Round 25 vs South Sydney

Certainly understand that mate, but he's had other head knocks this year I think as well, I wouldnt be risking his career at such a young age. Even Flanno said he's probably played longer than what he should have in the NRL this year.
Just like lots of young players, they can't wait to play the game but in the case of young Stewart, best in my opinion that he has a long rest from playing to make sure his head corrects itself from all of the internal bruising to the brain etc. He will have a long season next year so it should be something for him to look forward to and get the right motivation and build up his body to take more work seeing that JDB won't be around to assist. Same with the others who have had the knocks to the head and other injuries.

Next year I feel that the squad will all be better for it after this year. Some new faces is what I am hoping we get to really augment what we have already like the Couchman boys, Egan, and those that have had experience in the top grade. There is that added pressure starting off the career in firsts but after a few months of it the young guys will be right. Unfortunately while his heart is there, young Buchanan just isn't big enough to break tackles and set up his winger. Same for his defence.

Not too concerned how the results end up in the last two games. Wins I'd like for sure but given the circumstances of our drop in quality of our manpower, close losses I can wear but not big losses to end the year.

Perfect storm of problems:
  1. Slow backline
  2. Crap halves. Par for the course for Kyle but LKT was really bad tonight.
  3. Lack of creativity in the forwards. Just one out running.
  4. Yet more ridiculous calls against us. That forward pass for the Johnston try and the lack of a sin binning early in the second half.
Solutions:
  1. Bite the bullet and recall Sloan despite his defensive frailties.
  2. No solution this year. Flanno set it up just how he wants it.
  3. JDB and Stewart in, Cook back to hooker, Liddle playing fewer (but still significant) minutes.
  4. Not sure a solution exists. Keep complaining. Demand refs gets sacked.

It is hard to complain when you get easily beaten.

But once again the refereeing.

Have we ever got the rub of the green when Sutton is the ref ?

The standout had to be when Kyle tackled the player without the ball because he dropped the up and under.

Then there was the forward pass that the commentators called flat—-and the sin bin no call because it was an “accident”.

Souths attacked LKT in the centres and his defence was again not good.

Kyle did not play well : his kicking game is too predictable and he never runs the ball on the last.

Warren Smith (surprisingly) and Ennis both called it forward without doubt. Ennis was actually quite vocal about how badly forward it was. The eggs on 9 were too busy all game having a wankoff over AJ and Souths, hoping he’d score a truckload last night

We always seem to be a lost cause in the NRL. Media and others just like to rub salt into our wounds at every opportunity. Even when we win it is not given the accreditation it deserves. Not only is it soul destroying for us fans but the coaches and players must feel emptiness in the guts when we cop all the negatives.

The continuing drama we have of going for some good players and fail to secure them weighs heavily on our minds as well as the recruitment staff. Players preferring to stay with their current clubs even though being able to play first grade, and offered more money and exposure would come their way but still reject us.

So, so frustrating to say the least.

I'm not privy to negotiations but I would guess a lot of it is players like Hiroti demanding overs and the club refusing. I can understand paying overs for someone like Tino but not for Hiroti who may or may not be first grade standard. And has there been any confirmation the Dragons actually tried to recruit him? I find it very hard to believe a reserve for a team going downhill rather quickly would reject a chance to play first grade even if he thinks that team isn't on the rise.

I think someone did a survey on player transfer Dave a little while ago, and the primary motivator was money and the manager getting on with the club. I do agree in not paying overs for players at the detriment of our future, but my belief is home growing marquee players, much in the way the Panthers have done it, how many penrith juniors do they have in their squad, and still producing quality players through their pathways.

This exactly Justa. I'm thinking that DA is reviewing everybody we currently have on board, in all grades being - their good and bad points, their contract status, their ages, their experiences, their development, their strengths and weaknesses, their attitudes, their desire to want to stay at the Dragons for a good period of their league life if given a fair crack and opportunities, etc. DA needs to look at the immediate future of how to obtain success with what we have and where we are lacking and focus on who can fill these spots in the short term with who we have and if nobody can fill in those gaps from within, then source others that have much better standards of abilities to benefit the squad.

Long term to do as Penrith have been doing and bide our time for the fruit to mature and become much, much better as players and become household names.

I can see that this will be a longish sort of process for DA in consultation with Flanno and the other coaches.

So far we have Atkinson and Kerr coming to us next year and we have Holmes and Suli back from their respective injuries, plus the forwards Couchman x 2, Egan, Stewart. With these players resuming and pace becomes more a reality than a wish, then all we might need is for consistency and resilience in most to all of our games.

I would love to see a better fullback than Gutho for us next year and beyond. He is getting slower but still has stamina. We need both stamina and speed to attack and defend. His attempt to stop Host from scoring the first try in last Thursday nights game was ineffective because of his now slowness to accelerate.

I recall a poster on here suggesting that the reason the Rorters succeed is because they basically pay overs for lower grade players. If true, I read that to mean they trial and pick the most promising and discard the rest. Costy but wouldn’t put it past Uncle Nick!
