Recruitment & Retention 2027

Seems to me that what is going on at the club is having a knock on effect with players from other Clubs. Even without the dramas that we have now, it would be still hard for us to get any genuine good player to join us. Anderson probably realises that getting players to come is difficult so his job is tougher than what he thought it would be. We can only hope that the good young ones who are coming through want to stay at the club and that our pathways are such that they can see a good chance of being in the top 30 sooner rather than later.

Frank, we can now stop talking about Purdue, he has signed to the end of 2030, with the Cows !!!

Another one not coming, which was never on the cards anyway and probably not even attempted to sign up by Ando.

As with Holmes, the Cowboys are happy to say goodbye? .........not a glowing reference

Purdue will be their fullback on 750k a year. .........how much are we willing to pay Drinkwater, I'll say 850_900k per year
We should have offered Purdue 1 mil a year for 4 years. It was mentioned Melbourne, Canterbury and WA all were chasing his signature.. I don't know if a mil a year over 4 years would have got his signature, but it doesn't even sound like were made a play for him.

If we sign Drinkwater for 850 or 900K a year, we have done Nth Qld a favor, like we have been doing for other clubs for a long time.

We have been struggling to get good players to sign with us, since Bennett left in 2011. We have been shopping at the Go Lo and the reject shop pretty much ever since and doing other clubs favors, taking their off cuts.

When he is killing it for Nth Qld at fullback, I will still be reminding everyone how I said he would be a superstar and people on here were ridiculing me and saying he wasn't anything special, when I said we should sing him for big money. He is already killing it for Nth Qld this year at centre and will be better next year at fullback.

Look how good Jenkins is going this year for Penrith. Before the season started I said we should sign him to play for us and that we could have got him for a small price, maybe even got him this year, with an early release, as he couldn't make Penrith's team for the finals. Now in today's Foxsports article about NSW predicted team, he was picked on the wing. No one was talking about Jenkins before the season started, except me.

True, you did, but do you know what makes up a good winger apart from his own personal traits and skillset? Every player inside him .

Wingers are only as good as those players and the attacking structures that allows them to get their hands on the ball and show off those skills.

Panthers are a very well coached team, has anyone else noticed that they are playing away from one of the best wingers in the competition? Towards young Jenkins away from To'o.

Now we are talking about Drinkwater , who is about to turn 29 yrs old. I wouldn't touch him with a 6 foot pole. Surely we have learnt our lesson signing players who have gone past their peak performance years. Only time will tell. Just my views.

Frank, I have a feeling that even if we offered Purdue $1mil per season and he knocked us back, then you would be telling us how Purdue knocked us back. I've actually thought about you getting in touch directly with Daniel Anderson, giving him your resume of all the players you have previously targeted, including your future picks of the Cleary's, and tell him you have a 100% hit ratio when it comes to selecting stars to play for the Dragons. At least "make him an offer he can't refuse" !!!

What you say is valid, but some wingers defy what you say. Ones such as Eric Grothe from the 80's, Brett Morris, Semi Radranda, Nawaqanatiwase and Greg Inglis, when he play wing were all match winner all come to mind and are more than just wingers who finished off what the players inside them set up or created. In today's game, good wingers are more important than ever. They take hit ups. Their aerial ability can be match winning. Jacob Kiraz has a great offload, same with Lomax. Lomax was a revelation on the wing.

Personally Nawaqanatiwase would be the first winger I would choose for NSW this year. I think he is a very special player, who can do things most others can't.

Semi Radrandra was such a special winger. He was much more than just a winger.

Jenkins form has even surprised me. I certainly wouldn't have had him in the picture for a NSW wing position at the start of the year. I thought he wouldn't even be in Penrith's first grade team, after being dropped for the finals. If Izack Tago didn't have a disrupted pre season and was picked for game one, Jenkins may not have even been playing first grade this season.

Too bad that the only one not to realize how good a winger Lomax was, was Lomax, and look at what the Flog has done now.

Putting all the puzzle pieces together:
  • Purdue staying put
  • Bula looking like staying put
  • Tracey staying put
  • Us not being interested in signing Fuller for 2027
Drinkwater becomes the last cab left at the station, with nowhere else to go apart from us who can offer him fullback cash.... and we must be pretty confident.. otherwise Fuller for 2026+2027 was a no-brainer move..

With KK, Drinkwater & Sami signed (if that all proves right), add in a competent 7 and that is the nuts and bolts sorted.. with a half decent coach & 12mths on our young forwards... we should be able to be far more competitive in 2027... I mean it'll still be the 17th best roster but the roster-gap that ive been banging on about for years will be less pronounced.

I thought I read somewhere that Drinkwater has knocked us back Rev.
