true. Some of the discourse around Kyle is so funny to me, he’s shite.

But the other 2 options to take his spot aren’t good enough either. People just want to complain about something obviously (it’s beyond the players lads)

Also, the people complaining about Fitzgibbon signing with canterbury, chill tf out. People are making out like we have lost the next Thurston

He isn’t half the player Reed, LKT or Ah Kee are

Hasn't this hit the headlines, 'Flanagan accused of nepotism'. Full disclosure here, I coached both my sons and both were talented. One perhaps, if things went his way could have had the opportunity to make 1sts but back in the day after he dislocated his kneecap followed by an ACL it was never to be.

So first hand , god I was tougher on them than any other player in my squads. Thank god I was never called upon to make that call to drop either because that would have been a heart wrenching decision.

Our strengths as a family was the ability to sit around the dinner table and discuss issues and to do so freely. Listening and communicating was very important.

The actual definition of nepotism is-
' When someone in authority ignores a more qualified person to hire or advance a family member into a position '.

So the question here is, has he? I personally don't believe so. Who has he overlooked?, who has he disadvantaged?

In my own personal experiences in coaching, and I never did this, was to blame an individual player for the woes of the team.

Coaching at any level is a tough gig, coaching in 1sts can be unforgiving but it should never get personal unless there is very strong evidence that supports such a view. Just my views.
You miss my point. It was about nepotism. The team has been disadvantaged not just because of 1 player who is playing out of position but reflects the team and club as a whole that it ever came to this.
Completely agree Jo, personally I think the nepotism part of this is a bunch of over dramatised rubbish stirred up by an absolute nupty named Tallis who's entire role with 360 is to stir shit for headlines. It also shits me when all this Fox opinion garbage is pushed as if it's gospel and you have to dig deep to even find the actual full quote, so here's the rest of it for anyone interested:

Flanagan said most halfbacks would have struggled over the last fortnight.

“In the last couple of weeks against the Dolphins and in the second half against Cronulla we’ve been steamrolled in the middle,” he said.

“We know where our problems are and we’re going to address them.

“As for Kyle, we’re comfortable with what he’s been doing.

“Yes, from a performance perspective he can play better. Without a doubt he can do better offensively but week in, week out he competes hard and defends well.”

Yes he couldve worded it better, particularly the line being spewed accross every headline, but for the most part he's not wrong. Kyle isn't some young creative playmaker, he works hard and relies on his effort and defense to have any impact. He simply isn't that 'skilled' as a half, but who else do we have? Ilias again? Glover? Sure I'd love to see him have a crack, but think it'll take a lot more then 2 weeks of being physically dominated to force another halves change.

To be fair so would Ilias and Glover so it's a moot point.
Exactly the point, people were screaming to drop illias for weeks, it's goes away when your winning and then rinse and repeat after a few losses. The fact is we knew our halves were average at best coming into this year, we know we need our fowards not to get steamrolled to win games, and that's exactly what's been happening the last couple weeks. This isn't new news, we simply don't have many options currently.

I have said before , for me we are not getting enough out of Holmes in the centre's , I would have him at fullback , Gutho doing ok but not quick enough anymore , Gutho to 7 , I'd keep Nick at centre , with Suli if we have to or Allan to his position and throw Suli on the wing for hit ups because that's all he does ....... Or give Ilias another chance at 7 ........
I am not sure whether it is the sheer disappointment of how the season is unfolding, or whether you are just wearing me down Illusion, but I am coming around to think that maybe it is time to move Holmes to fullback and Gutho into the haves.

o There is something about the 7 jersey.. whether its club/state/international, if you lose its the 7's fault.. even though the same critics will acknowledge the forwards getting rolled, or the multiple errors by the outside backs.. its why so many halfbacks get sacked well before they had a fair opportunity.. and here is the Titans buying one back lol.. the club that has 15 6's...

o If there is a crime, its that we werent hunting for a decent 7 until now, I think Flanno wanted to coast through to 2026 and maybe play Atkinson.. but that was an error.. but as for Kyle vs Ilias, im not sure what people are expecting.. atleast Kyle is saving tries.. I feel like NSW Cup who have been smashing it all year.. somehow the media has decided Ilias is the instigator.

o Fitzy, where has he been since SG finished? Would have been a stronger 6 than TPH.. but I figured he was leaving so they decided not to bother.. he has a Burton like boot, so I think those players are worth putting more time into... if they come off they come off good.. cant say he will have more opportunity at the dogs vs us, but we have LKT, Atkinson, Hammoud, Reed could play 6 if needed.. and if we keep Ah Kee, he looks the one.. but yeah the Dogs are drowning in halves talent also.

It's nepotism for your life. You seriously doubt that? Before his old man was appointed head coach, he wasn't even under consideration to be signed. Then his old man said he was signed to be a be a No.14 or something like that. Ever since he's been starting in the halves except when suspended for biting.

It's a tough gig but why they get the big money.

NSW Cup hasn't lost since Ilias went back. But I get what you are saying. Thing is, Kyle has gotten more than enough chances. How many shockers can he have before Flanno acknowledges he isn't one of the Dragons best? And how many more before he is dropped? He's gotta go! Whether Ilias is recalled to see what he can do with a decent halves partner or Gutho is moved to halfback or Glover is given a chance. I don't know what is the right but clearly what they are doing now isn't working. And it's been going on for long enough to see it's never going to work.

^ its partly this, Ilias isnt our medium or longterm solution.. and is ideally gone end of season which frees us up to source someone better (hopefully)

Regardless... I think Ilias will get a shot soon though... esp if we dont start winning.. the heat will be too much for Shane.... but Kyle will probably be here for a few years in some sort of role..

Wish we had a softer run home too, not ideal playing mostly top 8 sides for the run home

Id like us to at least be competitive and win 4/5 games, its not good for the young fellas to play in a side that’s lost 6 in a row or getting beat by 30 every other week

Keep LKT in first grade is the most important thing for our halves situation.

I think playing in our Reggie’s side doesn’t help him development wise as they are so dominant and he has so much time to ball play it’s not really hardening to play at that level for him

NRL players close gaps and chase hard from the inside so he has to make a decision be it run or pass much earlier than he has been in cup

It would be interesting if Kyle picked up an injury how Ilias or Glover would combine in first grade with LKT

Kyle will be around as long as his Dad is and not a day longer.

Glover & LKT did do most of the season together in cup, I thought they were decent at that level, but really anyone should look good in that squad.. with a dirty big pack doing the business.. and Cody chiming in..

First grade rarely has that luxury.. its why I think fans/media obsess a bit too much about whos playing 7.. it legit is a 17man game, and without Egan/Ryan/Sua in particular... I just dont think we can go with sides that are 'on'.

What I like about Glover is he seems far more energetic/quicker than Kyle or Ilias... thats one thing someone like Sandon Smith could have bought to us.. or a Sexton.. neither is amazing but atleast they are a running threat.. compared to Kyle/Ilias.

It's early in the week in a bye week so I think it's ok to talk about this in this thread. After all, even News Ltd is talking about it and we know about Flanno's excellent relationship with them.

I was a victim of nepotism both in my professional career and coaching career and my definition of nepotism is not obviously the same as others and that is democracy at work, we all have different opinions and are free to air them respectfully.

I think the whole squad is a victim of nepotism and that is playing a role in the performances they are dishing up. Even Kyle himself. He might be good in the role the coach said he was recruited for.

If Kyle picked up an injury..... This is what we have come to. Other than injury or suspension for biting someone, that is the only chance of Kyle not being in the halves.

I've stayed away from this thing until now because I was undecided about which was less ordinary, KF or Ilias. Until last week Fox ran a story making excuses for Kyle before his latest shocker. Then 2 days ago the well known drunk suffering from severe St. Georgephobia made excuses for KF and talked about "try involvements". WTF is that? Every player on the field in both teams is somehow "involved" in a try. Then today Brent Read says, KF has "held his gloves up". What? Again, WTF does that mean? Does he mean "played well"? If so, why not say that?
