 2026

Ryan

SGI NSW Cup
Yeah Ryan I get it. But for me there would be no way. He’s a loose cannon. He was good aerially but I didn’t think he possessed any great speed. I liked that he competed on every play though. I really don’t know what I would be saying right now if we still had him and he announced his R360 plan. I would put him in the same sphere as Hunt. And that’s not a good place.
He is really slow for an outside back. But with speedy outside backs around him, he proved in Origin how good he is. But I understand anyone not wanting him back. I don't like him walking out anymore than anyone else.

There are a few things in his favour. For example, remember when Griffin dropped him? The whole team was playing badly, none more so that Griffin's old Broncos players. But he chose to drop Lomax who I thought was one of the best of a bad bunch.

Yep the Hook era was certainly another notch in our belt foot poor coach selections. But I don’t know what was going on behind the scenes there either. There is a reason why Parra have let him go so easily. I just don’t know how this guy ticks

Didn't Lomax want to be able to do some boxing as well and that is why he left us because Brad Arthur agreed for him to do this if he joined the Eels?
His contract with the Eels included a clause allowing him to fight. Maybe he will one day. Lomax is somewhat of a lost cause now.

Jason Ryles is happy to let him go so that he can reshape his roster at the Eels - possibly to sign big Nelson or Koloamatangi. The Dragons have signed a couple of outside backs so I cannot see Lomax coming back to the Dragons.

Good luck to Lomax in whatever he's going to do now but you would have to think his time at the Dragons is over. I think he's disappointed he isn't better than he actually is given the wraps he used to get when he was 18~19 and the way Brad Fittler called him, "The Chosen One".

Yes, a lot of us had high hopes for Zac several years ago but he lacked the ability to make clean breaks in the centre position he held for quite a while. Many have said that he wasn't given early ball enough to get through the opposing centre/edge forward. He was mostly tackled without too much effort really. He did have that late pass to Rava for some tries and he was good but not great a goal kicker. His move out to the wing under Flanno made him a star for SOO and a test match but for the Eels he wasn't much and Ryles was happy to let him go without a fight.

The "chosen one" is now out on a limb.

He is now the unchosen one.

I think Lomax had a release clause. He went ok for them last year. He is a good player, competitive, who struggled under Hook, but everyone did, then found his calling on the wing. He just lacks that turn of foot to be a fullback——but then again Gutho moves live a super slo-mo video…

Doubtful tbh, there’s too many high potential and better skilled players to fill those positions at the club anyway

3 years was always overkill but Flanno was desperate for a big name and woulda done whatever it takes to sign him

I think we’ll end up letting him go a year early and pay a fraction of his contract to get him elsewhere (super league)

I'd like to see Gutho @ left ctr inside Val, or 5/8, he really was our spark last year, most of our points came out of him 'doing something' with whats in front of him.. if he rly struggled then yeah maybe 2027 who knows how it goes down.. couldnt see him retiring early though, too much of a competitor.

We have to actually land another fullback first mind you... think our f/back priority list was Koula > Campbell > Drinkwater > xxxx, and were down to #3 I suspect already.. Koula maybe too much talent to come, Campbell too much money... Drinkwater maybe the sweet spot with the Cows wanting him gone in 12mths anyway.

Liam Henry off the table

signed with Perth
It’s not looking good is it lads? Oh well I’ll just watch the AFL draft and trade period and admire how a real competition is run. This recruiting game in the NRL is really f$&ked up. I don’t really care anymore.

How far off is Burton? 17 or 18 next year? Several teams have debuted teenage backs over the last few years. In a perfect world there would be no need to rush them but it's pretty far from perfect for the Dragons right now.

Looks like Koula may be off the table, Zerotalk article, take with a grain of salt..

I understand the club now has more skillful halves but Gutho up in the front line talking the talk, laying down the law, leading by example..... If things aren't going well by Origin period, I think Gutho should get a go at half or 5/8.
