Round 27 - V Eels Sunday 6th September

When all is said and done, Blake Lawrie has done very well. No footwork, no passing, no offload and not very big for a prop. But played 170 first grade games. Good luck to him with whatever he does from next Monday.
No way should he have been resigned on the sort of money he was on, let alone the length of his extension. So yeah he's done really well and I don't see too many clubs lining up to get him.

Season started with the head coach leaving one of the most talented young players in the squad off the plane to Vegas in favour of jouneymen he had no interest in re-signing. It makes no sense to me. Like it was a personal vendetta which should not be on the agenda for a head coach of a professional organisation! Then upon arrival in Vegas, he dismissed the teams chances of winning the competition. Which just seemed honest to me but obviously a head coach shouldn't just blurt it out publicly.

Then when it came to the game itself, I remember at least 2 of those bizarre game costing penalties against us.

I'm actually glad it's over after today.
  • Dragons by 8
  • FTS - Dylan Egan
  • MoM - Toby Couchman
It will be the last time we see Lawrie, Sloan, Feagai in the team. Su'A is also gone and I've always thought he was overrated. I'd say Egan is better right now, let alone after another off season. I hope it's the last time we see Kyle, Atko and Suli as well. As for Gutho, I think he's ok but with Drinkwater on the way, there is no place in the NRL team for Gutho. He is definitely not a centre!

My brother who follows the Dragons with a passion told me ages ago and even confirmed it today that when Shane Flanagan was the head coach of the Sharks, he said that he hated the Dragons. The assistant coach and the players he signed have contributed to sabotaging the club. He got rid of Volkman and Ramsey. Take what I have written with a grain of salt. Maybe I am just a Conspiracist?

Thank goodness the Board took away Flanno from being the recruitment guy and hired Daniel Anderson.

So another final game awaits the club that has allowed yet another disastrous year to unfold. We all knew it was over after 6 rounds, what a complete and utter disgrace. Some may say we have had the best year for recruiting and we probably have, but alas we are still yet to achieve anything. I think in many ways if success is not achieved next year, the Dragons will be beyond repairable, the fact is if the competition was tiered we would be consistently in the lower tier, and deserved to be there. The Dragons have treated their loyal fans with contempt in the way they have allowed the organisation to be run by incompetent fools that have dismantled the club to the core. Lets hope we are not saying our season is over by round 6 again next year.

Very good assessment Justa. I recall you predicting a poor season after Round 6. This is the worst season we have had as a Joint Venture. Coming last when our hope this time last year that we might be better was further from the truth. I am hoping that next year we will be better but by how much is more of a concern to me. Even though we have signed some decent players through the help of Daniel Anderson, it doesn't mean it translate to us being a force. Deano hasn't proven anything at all so far and if you took that name out and thought we still had Flanno, it feels like he is still here picking the same team - especially Kyle. Ugh!!

Last game of the season, we have the spoon, nothing to play for.

So Dean decides to keep playing the deadwood that have been shit all year and are either leaving or aren't gonna get a look in next season and not give our youngsters a shot.

Makes you wonder
I hope it's not a coach being "a good bloke" and giving departing players one last go around. That would be very unprofessional. If being "a good bloke" got or helped get the re-signing of the awesome foursome forwards over the line, great. Now it's time to stop being friends with the players and start being a professional coach. If he can't be a hard-nosed pro head coach without losing the dressing shed, he has no business being a head coach.

There are several players in that side Dave that should never see NRL again unless we have multiple injuries.
