I think they need 400 players to operate a league, on top of big name players like Haas on elite money, and lesser players like Zac Lomax who will be paid more than an NRL salary cap team can match.

Looks like it will be a hybrid of league and union, with megabucks backing by the Saudis.

it is likely to go ahead for at least a season.

The NRL has threatened ten year bans—-but would this stand up in court ?

Not sure they would want any dragons though…

Our dad’s army players like Cooky and Gutho might not get an offer…

Please take the following:
  • Blocka
  • Leilua
  • Sloan
  • Gutho
Holmes to fullback, Buchanan centre. The other 3 are going to play in reserve grade for most or all of the season.

If this thing ever gets off the ground to be profitable, which is doubtful, they won't be able to afford to pay overs to everyone. Salaries are going to have to come back down to earth. Imagine being one of the best Rugby props and getting 1mil a season while Haas is getting 3mil.

They are going to get around the bans by signing up with Japanese or European rugby for a few months and then onto R360, if it ever gets off the ground.
You could be right Morgan. The thing is though the Managers of these players have been told that if they get involved with R360 negotiations, they will cop 10 year bans as well. So the players will need to hire Solicitors or others who can do the negotiations on their behalf.

Managers will cut a deal with rugby in Japan or Europe then they will have to do as you say about hiring someone else to take care of R360. Provided it goes ahead. I have my doubts personally.

Zack’s manager, obviously worried about the ten year bans, has reportedly pulled out of negotiations. So he will play French rugby but still join R360. He probably is already being paid. He could still play in the NRL as there is no proof he has signed….

‘Withdrawing’ from negotiations.Lomaz has already signed….Papenhuyzen and Lomax were released by their clubs, who did not really fight to keep them. But what choice did they have ? At this stage there is no proof anyone has signed. It is a clandestine operation. Like Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket back in the seventies. Everyone signed because you did not really get paid back then. But no one admitted signing. Then we lost the ashes 5-1 as not all the English players signed.

So Melbourne released Papenhuyzen and big Nelson. So we all assume they are going to rugby. They probably are. But are they patsies because Bellyache lost two straight grand finals…..

Certainly didn't put up any kind of fight to keep them. Papenhuyzen hasn't been anywhere near as good since his injury setbacks a couple of years ago.

Did you say this before news came out that Lomax is apparently looking to join a European team on a short-term deal as some kind of injury cover? Something clubs are apparently allowed under the rules in the event of a long term injury.

I stated that before news came out that is exactly what Zac Lomax is doing, even if he or his management haven't admitted it yet. Probably never will but it's perfectly obvious. I hope the NRL moves to close down that loophole soon. You simply can't have Australian clubs spend big money on grassroots only have these oil-rich clowns swoop in to steal the best talent.

But I still have doubts it will ever get off the ground. At least not last more than 1 season.

It will go ahead. The European Super League failed not because of funding but because of a public backlash especially in England where fans thought they were highjacking their game.

The ten year bans will probably not hold up in court. The NRL cites winning the JDL case—-but a player will have to fight the NRL in court and it could take several years.

Even if it collapsed I would be surprised if players have not already been given sign on fees.

Did you get some new info about it? I think in an Australian court, the bans will hold up. Money talks. They will side with the Australian organisation over a Saudi one which hasn't expressed any desire at all to fund grassroots.

I thought JDB would win his case but he lost. Maybe the bans will hold up, maybe they won’t. But it will be a lengthy process to overturn them in court.

The thing that shocked me about the JDB was that it came down to the whim of the (fuking #####) woman judge. She stated the NRL has a right to protect its brand. Ok so...... the individual has no right to being innocent until proven guilty?

It makes me think the 10 year bans will hold until they appeal and it goes to higher courts which will take years to be concluded. And cost the banned players boatloads of money.

So what does Lomax do now R360 has been postponed ? He may already be on the payroll. But would an NRL club take him as there is no proof he has signed anything. I doubt Saints would be interested. I hear he wants to do some boxing.

They are talking about rugby in France.
