Is he very good? When I saw him play a bit for the Warriors, seemed average.

He doesn't have the class of Pattie but I don't think Canberra will be silly enough to let him go, so not even contemplating him anymore.

For me Healey is the perfect modern day 9. Running his strength with his speed and seems crafty enough. Certainly unproven over longer minutes though, that'd be my concern with paying him bigger money. Sort of like a younger, healthier Liddle I reckon.

Bostock's big call on Phins future

Another big-name Dolphins domino is set to fall with Jack Bostock revealing plans to ink a new deal with Redcliffe.

Bostock addressed reports he could quit the Dolphins, saying he intends to ink an extension before the conclusion of the World Cup.

“It’s still all getting worked out now,” Bostock said when asked to clarify his future with the Dolphins.

“As we’ve gone into the end of the season, it’s started getting sorted out.
“So over the World Cup campaign, I’m sure it will all be finished.”

Nothing can be officially announced until after Nov 1 but the talk of Farnworth going to the Roosters in 2028 has been a thing to happen some months ago. While he has been the left centre for the Dolphins I'm thinking that the Roosters will use him as their full back after Teddy goes. They will have Toia right centre and Smith left centre as is.

While he has been the left centre for the Dolphins I'm thinking that the Roosters will use him as their full back after Teddy goes. They will have Toia right centre and Smith left centre as is.

I know they've been talking about it for a while but I thought they would now have to upgrade a number of their squad. On the open market White and Toia would get over a million a year. Tedesco is already on that and Walker would be looking at significantly more. Add Farnworth on over a million a year, are the rest of the squad going to be playing for a jar of vegemite a week?

We need centres to start 2027 our top 30 centres are not the greatest if you cannot defend and run through defenders you cannot play centre.. Like who are our best centres? A lot of come Nov 1st deals are for 2028

very good/capable first grade players in any position dont fall from trees .. i think this "you can pick a winger up from anywhere" attitude is a relic from the days where wingers were the blokes who hang around footballers.

Wingers in the modern game are more important than centres BUT elite centres potentially give you that missing piece.

Roosters just won with Toia/Smith but their wingers are elite in Tupou/Marky

The early set carries from your wingers are important and one dimensional Flano was onto this but they also need to be fast/great in the air/expert finishers ... We tick one maybe two boxes with out wingers. Marky Mark was big/fast/insane finisher and good in the air ... Crazy player not withstanding the errors in his game. Sami though is more complete and will really help us.


Your Wingers are crucial in getting you into the eight, your centres maybe lift you one or two positions.

I would rather have our backline for next year with say Marky Mark and Sami on the wings outside Suli type centres than have say Sloan/Tu on the wings outside Bostock/Herbie. Your halves/edge forwards can set up your wingers well enough.


Our 3/4 line next year is poor with really only Sami someone you could call above average ... Suli/Holmes are on the downward slide esp defensively, Tu has limits ... Would love to see Burton debut early at left centre ... Holmes given his shoulder may be best off playing Right Wing.

If we cannot change our 3/4 players over - i wouldnt hate seeing Sami (lw) Burton (lc) Suli (rc) Holmes (rw) ...

The club need to make a decision on Gutho and that could be just write off the money - will cost more if he plays than if he doesnt.

Gutho has been tried in the centers before and got toweled up, he doesn't have the lateral speed to match it with the elite centers, watching Suli is bad enough without copping it on both sides.

Wasn't intending to disrespect the position.. obv gun wingers are amazing (Mark N not a good example, hes a unicorn... a million dollar superstar who just won that side a finals series)...

But essentially failed centres and fullbacks coming through the grades are a pretty good chance to make it as wingers (thats 5 potential players who could filter down to end up in the 2 wing positions).. thats why the position is easier to fill (if we are actually looking and we werent while Flanno was coach), and they come on lesser coin.... Sami is like 350-400k and a gun... but some other examples:

• Val has struggled for years @ctr but is still a beast mode winger if we could afford to play him there..
• Billy Smith looks excellent on the wing.. has had defensive issues @ctr.. he totally might make it dont get me wrong he has heaps of skill... but another outside back that if he came here it would need to be playing @ ctr.
• Sloan has failed for years @ fullback, but on the wing this year anyway.. its taken him a few years... but he might just make it.. might.. but he certainly wont as a fullback or ctr.
• Fale has struggled in his opportunities @ctr, but as a big solid winger.. he has the attributes to succeed on the wing if he cant make it as a ctr..
• Burton and Heidke.. both could easily debut on the wing in 1st grade... easily handle the skillset and the aerial side.. its just a bit of a waste because like I said its been harder for us to find centres (or fullbacks) vs wingers.. someone like Toby Rumble for example could do the job also if its a pure winger... but couldnt play anywhere else.... and its why Val is still @ctr despite our urgency to move him earlier this year... he even came out and said he was moving to winger to focus on his skillset...

I just dont think good wingers are as easy to come by as you think (at least not for us)

As for Gutho, it would be odd to keep him all year on the extended bench and get no game time.. but thats what we're looking at.. the only way I can see him providing purpose is as Drinkwaters injury replacement... but id be rly nervous to play him there cause he would totally change the make up of the squad.. but someone has to be our injury cover, whos it going to be? Drinkwater gets injured in preseason, whos doing a year @ fullback?
