Recruitment & Retention 2027

Now we have to wait for Metcalf Jd, is Atkinson still your pivot. Fraid nothing is gonna change for us until we bring in this new trio of KK, Drinky and Luke. But gotta say there is a level of excitement I've not had since Widdop joined us with these guys coming and combining with our best juniors to take us forward.
Well for the rest of the season and because Reed will be out for a minimum of 10 weeks plus, then we are back to the combination of LKT/Atkinson/KF. It doesn't really matter anyway RVH there is really nothing that we can gain from this season except try a give a few other young guys a go, maybe even O'Neil. Three quarters of our backs wont be there next year anyway.

I normally have a hard No-JamesHooper rule, but hes saying Metcalf likely to be released for Round 13 (after we play em), im sort of torn cause I dont want to scar the kid before 2027 even rolls around.. but we could rly do with some help (link).
Hey Rev for years we have been saying that we need to get ourselves further up the ladder to become attractive to other recruits. Here we are with the worst season ever and the best recruiting we have done since Bennett , ahh the old story of "it's not what you know but who you know". Excellent work by everyone at the club, we can blame Flanno for some but lets not underestimate the effect Harran had for many years on ability to recruit quality players let alone players wanting to come here. Lets thank our lucky stars we got rid of him when we did, to think this imbecile was a protected species by certain factions of the club shows little they cared about moving the club forward with his tenure. Good lesson learnt I hope and lets all hopefully embrace a new era.

A bit off topic, but now Su'A is gone, I hope something can be organised for Suli to leave as well. I've thought he is very overrated for a long time. He runs hard and makes decent metres most games but is that enough for a centre? I don't think so. He might have more luck transitioning into a prop.

I don't get how our coaching staff seemingly doesn't rate Halangahu.
Are you seeing this Eric Eric, I'm not. Any others? You basing this on Young sending him back to Ressies. Figured this was probably one of three reasons or all three, his tender age, Talau wants him and with Egan back on the edge our coach prefers a more experienced bench So consequently no room for young juggernaut.Tho to be honest he should be on the pine occasionally this season at the very minimum and having his mins raised bit by bit.

if we have tapped Suli/Holmes/Gutherson/Kyle
and we dont re-sign any of the off contract players from this season
we are still 10 players short of a top 30 next year.

that is a massive task ahead of the club ... good news is though ... with a set spine plus the junior forwards and KK we are really starting to show the team we could be ...

I've given up maintaining the 2027 spreadsheet lately, I have nfi who's gonna still be there..

And if Connor Watson joins for 2027, these are his speed stats:

Sydney Roosters utility Connor Watson is known as one of the quicker players in the NRL, having been officially clocked at a peak speed of 36.9 km/h. His blistering acceleration and agility are key assets that allow him to play a versatile role across the spine and in the middle of the field.
His junior sprint training and natural pace allow him to effectively support forwards, capitalize on offloads, and inject instant attacking speed off the bench.

I’m a Suli fan, big and strong, not as slow as most think. Personally I’d like to see him with a good 1 6 and 7 before discarding him. Let’s be honest, he hasn’t exactly had a dynamic 1 6 and 7 feeding him quality ball with space to work with over the last couple of years. Drinkwater is the type of player that could unlock Suli.

I'm basing it on Lawrie, Gular, Kerr being selected for NRL while Halangahu is in NSW Cup. Not just this week but I thought from the first game in the NRL he was better than a lot of our veterans but they keep getting selected ahead of him.

He's big and strong but really doesn't bust many tackles. Makes a lot of post contact metres, like any good prop but not so much for good centres, IMO.

Although hes that suited to the modern game, I rly notice when him and/or Val r out.. were gonna have to move on at some point, whether both go next year I dunno.. seems a big ask to find 2 new centres... but this is now a magnitude easier to manage for Ando and co since we now have the core components sorted.
