We have 2 very tough games in Fins/Sharks next (both at home though).. but if we arent 'competitive' this weekend (for a 2nd week in a row) I think Deano will start experimenting.. the biggest one is Reed, rly need to see him play a game of cup though.. and the ctr situation yeah I dunno what the answer is.. but if there is something on his mind with guys like Atkinson.. better to do it this year than next...

Also starting to get to that stage where kids like Hutcho, Webster, Reed, Nick.. should be getting a game or 2 just as a taster... Heidke maybe if he can put 3-4 games together and show hes back.. which obviously is a big 'if' at this stage.

I think Atko to ctr is clearly an itch they want to scratch.. given that we are chasing 6's and we also have Reed and LKT. I rly do think Atkinson would be a lot better after a pre-season training @ctr though if thats what they want.. but we are where we are.

Atko to fullback is something I would love to see just out of my own curiosity.. but its not something we would do I feel as it doesnt really solve anything longterm for us.. other than if Atko was the fullback cover for Drinkwater in 2027.. if Gutho was injured tomorrow though.. maybe..

Fale hasnt played a lot of footy but absolutely in the equation.. im not sure hes first grade ready defensively @ctr, but someones gotta play there.. probably we cant afford not to play Suli either.. unless they really want him out for whatever reason.

But I doubt that will happen. The Dolphins have speed to burn and they will, if on song, put 50 on us . They beat an in form Cowboys team then have had a bye, surely their 7 returns against us.

They sit 5th on the ladder and have openly stated they want a top 4 finish, they aren't going to take it easy on us.

Tough is an understatement, both the Sharks and Dolphins are chasing a top 4 finish, both will put 50 on us

I think @home we will be OK.. ive noticed in other games this year the intensity from good teams dies out in the game at some point.. Top4 teams wont be taking us too seriously either.. get 20pts in front and try to remain uninjured..

Only thing im worried about is I thought we were a good chance against the Titans.. I rly wanted that win to create positivity to finish the season.. but now the spoon is locked already with 6 rounds to go.. do we subconsciously drop 10% or 20% of our forward intensity? If we do.. then yes 50 is on the cards!

We should definitely try the suli/holmes ctr & wing combo. If it shows good signs then we could theoretically lock that side up for the pre-season. On paper it has plenty of potential but need to see it in reality. We know Sami will be one wing, then we would need to figure out the centre issue.

IF we're legitimately going to try Gutho at ctr then do it now while these games are meaningless, rather than waste it on next year & risk losses. I also want to see some fun sloan attack from fullback, season is ending so might as well enjoy it. I'd like to see Atko with another attacking threat in the halves, I also want to see LKT fight for a potential 1st grade spot. I want to see some competitiveness from him, frame it as an audition for pre-season in the halves.

Its also a mindset issue. The young forwards especially are busting their guts out no doubt about that to my eye but the backs just don't have the necessary speed and ability to take advantage of that.

I do agree with your summation that perhaps once the game is safely won you will see those coaches giving more time to their bench players to have them battle hardened and reduce the risk of injury to their star players for when the real competition begins in September.

3 converted tries plus 2 points with 20 to go should be the target for the Dolphins and Sharks. The size of the loss will eventually depend on our ability to stay in the fight even when we know the game is lost.

Yes agree move Gutherson now. I did note though he appears to be carrying a knee injury of some sort against the Titans or were my ageing eyes deceiving me?
