Round 2 v South Sydney Rabbitohs - Sat 3pm

Our halves need to take the line on a bit ........ Like to know what their running metres were ? ..........
I know what their try assists and line break assists were. 0 and 0 between the two. I think Flanno is a good coach but his dogged determination to have Kytle play first grade is going to be his downfall.

Agree but think the other guy was less effective , Kyle's energy level is better than most at the moment , Illias has done nothing in 2 games don't even know if he can be Lawrie in a race , as I have seen him do nothing ....... Seems very tentative ........

Yesterday showed me two glaring issues as an old retired coach. 1. 2 soft online tries through the middle one in each half shows we didn't learn our lesson from their hookers 1st try. 2. More importantly we lacked a game manager/ organiser when we were up by 12 points. Of course any new halves pairing will take time to gel but we had sufficient experience out there with Cook, Gutho and Holmes to have directed the plays. A disappointing loss at home again. On the plus side there is plenty of time to fix theses issues as we have 25 rounds to go.

Illias is playing with that injury in the back of his mind. I'm not so sure he is the game manager we are after, but early days.

I was as pissed as anyone yesterday but I saw one comment saying it's better they are playing like this now rather than at the end of the season as was the case last year. Flanno has the opportunity to fix it. Is he good enough? But isn't it time he made some serious changes given how well the NSW Cup team is playing?

Yes with all their experience and game management we needed that trio to ice it for us. Cook , specially disappointing in clutch moments. Pissweak out of dummy half too. His best looks well behind him.

Cook yesterday 6 runs - 71m and most of those were as a centre
Previous week against the Dogs 4 runs - 27m

My old coaches eyes are telling me this is as a result of the lack of opportunities being created by our lack of our consistent go forward and slow play the balls.

Compare our first two season propers with what we produced for a majority of the CS. We were clinical in just about every aspect. Flanno needs to have us imitating that process.

I agree with your old coaches eye. Cook is looking for opportunities that haven't worked out yet but will. But is Liddle our best hooker and Cook should be his deputy?

There may be a time before this season is lost for some changes. I'm not so sure now is that time.

You are right. At least Illias kicks. Not very well but he's the only one who does it. Kyle 3/10. The catching, taking two steps, stopping, pivoting and passing is not enough. Not even close. And to make matters worse, LKT continues to get better in reserve grade. We are talking about someone who kicks, has playmaking ability, tackles strongly and can break tackles. I know Kyle tries hard and gives 100% but he doesn't have the talent to play first grade. He can't do any of those things. I know he takes on the line but what's the use when he can't break a tackle?

Of course our halves cost us the game. Between them they should of had at least a few line break assists and try assists rather than 0 and 0.

But you can relax. I'm not saying Kyle should be dropped. I'm saying Kyle or Illias has to be dropped to make way for LKT.
No my point is that giving Kyle and Illias equal marks is disingenuous, im not saying he was great im saying he did a lot more good things then Illias both defensively and running the ball, 10 runs 69m good support play that netted him 2 tries compared to Lachies 4 for 25 (and 2 of those were him getting caught with the ball). But aside from that my point is that we didnt lose the game because of them, we lost because of lazy effort plays and the leaders we paid big money for to take the pressure off our halves didnt stand up when we needed them to. I said from the pre-season they get 6-8 weeks minimum together in my books.

I agree to an extent and as I said Lachy needs to get his confidence up and get his running game back as well, but they arent there to be creative halves we recruited experience backline leaders (and paid big money) to do so and for the most part our attacking structures looks a shit load better on both sides of the field then years of Benny ball, but our effort plays and mistakes are absolute rubbish.

My main points exactly those 2 sloppy tries were ridiculous and in the last 10min in particular the decision making was woeful, 6min to go 20m out and were chosing to chip midfield instead of take the field goal? Even with Koloamatagngi slowing down play and giving plenty of time to setup wheres Val/Cookie/Gutho getting them in position, Val makes that play every day at origin level but we switched off. Not to mention 1 of those 3 missed conversions and we scrap the win. Cookie running on the last with a few min to go, or grubbering into touch - these are the players we paid the big money for for these moments and thats why it was so dissapointing.
26m 6 runs from Fox stats
I have no idea why you keep quoting these rubbish fox stats but I'll keep linking the offical that literally every respectable site uses: Round 2 - Dragons vs Rabbits

Now that I've had my rant after re-watching this morning onto my positives for the week:
  • Hamish - A shining light, does his job and does it well looks even more impressive in first grade then reserves.
  • Toby & JDB - 60min each, 170m and 140m respectively, consistent big hard carries. Add in a Klemmer and 1 other and we look even stronger
  • Sloan - 22 carries for 220m when was the last time we saw that from him. Loved him taking those hard fast carries and some oustanding jumping takes, loved when he sweeped in attack to the left (more of that please) and in general our attack looked so much more dangerous on the right with him there rather than Mat.
  • CT - Big hard carries 18 runs, 240m. Val makes anyone outside him look good in attack but he took on a lot of hard yardage partcilularly with Suli struggling as well. Also wtf was that step and offload to Kyle to score, watching that live was beautiful.
  • Gutho - Other then that very sloppy misread that cost a try was trying his arse off and did what we paid big money for in attack, was involved in everything good that was happenning throughout the game and jeez he made some nice tackle busts/line breaks out of hard yardage. Aside from all that I think if you asked him his biggest take away will be that defensive mistake and lack of direction in the end so hope he stands up.

Can’t believe we lost. Thirty minutes left and they tried to defend a lead. Twelve points ahead is not enough in modern football. It was hot, not ideal for football, but they should have won easily….

NQ is also in a deep hole but their coach isn't messing around. Making changes and dropping big names. We will soon see which coach is right.

Apart from Klemmer I don't think he will make big changes ......... The young 5/8 in sorry can't think of his name , I would bring him into the side with Kyle at 7 or move Sloan to fullback Gutho to 5/8 .......

And that's exactly what happened, tried to defend a 12 point lead and fell short by 1

The measure of any coach is how he reacts to a couple of losses in a row and of course other in house issues. Will be interesting to see if an axe is produced and secondly how sharp that axe is, time will tell

King-Togia. I think he's still only 19 but played very well in Cup yesterday.
